FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
Is it going to be released in Japanese only?
Language: Japanese - From the website.
If it is released this way it wont bother me I was planning on buying it anyway from amazon japan for even more.

Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
Please, let's try to keep opinions like this to ourselves. I'm not trying to play unofficial moderator but that last thing I want to see is this thead getting locked because of dub vs sub bickering.Lance Freeman wrote:So, wait a minute... Funimation is interested in putting out a stripped down, censored version of Dragon Ball Z... I could have sworn we got something exactly like that over 10 years ago.
Also, I read the news again on the front page and there doesn't seem to be any information on a re-dub. It is still possible that the American release will be just Subs, however I would really like to see Funimation do a re-dubbing of the series.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
Well I'm glad I held out for a release of this especially on Blu-Ray.
You know, I am wondering..
What if they throw out a Sub only release?
Just to make more money in the long run...

Chris Sabat made some comment at a con once [citation needed], he said if they were to do it, they'd redub it.
I'm just hoping for some recasts. I'd like a different Freeza more than anything else.

I don't think a sub only release would sell as well. What if they throw out a Sub only release?

Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
That's what I'm thinking.
I doubt FUNimation is that stupid ala Bandai with Gurren Lagann.
But like I said, it could be a way for them to make even more money.

It's about time this cameout in the USA, and I can't wait
. I think the Z part was added due to avoid confusion since they don't want american fans to get confused since they likely think DBkai is a sequel to GT. Not every american fan of DBZ keeps track with stuff outside the USA

I do find it funny how people are freaking out about the Z.
It's called Brand Awareness people.

Gotta agree with Soul. "Z" carries a lot of weight here in the United States. It's the same reason VIZ changed the name of the manga.

Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")
The best way to make the most money is to offer both languages. Why single one type of fan out, you're only going to make them angry. Chances are if what Innagadadavida said is accurate they are going to offer a new dub(as the primary option) with the ability to switch over to the subs. That's the most logical approach and I think that would make mostly everybody happy.Soul wrote:That's what I'm thinking.

As fun side note?
Those of us who are buying FUNi's Blue Brick DB Sets?
A "Blue" Blu-Ray Kai set would look nice with them, much like the Japanese Blu-Ray release.

May
DVD/BD at the same time with the same episode count (boxes), 5 dollar premium for BD.
Same dub cast, better quality dub with great care being taken according to a few dub actors.
Here is the info explained better at FBR- http://www.fanboyreview.net/?p=2499

I'm happy about the title change by FUNimation.
1. It's what I've wanted Kai to be called since it came out.
2. It's great advertisement.
3. WHAT IF there is a Kai just for Dragon Ball, the first series?
Calling it Dragon Ball Z Kai would be great and a good "just-in-case" thing.

Really, I don't want much, just replace Linda Young as Freeza.

Can we start some petition or e-mail campaign or something. I'm fairly certain that 99% of Dragon Ball fans absolutely hate Linda Young's Freeza.

There are a lot of roles they need to recast if they really feel like showing the show some respect. If it's the same no-talents, they might as well not even try.

(There's ALWAYS big news on the days where I can't get to the computer until late at night. >_O )
The added Z looks silly to me, but I understand why they did it; so that people who don't know about Kai already know exactly what it is they're getting.
I do want to see a new Freeza, and maybe a new Goku. It'd also be nice to hear them pronounce "saiyan" correctly and to use "Son" Goku when his last name comes up.

...Wow. I almost feel bad for her. She could be the nicest person in the world and yet she gets ripped apart by a bunch of random people on a forum. That can't be good for her self esteem; it's actually sad to think about.
I honestly like her work as Freeza and I think that if she was given a proper script she'd be an excellent Freeza. Honesty I can't think of any English voice actor that could really replace her.
These "no-talent" actors are real people you know and if you were in their shoes I don't think you'd appreciate being bad mouthed by someone you don't even know. You don't have to like them (it's all personal taste) but cut them some slack.penguintruth wrote:There are a lot of roles they need to recast if they really feel like showing the show some respect.
