Funi's panel tomorrow runs through Super if I did my math right. 4pm to 6pm in CA is 7pm to 9 pm in NJ making it run 8am to 10am Sunday in Japan where Super airs at 9am.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I can vouch for this. Working in animation myself; most storyboards and animatics are drawn very loosely because they're only meant to convey the action/staging/etc... The more detailed boards tend to either be for studio/project pitches or sometimes if you're sending them off to a foreign studio to work on.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I don't know what storyboards you've been looking at, but a lot of them rarely resemble the intended designs because they are mostly used for layout, sequencing, composition, etc. The art style isn't all that important. Hell, Hiromu Arakawa's manga storyboards usually look like someone tried drawing circles on top of a running washing machine. xDUpFromTheSkies wrote:I know, but the character designs look nothing like the official ones. I've never seen a storyboard like that.
Nine times out of ten though, we have to change something; so the characters are drawn very gestural, or at best as a sketch.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Man, we're down to the wire and still no news of this leaving Japan. I'm honestly worried.
FUNi's either planning a huge surprise or Toei dropped the ball. Either way, they've already missed their chance. There's no time to get the word out anymore. Dragon Ball doesn't work like other anime; you can't announce a full simulcast mere hours before the show airs and expect every branch of this massive fanbase to get the info in time. We needed at least a week for hype.
Toei needs instant international exposure on this. I'll remain optimistic until tomorrow. Worst case scenario: The newest installment of Toei's biggest international cash cow will be enjoyed exclusively in its home country for its debut. Meanwhile, the rest of the world will be visiting places like Saiyan Island while we fans do damage control when people unknowingly run into poorly-translated fansubs. All because Toei doesn't want to take control of the conversation.

Vegeta's family trip is going to be awesome. Confirmed.
I mean, Vegeta has literally boarded the hype train already.

how... what... why... where did this come from?GokuRules987 wrote: Proof Goku is stronger than Vegeta! lol
I mean, we -KNOW- Vegeta is always "one step behind Goku", but I don't see the how that particular picture is any proof of that.

Only thing it proves is that Vegeta is the better father and family man.soulnova wrote:how... what... why... where did this come from?GokuRules987 wrote: Proof Goku is stronger than Vegeta! lol

I hope a bird doesn't poop on Vegeta, I mean look at that face he's having the time of his life...
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The thing about simulcasts though is that they don't air like television where if you miss it, you either hope for an "on demand" type situation or a rerun. In this case it's only on demand where once it's up it's usually for the entire run, or at least a good while. They can announce this thing tomorrow, and since this is dragonball, the news will get out there pretty freaking fast, and then people can check it out, hopefully immediately, or when they get around to it. With a subscription, of course.MagicBox wrote:Man, we're down to the wire and still no news of this leaving Japan. I'm honestly worried.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Yeah, I get that people can watch simulcasts at their leisure (and thank goodness for that, or I'd never see a single episode!). It's just... I dunno. I guess I'm just irked by how much better Toei could have handled this whole thing. Every hour they wait, they're losing people. Folks are already scouting around for fansub groups. They want to consume this show ASAP. Toei could have ended this conversation immediately. They just don't realize what a gold mine they're sitting on. I have no doubts FUNi is jumping through hoops for it, which makes the situation even more disheartening.
But hell, FUNi could announce the whole thing tomorrow and all this typing would be for nothing, so what do I know?

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
So Is Toriyama going to be writing entire story line for dragon ball super aswell as creating characters designs or will he get help from other artists/script writers? Because knowing Toriyama hes definitely not as talented and creative as he used to be 20 years ago. Infact back in the day you would never see characters like ssjgod Goku who happened to have some lame ass recolored hair and toned down muscle pass thru his editor. Toriyama's talent back then while compared to today is almost a joke. Which makes me really question if Toriyama actually cares about Dragon Ball hard enough, or does nobody check his work?
Ohh So you cant draw straight up cool looking dudes anymore? Well maybe its okay to get ideas and inspiration. Characters like General Blue and Mercenary Tao Pai Pai didn't just appear out of your mind Toriyama or did they?

...Uh, you do remember SSJ right? That was functionally a recolor. SSJ2? It barely changed from SSJ1 in the grand scheme.GokuRules987 wrote:So Is Toriyama going to be writing entire story line for dragon ball super aswell as creating characters designs or will he get help from other artists/script writers? Toriyama loves understated transformations.

Yeah but atleast it was something that even his editor choose to not ignore, he knew the series was starting to become shit after frieza arc. Some old fart Dr.Gero fighting against ladies, how can you consider that a shounen series? Having mad ass scientist appear who happens to collect of all the villians DNA that goku fought to use against him. Thats something you would see only in DC/Marvel comics.Mewzard wrote:...Uh, you do remember SSJ right? That was functionally a recolor. SSJ2? But yeah after the introduction of Super Saiyan 2 you could definitely start to hear cows crying with all their milk being milked away and thats when we knew that Toriyama was out of ideas which later he managed to fix by introducing Super Saiyan 3

That's how storyboard tend to look, especially for television series. Storyboards are usually created in three weeks for a single episode, which means there isn't always a lot of time to draw perfectly. Some storyboard artists aren't even artists, they're just directors drawing their own storyboard. Toei Animation expects their directors to draw their own storyboards, even if they are not good artists. It's only in more recent years this has changed a little, especially as schedules shorten and the workload increases.UpFromTheSkies wrote:I know, but the character designs look nothing like the official ones. Assuming it is official, of course.
The key animators know what's going on so the storyboards don't need to be very detailed, anyway. They can tell "this is Vegeta", especially since they speak with the episode director and animation supervisor before they begin drawing their layouts and key animation drawings.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I've heard that his editors were very heavily involved throughout the Android/Cell arcs. On top of that; many, many, many people consider Cell/Androids to be one of if not the best arcs in the series (myself included). There are plenty of shounen series' with "old farts" and ladies that fight. And if you think Super Saiyan 3 was any more "original" than 2...then I dunno what to tell you.GokuRules987 wrote:

The Artificial humans saga was really messy. A few people considering it the best arc doesn't really mean anything.Big Momma wrote:I've heard that his editors were very heavily involved throughout the Android/Cell arcs. Looking at it from a more objective standpoint, it had tons of problems and the writing was not good.
