We've told the run-of-the-mill fans that the dub score they love so much is on the orange sets so they shouldn't have even bitched about the lack of it on the Dragon Boxes. And what do they say? "Fuck that shit! We don't want that just on the orange boxes! We want it on the Dragon Boxes!"

It is attitudes like that that make me embarrassed to be an anime fan sometimes.

So Buu sounding like Elmo from Sesame Street was the result of an unrevised audio tape?

I always pictured the proper dub Buu sounding like Peter Lorre if it was any of FUNimation's intention.

Is it at all possible that this will be the Dragon Box footage in Blu-ray format?

I think I have a bit more faith in FUNimation for this release than most here. I've seen a few of their other anime upconverted to HD and they've all turned out pretty acceptable. Well, I guess none have been as old of footage as DBZ...

This all depends on if FUNimation tries, I think. Should they simply reuse the Brick footage, yes, this release will be an utter waste. But if they actually put in a little bit of elbow grease, this release could be really worth while.

As for which audio tracks will be included, everyone can be easily pleased. Enough room for the original Faulconer Score and for the original Japanese Dub. I just hope they don't use the "Can't decide what it is, FUNi Dub with JPN Music" track. IMO, that was complete garbage, throwing together a dub with incompatible music. The JPN music and dub were made for each other, as were the original FUNi Dub and the Faulconer Music. Please both fanbases by including both solid tracks.

Like many have said before, those of us (myself included) whose perfect release was the Dragon Box, we still have that and don't have to purchase these Blu-ray sets. But for those of us (again, myself included) who enjoys, or is nostalgic for the Faulconer Dub, but want proper encoding while maintaining the original aspect ratio, this could be a great release.

To each his own.

I don't think HD versions of DBZ even exist. :/

The movie blurays are VERY good in picture quality imo but I don't think we're going to get that type of quality here, cropped or not.

Seven or eight (somewhere in that ballpark) episodes of DBZ are as much HD as the movies are because they were originally printed on 35mm film.

Well, it’s certainly possible, but likely? It’s the same post house that did the Season Sets. I have to assume that this was part of their plan all along: scan the footage at HD, “remaster” it, sell it once downconverted to SD, then again a few years later as it was originally at HD. Boom, double profits.

I don't think they have access to those 35mm films, though. If my memory serves me correctly, FUNi didn't use them for the orange brick season 3.

While I wasn't aware of this, I'm not sure how this is relevant to be honest. FUNi will probably just do a similar process to the orange bricks in upscaling them.

This is not the way that works as far as digital is concerned.

Was a different group used to remaster Dragonball and Dragonball GT than the one used for Dragonball Z?

Well technically the the negatives have resolution comparable to HD, but the prints that Funi have are just going to look worse in that high of detail unless they invest in some very expensive remastering and repair.

I'm not buying this on Blu-ray. The only thing FUNi did right was bringing us the DragonBox for DBZ. Why not bring us DragonBall in DragonBox form?

If you knew that I wouldn't have had to correct your comment. And your post definitely doesn't suggest a 'joke' comment.

DB/GT had minor digital tweaks done in house.

Hey now there's nothing lame about DBZ in HD. DBZ in HD would be AMAZING.

However Funimation is handling this shit, so it won't be. But the actual concept of restoring the entire series to HD resolution is pretty damn good in my book.

Ah ok, now I know what you meant.

But that is the thing. The YouTube community holds your average/casual DBZ fan. If you go on YouTube, you'll find that most of the DBZ videos and comments are...*gasp* pro-dub. I don't understand when people here claim that Bruce Faulconer fans are a minority when it is the FIRST thing that pops up when you search "DBZ Soundtrack" on YouTube. Google: "DBZ Soundtrack", surprise Bruce Faulconer's music dominates the first page. Am I the only one getting these kind of results? Is it just me?

YouTubers are not the most knowledgeable, but like it or not, they are your average fan.

As far as this announcement is concerned, I think we should wait for more information and actual screenshots of the "remastered HD footage" before we pass judgement on the video quality. But, 17 episodes on the first set is very steep. Especially when you have the Dragon Box and the Season Sets available.

Eh, what are you talking about? Savage68 said some episodes of Z were printed on 35 film and such episodes would look as good as the double features. He just controvert an opinion of Luke Groundwalker by that fact. What's that irrelevant to this thread?
