His voice in Kai is far more natural. Suzuoki is good but I can't pick him out of a line up.

16 might be still too flat but the voice is more expressive now, and a robot wouldn't have emotions so it feels fitting.

I think Sabat's Reacoom has gotten dumber over the years.

One of the other downsides with Sabat's Reacoom is his previous va really personalized the role and made it his own. When that happens, a follow-up is hard to follow. And he's played by Megatron, which makes it more awesome!

A follow up is hard to follow? Who's following whom? Your post confuses me. Reacoom was played by Megatron?

David Kaye's Recoome isn't any better than Chris Sabat's.

We just went from "Bad Stallone Impression" to "DUHR HUHR".

He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

To be honest I'd rather the bad Stallone impression. I too think Sabat's Recoome has been sounding more special ed these days. Also, Recoome's Ocean voice is probably the ONLY Ocean voice I like.

I found him to be far better than Sabat.

Like I said, he personalized the role. I found that Lalaina Lindjberg's Bulma was also personalized.

Yeah the Japanese version existed, but I don't think the directors used that as reference at all, so personalizing the role wasn't that big of a deal, but I do agree that making a role your own is the best way to go. Case in point, Henry Cavill's Superman as opposed to Routh's Superman.

Wow, I'm surprised! They turned this into a well-designed, thought-out product. Like the Dragon Box of edited DBZ. lol

Still, I have to wonder...why this, and not a Dragon Box release of Dragon Ball? I wonder if they expect this to sell so well that it'll help them fund a DB DBox....

It's not that simple. They can't just wave their fingers and release the Dragon Boxes. This is much more in their control.

I guess Kaye made a better Recoome than Sabat, but that's not saying much. I'd like to hear the character with a more natural Sabat voice, but I guess that'll never happen, because then his voices would run into each other more than they already do. I swear, there was a moment in Kai where Yamcha started talking off-screen and I thought it was Piccolo due to the voice.
"Those transformations insane,
They wanna turn up hours late and steal the show from the pros who had to die for the name." - Yamcha (DBWTF: Z-Rap 3)

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

Really? I've never once thought that. As easy as it is to pick out who he voices, Piccolo is at least an octave deeper than Yamcha.

http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827 ... 8567/4/0/0 - Rightstuff listing

According to rightstuff this set will be released in August and include Movies 1-3, which begs the question what source will they use for the Movies?
For $59.99 it's not a bad release and I may just get it for nostalgia.

I love Drummond's Vegeta in that scene. A bit on the nose, but so sharp and arrogant sounding.

Call me paranoid, but has no one else found it interesting that the product description never mentions Shuki Levy's replacement score? I'm not sure Funimation owns that music. Could we be getting a replacement for the replacement score?
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Man, say what you will about the quality of this dub but Drummond's Vegeta makes this worth the price of Admission alone. His performance always blows Sabat's out of the water, even if the writing is often less than refined.

Good point, I never noticed that. Saban should own the music but I think it shouldn't be too hard for Funimation to do a deal with them just for this release. That said, what replacement music would they use? Maybe Johnson or some different placements of Kikuchi tracks?

That would be a major nostalgia killer.

But surely if it's called the "rock the dragon" edition that means they're using the theme song which I assume was also owned by Saban right?

If they can get the theme song why can't they get the score?
