Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I believe you're mistaking "season" for "arc". The Kanto arc of Pokémon was 82 episodes long. (79 in the dub due to banned episodes.)Innagadadavida wrote:Pokemon had a 70-something episode season, and that show doesn't have a filler problem like Dragon Ball Z.
It's a common mistake, as the "Season 1 theme song" is kept for the entire Kanto arc, which also happens to cover the first 27 episodes of season 2. (And the "Season 2 theme song" is used for the entire Orange Islands arc, which includes the first 11 episodes of season 3. ... And later, the "Season 5 theme song" was used for the first 12 episodes of season 6 which finished off the Johto arc.)
Most seasons of Pokémon are exactly 52 episodes long. (With the exceptions of season 9, which had 46 and season 10 which had 51.)

Well, I trust your knowledge. Something tells me you're a fan. But 52 eps is still pretty long! 53 of DBZ Kai is right up to where Freeza is sliced by Trunks, right? They could go up until Namek explodes.
Where I got confused is the season one Pokemon box set is split into three with 70 episodes total.

Pokemon Company International just put it the way the Japanese "season" is. All the episodes in the 3 boxes used Mezase Pokemon Master as the opening in Japan, and Pokemon Theme in the English dub, so they thought putting it that way was best or something like that.Innagadadavida wrote:Where I got confused is the season one Pokemon box set is split into three with 70 episodes total.

According to NickandMore of ToonZone, who is a reputable news source, the Kai premieres will continue this month in July, but it's being slowed down to only 2 new episodes a week on Weds and Thurs. I guess Nicktoons and FUNi intend on airing all the way till at least the end of the Freeza saga, but Nicktoons is slowing down to give FUNi more time to dub.

Same here. This is the one thing I'm excited about the Kai dub more so than Freeza being recast.Blue wrote:Oh my the Ginyu Force is fast approaching. Can't wait to hear the new voices.

I really liked the scene between Vegeta and Gohan for some reason. I'm not sure why. I felt like it was done really well both in terms of script and acting.

Ehhh, I felt a lot of the VAs were underperforming in this episode. And, of course, I thought Sean Schemmel was too harsh and gravelly, and sounded too much like how he used to.

C'mon penguintruth, you're beating a long dead horse here. We all know you strongly dislike Schemmel as Goku.penguintruth wrote:Ehhh, I felt a lot of the VAs were underperforming in this episode. FUNimation is changing the dialogue for the home releases, the acting will stay pretty much the same. So if you don't like the acting in the TV broadcast, odds are you're not going to like it on the DVDs.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:Hopefully it's different on the home releases.penguintruth wrote:Ehhh, I felt a lot of the VAs were underperforming in this episode. The uncut version is recorded at the same time as the edited version, but I doubt there will be any changes from what has already been recorded, save Dende's line about "brothers and sisters."

Today's ep was ok aside from censoring. (Yeah, CN's was better). But Vegeta's yelling was ok, though I still prefer the season 2 "YOU WON'T ESCAPE MY WRATH!" Personally liked that more than Kai's, Funi's or the original Japanese.

Your opinions aren't exactly fresh and original, either. And I was talking about this particular episode. Schemmel had made a few strides before now, and he seems to be falling back again.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:C'mon penguintruth, you're beating a long dead horse here. Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Yeah, it's pretty hard to fully judge this particular episode acting wise, at least a good portion of it. This episode pretty much revolved around Vegeta threatening peoples lives and people talking about Vegeta threatening there lives. Methinks there will be a lot of changed dialogue for the uncut version. Most of the uncut lines tend to lean on the better, delivery wise, so we'll have to see.
I heard nothing wrong with Sean's Goku either, Son is basicly abusing his body in the short 5 days he has. Goku sounded slightly gravelly due to beating the shit out of himself, he then ate a senzu, then sounded normal, made sense to me. Nozawa's Goku can sound gravelly too, in fact one of her best power-ups sounded really gravelly.
Overall I think I'd say Sabat and Sean are about equal when it comes to Goku & Vegeta. The acting is more or less solid, but some of the vocal inflections tend to be uneven. So basically it leaves the characters sometimes sounding awesome and in character, sometimes off , and the odd time, mediocre.
However, and most importantly, neither have sounded terrible in the Kai dub, so that's still a major improvement from the Z dub.

If One Piece Season Three is anything to go by, they may go back and tweak a few things. From what I hear, they have been rushing on Kai's dub to get as much of it on TV as they can. One Piece Season Three was the same deal.JulieYBM wrote:The uncut version is recorded at the same time as the edited version, but I doubt there will be any changes from what has already been recorded, save Dende's line about "brothers and sisters."
