I watched saturday morning cartoons well into my early teens. And either way that's no excuse. Did you see it? That was the worst promotional video I've ever seen. It's worse than what I thought the worse could possibly be.

Yeah, I did see it. I lol'd at the "save your best friend" part. By the time you gather the Dragon Balls, your friend will be dead.

What in the fuck was that? Talk about over-playing the Dragon Balls' role.

LOL!!

I don't know what's more funny. Bubbles dancing to Krillin grieving over Goku's death, or intense fighting noises put to Chi Chi and Gyu Mao driving.

Okay, well first of all, yes, you need to specify. Nobody else was talking about the same thing you were. They were all talking about how his lips might be censored. You just hopped in and started talking about something else without telling us what it was. Secondly, that does not make your sentance correct.

If you were talking about an event that already happened. Your sentance should say "Why did they censor Mr. Pope's lips?"

Also, if you were talking about Cartoon Network, no they did not censor Popo's lips.
So who did?
Innagadadavida wrote:Why did they censor Mr. Pope's lips?
I already knew about that! no need to tell me!
Then why did you get it wrong? At least get the things you know right.

I already don't like this version; there is a HUGE black bar on each side of the picture making it way smaller than my tv screen.

EDIT: Why do we not get the eyecatchers on tv? Is it because theres more than 1 commercial or because they want to 'promote' their own channel?

The Farmer With Shotgun...upgraded to Farmer With Laser Blaster.

EUGH...well, I'm not very angry because we have this God-given gift called "uncut DVDs." Still......that was........WHY!? The Nicktoons broadcast, which used AN ACTUAL BULLET WITH THE ACTUAL SOUND EFFECT, WAS RATED Y-7! Why edit it even more!!??

Farmer with Shotgun became Farmer with Lasergun.

Haven't seen an edit like that in ages. They muted the cocking of the gun, changed the blast to a laser shot and the bullet was turned...into a glowing pellet. When fired back, it made another laser sound effect.

Cable has different standards and practices than syndication.

CRAP! I missed farmer with laser. ... How did Raditz catch and throw backa laser?

I do however LOOOVE the next episode preview where they made it look like a manga panel.

The gun is pretty much the same, save for the end being colored gold (still looks like a gun and isn't colored like the guns 4Kids made One Piece have). It's mainly the sounds that were made and the bullet that were vastly changed.

Also, no original next episode preview. Instead, it's done in a comic book style.

Er, you know they're airing Z Kai in 4:3, right?

And what the hell was up with that comic-book style next episode preview!? What, now the previews aren't even allowed!? And you have to write out the sound effects, re-do the narration, and make it look even cornier!? Now I'm getting a little angry. Nicktoons edited this show respectfully, this is just outrageous!

Okay.......I must calm down....I must calm down.............I'm getting the uncut Blu-Rays..........must...........calm..........

Uh, 4Kids didn't do the editing. Nor did Nicktoons. That's all FUNi abiding by the rules of the networks' censorship policies.

But then how is the Nicktoons broadcast version, which is also rated Y-7, done with less editing? Is it because it's a premium cable network?

Either way, this does not bode well for the acceptance of anime in the United States. I've always wanted all anime to get on TV with "tasteful" editing like the Toonami airing of FUNimation's dub of One Piece. Hell, even the Nicktoons edits are an improvement over what 4Kids has done. What's so harmful about showing the regular episode previews? This is why I hate 4Kids, they edit far more than what they're supposed to. There's editing for safety purposes (which is okay) and editing for marketability purposes (which is NOT okay). The next episode previews fall under that last category. I feel like Freeza, right now. I just want to scream "VERMIN!" at 4Kids in Chris Ayers' Freeza voice.

Exactly why.

Nicktoons is on cable. CW is syndication. Obviously you can't have the same things from cable air on syndication.

Really man? Come on, it is Saturday frickin' morning broadcast television! It's one thing to whine and complain about the edits, especially if the show didn't have a Uncut release but..uh this is DBZ Kai here.
You can easily buy the Uncut Blu-ray or DVD, let alone the original DBZ in DBox form.

Personally? I'm just glad kids today get to see the show.

And I mentioned that I'm glad they're releasing uncut Blu-rays and DVDs, which I'm totally getting. I'm also glad that a new generation of DBZ fans will arise from this show, especially because this show has a much better dub than what we grew up with. In truth, I'm calming down already. I guess I just want a broader acceptance of anime, and these edits won't work well towards that end. That's all.

And again, 4Kids has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE EDITS. They're not touching this series. At all. All they're doing is broadcast it. FUNi is making the edits according to what the network (CW) has set, as well as the censors.

That would explain the Farmer's upgrade in weaponry, certainly, but it still doesn't explain the revised next-episode preview. Again, that's what I mean by marketability edits vs safety edits. Safety edits I understand (for the most part), but I hate marketability edits (edits made to make the show "cooler" or more marketable to a younger audience), and 4kids is notorious for those. That revised next-episode preview.......I'd have to imagine that's a 4kids decision. There was nothing unsafe about the original next episode previews. That and it's going to confuse even more people who refuse to watch the show because they don't know an uncut version exists.

I'm pretty sure the new previews are shorter than the originals, which would be logical due to the amount of time they have to air it before the next series starts. If anything, blame the amount of commercials that air.
