Of course, doesn't fix the other 40%... But hey.
Also, on the topic of Goku's Japanese voice repelling potential fans? Definately. Just this past week I started a DB Kai thread on the Madman forums, one of the people who replied after seeing the episode said:
Dr.Jackal wrote:So, i just watched the first episode.
This is the first time i have watched DB(Z) in Japanese [never bothered to in the past]. My god, Goku's VA is awful, it sounds like someone is strangling a cat.

I personally like Goku's/Gohan's VA. She does an awesome job, I'd say, portraying their carefree natures. (And this is coming from a guy who was "raised" on the Funi dub.)

I'm not a fan of Goku sounding like Japanese Micky Mouse in the original version. I got over that quickly though since there are good voices in there like Freeza and Perfect Cell.
I've actually watched all of DBZ raw without subtitles, after having seen it in English of course. I figured that since I had watched the series in English so many times, I could pretty much tell what was going on without subs.
Honestly? The only way I could ever see my self truly comprehending while simultaneously enjoying the foreign version of anything, would be if I actually knew whatever leanguage the movie/series happened to be. I can't STAND huge, blotchy, super-pixelated, Hong Kongease subtitles covering up the bottom of the screen. Sometimes the MIDDLE of the screen is even botched up eye-soaring subs during complex discussions. To me that's even worse than FUNi cropping the series into widescreen, at least some episodes actually look as well-framed as the movies.
I've yet to see subtitles utilized in a way that actually compliments the art or picture composition, and it just looks like shit 99.9% of the time. So raw DBZ is the "definitive" version to me because of this, but FUNi will always be my fav.
Krillin, the guy is just a ridiculous midget without nose.Seriously, he looks like some kind of bizarre monster.
Krillin's head is also pretty big like a balloon.

Eh... it gets kinda old hearing elitists say things like "IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED WHEN GOKU MET BULMA"
I'm not so sure it would work that well... but what ever, the story is like 90% accurate on the English version anyway, when people aren't suddenly commanders of the Red Ribbon Army...

Little late again, but I'd say so. Hell the comments on my Youtube video proves it. My video is in my signature.

Well... IMO, Masako's voice IS Goku. I dunno. I don't think of it as a woman's voice... just a very strange unique voice. So the first time I heard it in Japanese, I wanted to hear Goku talk more so I could hear more of it. I dunno, just love his voice.
And yeah, it does change when he goes from kid to adult. It's even more obvious in GT when he shifts to kid to adult so often, or eps with Gohan and Goten with Goku around, cause you get to hear how adult Goku sounds and how young Goku used to sound at the same time.

For me, I dunno I wouldn't say its just Goku's voice. I grew up with the American version so too me Sean Schemel
is Goku. I don't have a problem with the Japanese version but because the American version was the first version I saw, it's the one that I keep close to my heart.

Honestly, goku`s original voice doesn`t seem girly at all to me. I`ve never met any girl or woman that sounded remotely like that.
That said, it doesn`t sound like a real life man either.
Honestly I think it sounds like a cartoon charather, like bart simpson. A larger than life voice. Since that`s what he is, I never had a problem with it.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

oh yea that scream was epic too but the one I posted really shows off Seans set of lungs if anything else...he was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Kirby Marrow. To the TC, I dont think people dont like the orginal just because of Goku's voice, I got over it pretty fast, I think its just a lot of people grew up with the DUB and they hold it in a special place in there heart. I know, sort of cheesy seeing as how its just a cartoon, but that is how I see it.
omegacwa wrote:I grew up watching both the English dub and Japanese version. I like Nozowa's voice more than any English Goku. But If I had to pick one English Goku I like the most it would be Peter Kelamis.
I'm sorry but everytime I think of Peter Kelamis as Goku I think of Rolf from Ed Edd and Eddy, I cant take him seriously and while I respect your opinion to me he was the worst English Goku of them all.

From what I've read so far, I think the best answer to the thread's original question is:
"Yes, but it shouldn't."

Hey I respect how you feel and I agree he was that great in the main show but in The World's Strongest nobody was touching his performance. Except for Ms. Masako. Watch the Pioneer dub and compare it to Funimation's redub. Peter Kelamis out does Sean Schemmel in every single way.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.
If we're all here for a reason then I'm just visiting.
If it's held in your heart then you can't let go.

Everytime I hear Ian Corlett I think of Megaman from that old Saturday morning cartoon...only that just makes him more awesome.

Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

I miss Ian, I mean I hate to steer this thread off topic but I though he was the best goku...I would have love to see him stay for the whole series.
