The early part feels like a moderately competent lighthearted saturday morning cartoon and is watchable in the same way that something like Thundercats is, while the later parts TRIES to do the kind of big long drawn-out story-arcs that DBZ did but since the stories are so uninteresting it instead becomes extremely boring.
The first parts of GT are my favorite parts about it and only falls off for me sometime during the tail end of the Baby arc.

Saturday morning cartoon is a good way to describe it, I feel. I have cousins who ,at the time GT was airing on TV over here is the states, were just kids that didn't really like Dragonball or Z at all. But they loved GT. And it was definitely because of the earlier adventure through space. I remember they would drop whatever they were doing to watch Goku fight Ludd or whomever.

Kid Goku was most interesting when he believed himself to be the strongest in the world.

I might get some hatred for this, but while his acting wasn't the best, I think Dale Wilson had a good voice for Cell.

Your post literally made me spew hatred. Nah not really. He's the Ocean Cell I'm assuming, yes? I've watched clips of Ocean Cell but never looked up who did the voice

Not all filler is bad. The fandom has a huge problem with covering their ears and screaming "Nope! Nope!" at anything that was not in the manga, even if it isn't bad or was included in Kai.

EDIT: The Garlic Jr. saga doesn't suck. People are always complaining about how Goku and Vegeta steal the spotlight, and yet we have an arc not focused on either of them, and that gives adequate focus not only to Gohan, Piccolo, and Krillin, but also the side characters.
I certainly agree with your filler opinion. I like a break from the action at times. I'm not big on Garlic Jr, but you do make a good point of the lesser characters getting a good shot. Nonetheless, it's not well written IMO.

It's the same reason you saw so much complaining about the Great Saiyaman episodes in the west when the Buu saga first started airing here. Some people just have no clue what the Dragonball franchise is even about.
Definitely, but those fans are evenly balanced by DB fans who will praise, buy and love anything with DB name on it, no matter how bad. They're also first to use "others don't understand what Dragon Ball is" excuse in defense of bad filler slice-of-life episodes. So, you know... The truth is sually somewhere in the middle :shifty:

I consider Freeza coming back to be the most interesting development of the Universal Survival Arc.

I share the sentiment, there is a lot of development room here

Too early to say. It could be excellent...it could also be horrible.

I would say that is the case for most of the Westwood dub cast. Great actors with poor direction and writing. I would say their dub held together slightly better than Funimation during the same era, until Kai came along.

Its still a shame Ocean Kai is missing in action, the actors truly deserve another shot at Dragon Ball, especially with (hopefully) faithful scripts and decent direction.

I like the Golden Frieza arc and I don't think it's nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Yeah it has some shitty animation in spots but that's par for the course with a Dragon Ball tv series.

I'm with you on that one. One of the mains reasons that makes like that arc is Goku/Vegeta training under Whis subplot.
As far as the writing goes that arc beats the Movie by far, even though that was easy.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

The only thing I didn't like from the goldens Freeza arc was, oddly, the fight with Freeza. I was pretty entertained before then, even if I felt the arc was dropping the ball in a few places.

Uh, no. Dragon Ball has never had perfect animation, but the RoF Arc was far worse than the average. That said, it had some good cuts, and I liked the scripts and storyboards better than what we got in the movie, so I'd say I do enjoy it on the whole.

Gohan should never have had the most potential, he should just have been incredibly smart instead..

Goku never had the most potential. Only in Early Dragon Ball he was a prodigy, which was a constant element of his character. However, come Saiyan Arc and that's no longer the case for him.

Modern DB is all about giving fans what they want so I think sometime down the line we'll get a Ssj5. What it'll look like and where it'll happen is anyone's guess.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
