Did Gohan lose the Super Saiyan form?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

If he had a transformation, that would be a new form with its own maximum power, greater than his current power. Period. Thus, if he could transform, he would have, because it would have made him stronger.
Another form or not, it's still your own power.
Gohan's own full power was brought out beyond his limits. Not the limits of his normal state or a specific transformation, the limits of Gohan's overall power.
Transforming into another form of his own power wouldn't have done anything powerwise, since all his power & more was already brought out and placed into his Ultimate transformed state.
Which innately requires that he not have any transformations. Which is basically what I was saying.

I think people have two ways of looking at this. Some think that the characters transform, which enables them to bring out this hidden power; others kind of see it the other way, where the character has to awaken that hidden power, and that in turn triggers the transformation. I lean towards the latter myself, which is probably why I find the idea of Gohan being able to transform even though it wouldn't make him stronger hard to imagine. His power is already awake and active, so what could he do to trigger the transformation?

I tend to think of it like Gohan's power in his various forms being held in an assortment of containers. When his regular power isn't enough, he has to open the Super Saiyan box. When even that's not enough, the Super Saiyan 2 box gets opened next. But now he has all his power dumped together in one bigger box from which he can use as much as he needs. The other smaller boxes have been replaced by this bigger one and don't even exist anymore.

That's pretty much how I always thought of it. That power remains locked away until the next transformation is reached and the box can be unlocked.

I always thought that Gohan could have potentially transformed, but it simply wouldn't do any good. within Kaboom's analogy, he would be opening an empty box.

Agreed. I thought this was evident in the story anyway.

It was, but a lot of people seem to completely miss it. Perhaps because GT still has him transforming, or perhaps that old rumor that he didn't transform against Buu because it'd 'blow up the Earth' if he did, or maybe just because they aren't paying attention. :?
