I expect it to be pretty good for what it is. Most of you probably expected it to be better than dbe without no where near the same amount of money.
I expect it to convey the spirit of dragonball pretty well. So slightly better effect and costume wise than that video of Gohan fighting 18 and 17 in real life, but kinda in the same vain. True to the show.

The interview was really good and a painted a better picture of what was going on behind the scenes. Train wreck or not I still want to see the final product after seven months of waiting.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Derek,
Your interview was well thought out but I was definitely disappointed that you did not get more into the legalities of this project with these guys. Oh well. Fluff pieces make good reads too. But it is absolutely ridiculous that the "first time they saw the armor was on location." Even if that's true, that's just complete amateurish planning and completely idiotic but once again...oh well. Sigh.

I'm very much looking forward to this. I'm not expecting Hollywood, but I'm expecting a good piece of Dragonball Z fan material - far better than any other fan-films out there at least.

Yeah, we know that. What I can't wrap my head around is that its nearly 2013 and "Amateurs" can advertise their services in conjunction with a well-established property and profit from it, either monetarily or through exposure, and get away with it. The real problem is this: There are much more qualified professionals who would have interest in making a $15,000+ budget DragonBall fanfilm and would execute it much more professionally and in a greater quality if given the opportunity. K&K's opportunity was achieved through illegal and immoral means and for that, they do not deserve to be lauded for "omg saving DBZ from DB:E". At the end of the day...these guys are essentially Criminals. And that may be hard for some of the people on this forum, and within this fanbase, to swallow because of their desire to see a project of this nature. But the fact of the matter is that even if K&K make an incredible video that changes DragonBall forever (promotional material thus far says otherwise), it will not change the means in which they obtained this opportunity and, once again I state, their complete and utter misuse of an essential tool for artists and independent filmmakers.
Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
I agree but I think that if he brought that the up the interview would be over. Those guys are very stingy about it. I'm curious what Funimation or Toei will do once the trailer's online. It would be pretty funny if they have to take it down the same week they posted it.Pafupafu wrote:DerekPadula wrote:My interview with the Saiyan Saga creators is now live

I completely agree. It's just leeching of a famous property. If they really wanted to make a name for themselves they would have made a trailer for a original project.Pafupafu wrote: Yeah, we know that. Looks like it's now up. About to watch it myself.

EDIT: Much better than Evolution, no doubt. Still not worth it, though. How much was this, again?

Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
I liked it. I think Krillin, Vegeta, Nappa and Tien were some of the better portrayed characters. Goku's kaioken was pretty intense too.
Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
I'm SO glad I didn't donate any money to this and I feel sorry for anyone who did. Really disappointed with this, and what the hell was up with the VFX, terrible. This is not close to being worth the amount of money donated towards it and I'm sure these guys pocketed a decent amount at the end of this.

Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
What a joke. Bad acting and even worse special effects.
-Raditz delivery was bad and even his blood looked very fake. Even with their budget they should have gotten the blood right.
-Those random humans looking up were obviously not actors.
-The effects weren't special. Chaotzu as well as every flying character looks like a bad blue screen effect.
-Inconsistent: using dub names like Special Beam Cannon and Japanese names like Kienzan.
-Why does Chiaotzu sound like a middle aged woman?
-When Piccolo hits Nappa at 2:15 the punch makes a very strange sound effect, like spoon hitting a tea cup?
-Kuririn's cry out for Goku; another case of bad acting

Also, I love how the special effects were still better than Evolution.

That was quite amazing. Over 9000 times better than Dragon Ball Evolution.
My only complaint; Piccolo looks so childish and gross.

... That was awful.
If anything, it's a shining example of why a live-action adaptation being "as close in appearance to the manga" doesn't automatically mean "good."

Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
Nappa didn't feel like Nappa. At all. And I'm not just talking about the 3 main details that separate him from the original design.
Did they photoshop a photo of Chaozu into the frame with Tenshinhan? And why is Tenshinhan's 3rd eye always open and...cheap-looking?
Was the guy that played Kuririn THAT opposed to shaving his head, that they let it look that awkward in the end? Also, "kienzEn"? Really? Come on.
Armors look just as bad as expected.
Goku is clearly not actually doing a Kamehame-ha, but focused on steadily holding his hands in front of himself for the post-editing.
Though, it does show potential and did have some good moments. With a bigger budget and actors, they could pull something off.
EDIT: Oh, wow! The one-handed Kiko-ho...his other arm is still totally there...

Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
That was more Dragon Ball-like then Evolution. But, it seems weird that they took donations. Plus, it was weird hearing some mix of terms. An almost correctly pronounced Kienzan with, a Tri-Beam, and a Kayo-ken. Plus, the acting leaves a lot to be desired. The only ones who seemed to have any grasp on acting were Goku and the News Reporter-lady. I don't think all of them are awful at acting, it just seems like they're trying to imitate the animé voices and look too much and it's making it seem unnatural. I second ChahikoDBZ's comment on Piccolo.

Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
Aside from some pronunciation issues, I really enjoyed it! It's ridiculous how much effort and dedication went into that project. It was essentially no more than two brothers with a dream, and I can't help but be impressed by what they did. Nobody's first film, book, composition, or any work of art, is ever perfect, and I applaud them.
Since it was basically me explaining how I did it, I removed it from the interview, as it would have taken the attention away from their work.
For the record, they did bring up the legality issues with me at the end of the interview, but only in regard to how I was able to get legal approval for my book. They want to contact FUNimation and try to have it approved as well. Get it into conventions across the United States, and so on, along with making sure it won't be taken down. But their logic was that it's better to put it up first and share it with the world before making contact, just in case it's brought down.Pafupafu wrote: Your interview was well thought out but I was definitely disappointed that you did not get more into the legalities of this project with these guys.

Re: Dragonball Z: Saiyan Saga - Help make this happen!
That was a neat thing to watch. It doesn't change Dragonball forever or anything, but hopefully it serves the purpose of showing the potential for a big Hollywood DBZ movie. I'd do some things differently, but if this were the basis for a movie I'd grab it on Blu-ray or something. That said, the changes I would like wouldn't generate enough money or viewers for it to show up in an American DBZ film.
My personal interpretation would look more like Enslaved: Odyssey to the West with a bit more of the lightheartedness Dragonball is known for in the original version and characters inspired from Dragonball instead of the original JttW. It probably wouldn't make too many people happy, but I'd watch the crap out of it!

Because it was (supposedly) gonna be done in post. I guess they probably forgot. Like they forgot that he's only supposed to have one arm, for the one-handed Kiko-ho lolJord wrote:I seem to recall reading that they painted his 3rd eye (as in make up),Rukura wrote: And why is Tenshinhan's 3rd eye always open and...cheap-looking?

Yeah, that sounds nice and legal. I'm sure Funimation will like that method and instantly approve now.DerekPadula wrote: They want to contact FUNimation and try to have it approved as well.
