I hope they don't use footage from the orange bricks...

I wouldn't be surprised if FUNi went either way on that one.Perfect wrote:I hope they don't use footage from the orange bricks...

I'd have a Trunks "NOOOOOOOOOOO" moment if that happens.Perfect wrote:I hope they don't use footage from the orange bricks...

If they can't use the DBox masters...
Use the shitty masters they had before their "Remastering."

Re: FUNimation and Toei announce online streaming of DBZ!
Well if they do use them that would answer a question I posted a little while ago about what Funimation was going to do with those masters now that they have the Dragon Box Z masters for DVD. Actually if they do use the remastered footage that would be good enough for streaming. It would actually be pretty smart of Funimation to do it that way to get some more use out of the remastered footage.Soul wrote:If they can't use the DBox masters...

I would use Vader's "NOOOOOOOO!!!" to be honest. It's much funnier due to its immense cheesiness.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:I'd have a Trunks "NOOOOOOOOOOO" moment if that happens.
Provided that the D-Box masters can't be used, the "shitty" masters would be FAR more acceptable than the shittier in-house re-master.Soul wrote:If they can't use the DBox masters...

I dunno. If they had any dignity, the only use they could get out of those masters is burying them in a landfill and denying they ever existed when asked.pjay wrote:It would actually be pretty smart of Funimation to do it that way to get some more use out of the remastered footage.
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

They shouldn't bury the Orange Box masters in just any landfill, it should be the landfill in New Mexico along with all the E.T. The Extra Terrestrial Atari 2600 game cartridges.Gaffer Tape wrote:I dunno. Re: FUNimation and Toei announce online streaming of DBZ!
Hey now, a means to an end. It is probably thanks to the sales of that crappy Season Set masters that they were able to even afford the Dragon Box masters. At least that's a popular theory. So no... no. And I can say I contributed to the cause... even though I have all of them and haven't watched any of them since the third "Season." I guess I just collected them to have the whole thing (I hate not having a complete collection once I start something). As far as Dragon Ball and GT go... I have all of the Season Sets but except for checking out the quality here and there, really haven't watched any of them. Damn, I just gave them free money! lol
Anyway, I have a strong feeling they'd use the original masters, not the "remastered" crap. Even on their official website, the pictures are still of the old masters with the crazy brightness and zoomed in footage.

Re: FUNimation and Toei announce online streaming of DBZ!
FUNimation may consider the aspect ratio more important than the quality of the footage even if it is just for the sake of modernity. There is also the rumor that the Dragonboxes may be of limited production. Might this turn out to be true it wouldn't make sense to recruit new buyers with that particular stream and then provide them with limited stocks.....

If they set those bricks free it will be the end of all of us.. Noooooooooooooooooooo!
But in all seriousness, this is perfect for college fans who don't have or don't want to lug dvds back to school.

And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.
Re: FUNimation and Toei announce online streaming of DBZ!
What I was trying to get at was that the streaming should be the last use of those remasters EVER! Then they should just torch those masters.Gaffer Tape wrote:I dunno. I always hated this theory. It makes it sound like FUNimation's loyal customers are absolute gluttons.TheGreatness25 wrote:Hey now, a means to an end. I really don't see the reason why FUNimation wouldn't use the Dragon Box masters. They're clearly better looking than their previous ones, and they have the full rights to them.

We don't know that at all. What rights do they have? What are "full rights"...?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:and they have the full rights to them.

FUNimation payed Toei for the rights to the Dragon Box Z. You know what I mean. Maybe I used the wrong words, but there's no need to argue over semantics.VegettoEX wrote:We don't know that at all. Do they have the rights to do anything with the DBox material, or just to release the Dragon Box DVD set?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:FUNimation payed Toei for the rights to the Dragon Box Z. No, I don't know what you mean, and no, it's not a matter of semantics.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:FUNimation payed Toei for the rights to the Dragon Box Z. You know what I mean. Maybe I used the wrong words, but there's no need to argue over semantics.
Yes, FUNimation owns the rights to the Dragon Box masters of the DBZ TV series: in some capacity. Can they simply distribute it on home media like DVD? Is there a time limit on its distribution, or can it be renewed? Can they make any edits to the video material, or does it have to be presented "as-is" no matter what its end format is? To what extent does Toei have to approve anything based on these masters before it is released? Does the license apply to online streaming or just the home distribution?
We don't know any of these details, and to just toss it out there as fact that they have "full rights" to something (whatever that means) is just irresponsible.
