I'd say you did hear right. The score for the Dragon Ball series runs the gamut of pretty much everything. It has music for the comedy, music for the tender moments, and extremely epic music for the fighting, and all of it is top notch. Especially early on, there are some tracks that haven't aged well (some that feel rather '80s-synth inspired), but even those aren't bad. Some people have said it sounds like Kung Fu movie music, but a lot of the more orchestral pieces, especially considering the admittedly bad mono mixing job, remind me more of classic cinema from the '40s, so it feels really grandiose to me. Get ready for a heavy amount of vibra-slap, though. Kikuchi seemed to love that little instrument.

If you are buying Viz`s regular volumes of the manga, you should have bought the Vizbig volumes instead.

The Vizbig volumes are a sort of omnibus edition. In short, each Vizbig volume:
- has three original volumes;
- is cheaper than 3 standard volumes;
- has a white high quality paper instead of the grey standard quality paper of the regular edition;
- has bigger frame and panels (bigger art) although the thickness is actually less than the thickness of 3 regular volumes put together;
- has some of the original color pages printed in the original colors instead of in greyscale.

Overall, the Vizbig volumes are a better and cheaper choice. Their only defect compared to the regular volumes is that, in the Vizbigs, some nudity and whatnot is censored (but they are so well censored that you would never noticed it if you didn`t know it was censored) while in some regular volumes they are not. All Viz`s editions of Dragon Ball manga have censorship but some editions have less than the Vizbig edition. And some have more.

Over here for Dragon Ball we have Gollancz Manga Volumes 1-7 (where I live) and everything else is viz, so I could buy Viz Big 3 and every one after that.

I live in the good old U.k home of fish n chips and bad weather :D

I don't think they have VIZBIG in the stores near me so I'll just buy online.

Had a peek at the blurb, looks like this is where action will take over for the most part. Not completley but perhaps the point where the first genre you'd assign it too is action.

I assume you're talking about the 21st Tenka'ichi Budoukai (the tournament). Yeah, that's the part where the series becomes action and different to what the series was like before. That's the part that really gets people hooked and I'm sure you'll like it.

I think he was actually talking about Volume 5. The third arc is the start of honest to goodness heroes-vs-villains material, but it's still very goofy. One of my favorite parts of the series.

The RRA army arc was my least favourite part of Dragon Ball, but it's got some action in it so you might enjoy that.

Viz divided the manga in two collections, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, because the anime is more popular than the manga.

Anyway, the first 16 volumes of the manga are available as Dragon Ball Vizbig Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (the last one has 4 original volumes) and they have all been released already.

The other ones are or will be available as Dragon Ball Z Vizbig Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The first 6 ones have been released already, DBZ Vizbig Volume 7 will be released tomorrow and some bookstores are already selling it. DBZ Vizbig Volume 8 is scheduled to release on July and DBZ VizBig 9 is scheduled to release on October.

I already have DB Vizbig Volumes 1-5 and DBZ Vizbig Volumes 1-6 and I´m waiting for Volume 7 to arrive in my mail.

Started reading Volume 5, just finished the Goku vs Jackie fight. That was just epic but I knew Akira wouldn't kill off the hero but then again there are the Dragon Balls. Will post a review over the weekend of the arc and will go out later and buy Volumes 6 and 7 and VIZBIG3. I know it's kinda pointless buying Volume 7 but Viz isn't uncut is it?

Also decided to read all of the manga first then watch the anime. Hopefully by the time I've reached the end of Volume 42 the first Dragon Box for Dragon Ball will be out.

That'd be nice if Funi somehow released it on the exact day I finished. I'll probally finish the Dragon Ball Manga in about June or July if I space out every volume or arc. Then the Z Portion can last me till Christmas and then hopefully by the New Year the first box will be out.

Finished Volume 5, not too keen on the Red Ribbon so far but they have potential. I'll write my arc review sometime soon, maybe tommorow or Monday.
