I don't think Japan cares for the F&F movies that much but Detective Conan could be #1 at the box office though. I think the hype that this movie is having could make this movie pretty huge in my opinion.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Fast & Furious 6 made about $20 million in Japan, about two thirds of what Battle of Gods did and the new one will surely make more but whether F will be more successful than Battle of Gods is hard to say.
The last movie had the advantage of being the first movie in 17 years and the first by Toriyama so it's not as special this time around. Though this one does have 3D so has the advantage of more expensive tickets.
I really don't know how the hype compares. I'd guess that it'd make a little less but who knows.

This movie has the return of Freeza though. He's a iconic villain in Japan and he has not been a major part of DBZ since the Namek saga which was over 20 years ago. Freeza is the Joker of Dragon Ball. Not to mention Battle of Gods was pretty well receive, so people want to see more if they like the last movie.

The worst wish in history. Despair begins.
Pilaf and friends!
*Grabs bullhorn*
Toriyama! You have to chose!
*Pockets bullhorn*
I'm sure it will be fine.
The hype is kind of a toss-up. Battle of Gods has "first movie in a generation" (how many of us here now were in single digits when Z was current in Japan? A noteworthy number, wherever it falls) and the novelty of that, and a setup that ended up subverting nearly every negative stereotype of the DBZ movies to marvelous effect. Revival of F has yet to do anything to set itself as anything greater than a return to disposable (bi)annual fare and an effectively blatant fanfiction premise; I want Toriyama to surprise us, but like Battle of Gods its going to be going into the final movie and not before.

Can't find the Detective Conan movie on AniChart or ANN. Had to google to find it. O_O
*Reads synopsis. Sees this movie also has a "collecting seven items theme". Heh.*
Ever since I saw those first couple episodes about Kid's backstory a few seasons back (the recent Kaito anime), it's actually made his character less interesting for me; the mystery of "who is he?" was cooler, imo.
I've read a good chunk of the Detective Conan series; it so benefits from being available as ebooks; one of the reasons I stopped reading it a couple years ago was because there were just so many volumes that I didn't want to get anymore physical volumes of stuff I'd only read once; but on my phone it's wonderful--I am since caught up to where Viz has translated.
More OT; just having Freeza back alone isn't enough to build up hype with me; I need to know more about the meat of this movie in order to get excited about it. I already know what Freeza's powers are and what he's like so there's less left to my imagination. With Beerus you could imagine all sorts of powers he may have. We could wonder who exactly Whis was. Freeza's revenge is just Freeza's revenge until we actually learn a bit of what he has in store or what about this script so impressed Torishima.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
There's one thing. you said that really strikes me as important as it should for all. We don't have a whole lot to go off of from here on out. Information feels as though it has slowly halted and we need more of the "meat" of the story or else it's hard to continue productive discussion. I truly hope we can know more as I am eager to gain that information.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Lets not forget they pretty much spoiled everything about BoG, except the SSJG Goku Vs. Beerus fight and how it ended. They even showed all of the fights before hand; So I don't think I want that either.
I wonder if Toriyama is behind this lack of news somewhat because he want's it to be a secret and suprising?

On the subject of the fighting in BOG, I thought it was done very well myself. I loved the stuff in the cave, especially the way they used the water droplets to showcase how much was happening in a few seconds - that's the kind of stylish thing that DB's never really done before, and I hope we get to see something like it in FnF.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
They did that back at the 21st Budokai, with Krillin and Roshi having a whole fight in less than a second. If you take the water droplet scene at face value, Beerus and Goku are hilariously, pathetically slow compared to earlier characters.Gyt Kaliba wrote:On the subject of the fighting in BOG, I thought it was done very well myself. Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

That doesn't stop it from still being a far sight better than 'Oh man they're moving faster than our eyes can follow!'/*bunch of blurs flashing by in the air with occasional flashes of characters* thought, not in my book.

They had fight scenes in less then a second not a whole fight. And neither did Beerus and Goku.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Well, partly. I didn't like any of BoG's action, but that's not the only reason I preferred the humour. I thought that the humour in BoG was quite good and right up there with the manga's funniest moments.Cursed Lemon wrote:Could that be because the action parts weren't that good?Saiga wrote: I am one who preferred the comedic moments in Battle of Gods over the action parts
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I don't get why people are worry that this movie won't do well at the box office? If BOG was pretty well receive then won't more people want to see it to see what happens next? If people like the first movie then they go see the next movie. That's how sequels work unless the sequels sucks big time or they do a poor job on marketing the movie.

I was hoping for some 12 Universes stuff and expanding the universe with new characters, but Freeza is way more commercial than that.Chuquita wrote: More OT; just having Freeza back alone isn't enough to build up hype with me; I need to know more about the meat of this movie in order to get excited about it. The movie will be good if it's made well, still.
That time it was just played for laughs though. I don't know what speed the water droplet scene makes Beerus and Goku, but you'd have to calculate it, and not just take the scene as it is, to deconstruct it like that.RandomGuy96 wrote: They did that back at the 21st Budokai, with Krillin and Roshi having a whole fight in less than a second. And there are people that do just that, which is their prerogative I guess, but...that's not only way too much effort for me, personally, it would also ruin the entire experience for me. Another example of analyzing things way too much, in my opinion.Regarder wrote:That time it was just played for laughs though. Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
That's true, trying to make these comparisons just to dismiss the legitimacy of the film does not make sense as anyone with an opinion could try and argue the perception is what the camera shows at both events and blah blab blah it's simply not worth debating just enjoy it for what it is and the fact is I liked that scene in the cave in Battle of Gods.
The real discussion is in seeking news on this new film however and trying to satisfy the hype hunger lol.

So I just listened to Maximum the Hormone's F (yes, behind the times, I know) and while there were some portions I thought were okay, overall I didn't care for it. Not really excited for it to be in the film, but I am interested to see how they use it and what parts they choose to use. I definitely hope they don't use the whole song.

I think when the Freeza soldiers attack Earth and the second string team battle them is where the song will be played. At least that's how I imagine it.Freeza Soldier #156 wrote:So I just listened to Maximum the Hormone's F (yes, behind the times, I know) and while there were some portions I thought were okay, overall I didn't care for it. I'd almost forgotten since it's bimonthly now, but Saikyo Jump comes out next week: http://www.shonenjump.com/j/saikyo/
There's Dragon Ball in the preview, but I dunno if it means anything about F.
