Toriyama has always balanced serious and comedy pretty well; there's no reason why he won't do it now.

And that's what I and most people hope from this movie. Comedy for the first 10-15 minutes, then the rest of the movie, just get down to business! BoG was a bit too lighthearted for MANY PEOPLE! I've said this a thousand times already.

Am I missing something here? This is so like Toriyama and has been forever. It's not even like this is the first time we've seen goofy stuff like this in Dragon Ball. I just don't understand why some people want Dragon Ball to not be Dragon Ball anymore. Toriyama has always balanced serious and comedy pretty well; there's no reason why he won't do it now.

To many people Dragon Ball is the only thing Toriyama did that is worth noting. Not even taking into consideration that many people Dr Slump a superior title over Dragon Ball. And it's pretty obvious that the recent art is Dr Slump inspired.

The cutesy girly babies are enough to put off fans even though the designs are indeed Toriyama's style. It's the first time in the DB world we have seen anything to do with these types of angels in hell and it only makes the film look less credible.

It's all about Toei expanding audiences, cross-promoting and making money.

I know it looks bad now but keep in mind this is written by the same guy that can make an arc about a fat bubble gum monster fit nicely with the likes of Freeza and Cell so lets wait and see how it turns out before getting mad over it.

Except in this case you just know that this wasn't something that Toriyama came up with on his own and the producers just asked him to find a way to shoe horn them into the movie somehow to promote the movie and the band.

Its just like the last movie where they had that completely unnecessary scene with the police woman voiced by the judo woman who delivered her line terribly.

If anything, it should expanding more to the teens and adults (12 or 13 and up) since in DB there are people blasting holes though each other, blood splattering around the floor, ripping arms off Mortal Kombat style, and dangerous verbal threats like "I'll rip your heart out and crush it" in BOTH the Japanese and English dubs.

And don't anyone here say "it's shonen". Half the anime in that category have expanded their audience to the teens and adults and did well financially, and I don't even watch anime anymore, but I know there are some out there like Jojo, HxH, YYH, etc. that have WAY more brutal moments than BoG.

Maybe because they have always been a part of Dragon Ball's demographic? Although it can appeal to all ages, DB is a kid's show through and through.

DBZ was already incredibly successful with kids back when the series had all the violence so there should be no need for them to now shove in cutesy coloured baby angels to appeal to kids.

Remember, this a 120 minute movie. Those baby angles are literally gonna have a grand total of 2 minutes, even if that, of screentime. It won't be a detriment to the film as a whole. They'll appear, say a few cute things, do a few cute things and disappear forever. Trust me, I'm not a big fan of this, but I'm not gonna stress over it like everyone else seems to be.

Looking at that screenshot....I can't believe we went from Freeza ripping off peoples arms, killing and beating kids and torturing Krillin to baby colour themed angels and cute fluffy animals...sigh.

Dude, will you chill the heck out? These characters aren't now going to be the film's central focus. Have you ever heard of "comedy"? These are Hell's Angels. Cute and cuddly creatures torturing the PLANET-DESTROYING TYRANT known as Freeza. That's funny. That's humorous. That's Toriyama. Pick up a manga and you'll see Dragon Ball has tons of amazing comedic moments. This will be one of them and it will be brief.

So? Shonen is a broad term than includes a wide range of ages and mindsets and various sub-genres. Death Note is just as shonen as Dragon Ball, for example. Being shonen doesn't mean it has to infantilized (especially not more than what already was previously).

What I mean by "little kids" 3-9 or some shit similar. I know they have been appealing to the older age range too, but it seems they are holding back lately, especially with the way the JSAT special and BoG turned out. I dunno what kinda crack Toriyama is smoking to draw these stupid "cutsey" crap. There weren't that much cutsey crap in the original DB either, so WHY THE HELL IS HE DOING THIS?

Toriyama better not ass-rape the series. I apologize for overreacting*woosaw*.

Toriyama is obviously probing Bullza's brain in order to gauge what pisses him off and put it in the movie.

Seriously, this is great. Best news since we found out Pilaf was in. I cannot for the life of me see why anyone would want a super-serious non-spinoff Dragon Ball movie. It worked for Bardock and History of Trunks, but those were totally different settings than that of Goku and co. A super serious movie would just feel....off.

So going by your logic, 1/3 of the entire manga was infantilized. Especially the Majin Boo arc.
