Goku's Japanese voice, anyone else not like it at all?

Eh, to me Schemmel doesn't really capture the child-like aspect of Goku too well becaus His Goku just doesn't come off as child like to me. His Goku actually seems more like a typical man, or as it has been said before, superhero. I think Metalwario64 hit the nail on the head when he compared Goku to Michael Jackson. They both have the disposition and mentality of a child. I just don't get that from Schemmel's Goku.

Watch the dubs of Movies 1, 2, 8 (all of which had accurate dubs), and 12 and try to tell me that you don't get that from Sean Schemmel's Goku.

Sure it should. Turn on the Japanese track on your DVDs and listen to Goku's name being pronounced. There's no w-sound between the o and k there. There's a very very clear one in the dub.

His name should be pronounced "Goh-Koo" like "Go" as in "I'm GOing to the store" and Ku as in... well, like the coo in the word "Cool".

The Dub pronounced his name right... which is one of the only Japanese words they got right...

I think what he means was in the dub it's pronounced GOku rather than GoKU. The emphasis is placed on the wrong syllable.

I only have the Pioneer DVDs of 1 and 2 and haven't touched the dub of movie 12 so I can't comment on those. But I've had a dub only VHS of movie 8 for years and every time I watched it I never got that childlike feeling from Schemmel's Goku, though I admit it's been ages since I watched the dub but I doubt my opinion will change.

If you're introduced to the series through the Dub, and make the transition to the Japanese version, Son's voice sounds funny to you. No two ways about it.

But I think Nozawa is the de facto Son Goku. (and Son Gohan, and Son Goten for that matter...) it's so bad that at this point whenever I watch The Drum Island Arc of One Piece, or Watch Movie 9 (which was a retelling of Drum) I can't watch any scene with Dr. Kureha without hearing Son. Almost like I can't watch Dragon Ball Kai now and watch scenes with Kuririn and Not hear Monkey D. Luffy XD. Hell, I even had to tell myself "That's Piccolo, not Ace... And HOLY SHIT, BUGGY IS RADITZ!!" XD I kept expecting to hear Raditz say "I Have FLASHILY Taken your Son Kakarott, and if you don't Bring 100 bodies to me, I'll FLASHILY eradicate everyone on this Miserable Planet!" XD

Hah, yeah. Just the other day I was watching a random episode of Lupin III on TV, a kid showed up and when he started talking I was like "holy crap, this kid's voiced by Nozawa!". Same thing happens with characters voiced by Ryo Horikawa...

I've never thought any of Son's English VAs were "Bad" Per-se. (although for SOME REASON almost all of them struggle with this simple concept of Pronouncing "Kaio-Ken" right... >_>)

Thanks, that's pretty neat. Schemmel actually sounds awesome in there. Makes me wonder; if they did a full redub of DBZ today, maybe I could actually watch it without cringing...

That's right. Though I'm afraid that some people might still be confused, so I'll try to explain things in more detail.

Syllables are made up of morae (singular: mora). For example: cow is one syllable made up of two morae (ka and oo).

Gokuh is two syllables long. The first syllable is one mora (goh) and the second one is two (koo and oo).
In the English dubs it is usually pronounced somewhat differently. The first syllable is often pronounced with two morae (goh and oo), while the second is just one (koo).
