I, personally, think that this special looks absolutely fucking terrible, BUT!!!!!!!!!!

I checked out some of the artist's other work, including Dragon Ball and non-Dragon Ball related stuff, and most of it is actually quite good. I don't know what went wrong. :/

Quite possibly the work load involved. Individual pictures with no deadline can be worked on at lesiure. Multiple pages with multiple panels with a set deadline.... not so much. So they could be rushing and doing less revision/touch-up on the images than is normal.

I doubt it. The artists of the specials aren't like Gogeta Jr. Most, if not all, were contacted a long time ago to do the specials. They had plenty of time.

So, I don't believe its a matter of time. Its just a matter of art and drawing style like it has already been mentioned here. This artist can draw in other styles, including Toriyama's and make a decent job out of it. He just chose this style for the special. Which is why I didn't really agree with what has been said here about the special being absolutely bad art. It has some mistakes but the main thing about it that makes people don't like it is just the art style.

I actually like Piccolo getting some awesome screentime. It's not often he outlasts the Saiyans.
Doesn't change the fact that by now I'd really like to get back to, you know, the actual Multiverse tournament.

Better this Special than no DBM at all. The point of the Specials is to give S&G time to relax/catch-up with the page count/etc. So it's either filler material made by other people, or no material, or less frequent updates in general. I think a couple weeks of filler in exchange for multiple pages a week, is better than no filler and several weeks of nothing, or only one page a week.

Isn't this the longest special, though? Come June 1st it'll have been a month since it's title page was put up and like, June 4th when the first actual page was put up.

I don't think anyone's doubting the necessity or reason for having these filler chapters... I think most people just wish they were even halfway as enjoyable to read as the main story.

You know, Salagir is actually writing these, I'm pretty sure, or he's co-writing them, but even so, they suck even with one of the main guys writing them.

Really? I was under the impression he just gave the rough ideas for the specials rather than narrating them for the artist on a page-by-page basis. I can't imagine him telling the artist, "okay, just use up all 10 of your pages showing <villain> killing all the heroes in as brutal and drawn-out a fashion as possible. That'll do."

I guess you would be right, but if the people who were told to make the specials wrote it, shouldn't the story be at least looked over for some quality check?

If there was any sense of a 'noble death' to these sidecomics I would like them a lot more.

Like in GoW3, the gods are powerful and dangerous. Even when beaten, broken and humiliated, they can still kill your ass if you fuck up. These sidestories might as well be some guy smashing eggs with a hammer.

Part of that is Dragonball's fuckup with power levels (stated or unstated, it's a problem in original DB too), and Piccolo here is trying to buck the trend, but still. Meh, for different reasons than other people's mehs.

It's just that there's so much more that could be said in these specials beyond what we already know happened. Outside of the weird shift in tone when the good guys get slaughtered, the entire thing feels like a waste since we're not seeing the whole picture. We already know the bad guy wins. So why make the entire special nothing but that? Especially when so many universes have the same general premise that the bad guy wins. What's going to happen with the Super Buu special? Or Fat Buu? Or Freeza?

It makes me worry about the Universe 13 special (one I've been looking forward to) because there you have a hell of a lot of material, major changes spanning from the beginning all the way to post-Freeza. But part of me thinks we might just get 20+ pages of Goku killing everybody.

Yeah, I really hope they don't mess up Universe Buu's story, then again its probably not that hard, switch the target from Gohan to Goku and that is probably what let him win, that or Vegito didn't put up the anti-absorbing barrier when he got swallowed.
