Those things ARE picked on/beaten down for those faults, though.

Naruto IS ragged on for Sasuke's never-ending string of powerups.
People DO think Bleach is recycled over and over.
Pokemon IS disregarded by many because it never ends.

So yeah, while those problems are rampant throughout various shows, it doesn't automatically negate any of Dragon Ball's. That list(obviously) just chose to focus on DB. If it was a list of what was wrong with Bleach, and it said Ichigo's untouchable strength, I could easily just yell, "HELLO? GOKU FROM DBZ, ANYONE?"

And, while I didn't look at the list, I'm not sure I could or would take it seriously anyway, since points 6, 9, 10, and 11 are not actual faults of the series. "Race and Anime?" What, are they complaining there aren't any black people in DBZ? Ignoring Black from Red Ribbon, since I'm 99% sure the article doesn't even touch pre-Z.

That, and IGN.

You can't spell ignorant without...ugh, never mind. Overused phrase is overused.

I've only skimmed through this thread, and there are a couple things I want to say.

Regarding using the term "anime"...I really don't. I mean, in all technicality, "'anime" is just a Japanese word for "cartoon"...so they are both the same. I call Dragonball a cartoon the same as I would call, say, Blues Clues a cartoon. That doesn't mean that Japanese cartoons don't have their own style, and that's where I'll differentiate the two. I'll say "Japanese anime/style" when I want to be more specific, but all in all they're cartoons to me. The same goes with the term "manga". It's the Japanese word for comic. As stated before, we don't call Spanish comics "cómico's". There are different styles...and I'm not pointing out people here, because I see this all over the internet, but it really makes me kind of mad when I see people get mad...sometimes furious...when people refer to Japanese cartoons as such. And forgive me for being on of "those people" ...but it comes off as being a "weeaboo" to me.

I remember there being a clip posted here of some girl trying to argue about Alucard's(spelling?) name at a VA panel during some convention.

That's pretty silly. We know what they mean, but we use the word 'anime' for a specific reason. If we are to start calling the anime 'cartoon', or the manga 'comic', I guess we should also call every character what their name translates to.

Why not? An accurate translation is as valid as the original word.

People just call japanese animation, anime, because they don`t want to say "japanese animation" everytime they refer to it. So they just call it anime, which is a term used by the japanese to refer to animation. So by hearing the word anime you automatically associate animation with japanese, and that is why the term is being used to refer to japanese animation.

However, that doesn`t mean that the term doesn`t translate to animation in general or cartoons in general, because it does. And that translation is as valid ad the original term.

I think names are a different field. It depends on the intention of the naming. For example, it'd be okay for a series like Dragonball because nearly all the names are a pun on something. It would work if the dub had "Burter" changed to "Butter" and "Jeice" changed to "Juice"...in fact, I wish they HAD done that, now! :x

People use the term "anime" because it's become a subculture in and of itself. There are sites, blogs, web shrines, and social networks dedicated to cartoons from Japan. The differentiation from any other cartoon is sort of required, in this regard.

It doesn't mean they're NOT cartoons, though. They are.

Actually, his name is a pun on 'cheese,' and Viz's "Jheese" is a much better approximation.
