I was used to it.
Hearing words is easier than reading them.
Buying DVD's was not much of an option.
Why bother with anything else if I'm not dissatisfied?

But after engrossing myself in the Manga and Japanese version of the Anime, I sometimes wonder if people who've been heavily exposed to both that prefer the dub have a mental dysfunction. It makes me sound like a jerk, but the quality of the two productions is just so far apart in opposite directions.
Oh come the fuck on. I remember something I said in the IRC chat, about how I get a chuckle out of the fans who act like they achieved some sort of higher consciousness from switching to the Japanese version and this isn't the first time I've seen a really asinine statement questioning the intelligence of dub fans (a couple were in the current Dragon Box discussion thread and another by penguintruth in a podcast thread) and it kinda makes me want to just say "Fuck you" to the whole forum and leave. Although I strangely keep coming back...
I think what a lot of people need to understand tis that for a lot of dub fans, the dub is what they associate Dragon ball Z the most with. People like me became fans through the dub only. Sure, I did watch a couple of fansubs out of impatience, but I as soon as Funi dubbed those episodes, I had no use for them. The dub is what made us fans and most of our fond memories of DBZ are from the dub. So what difference does it make whether they're fans of the dub or the Japanese version? They're still Dragon Ball Z fans and support the franchise and have so many fond memories of it. If some people just decided to stop looking through everything in their lens only, they'd be able to understand that not everyone gives a shit about the original, or how accurate the dub lines are to it, or any of that shit. They just want to sit back and watch the show that they know and love, and if you feel the need to give a stamp of approval to their fandom or tell them that they're not real fans or that everything they associate with Dragon ball Z is wrong (I'm looking at YOU, penguintruth), then, to be blunt - Fuck You. Who the hell do you think you are to tell other people how much of a fan they are simply because of what version of the show they like? From 2001-2003, I was a fucking fanatic. I bought the toys, the video games, the DVDs, shitty unofficial magazines, and a bunch of shit, without watching a lick of the Japanese version outside of it being a placeholder for the dub, and yet because I didn't watch the Japanese version, I was actually NOT a fan of DBZ but instead something different? Please.
What the fuck was that?!

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
