Re: Dragon Ball Production Cels
Posted this in the recent purchase thread, but on July 21st, I received my first animation cel!

EDIT: also, I tried to take off the Vegetto layer, but it was stuck on, almost like it was glued off. Why are some cels like that? Just wondering.

Due to poor storage over the years, the paint will have gotten very hot and melted slightly; eventually sticking to the background when dry.
I've got two like that. It's best to just leave them alone if they're really stuck. Pulling at them will only damage the background.

Re: Dragon Ball Production Cels
So, considering buying another cel in addition to my Vegetto one which is currently being framed. I found one that's cool but I don't know where it's from.

Is this around the Buu arc? I know it says #162, but this seller has a ton and those numbers don't mean what episode they're from.

Re: Dragon Ball Production Cels
Probably a Shimanuki episode in the Cell arc. That's a wild guess, but it sure looks like it. Start looking around episode 180, maybe.

As a side note to the other people in this thread, the seller I bought my Vegetto cel from still has a lot more other ones. In fact, they ship super well too. The cel arrived earlier than I expected. Their ebay link is here. http://www.ebay.com/sch/syuju17/m.html? ... pg=&_from=
They also have cels from other anime if you want those, but the DB ones are great too.

That's actually from the battle against ghost warriors in Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.

Re: Dragon Ball Production Cels
It's been almost a year since I last bought a cel. Couldn't resist picking up this wonderful Studio Cockpit Gohan from episode 274. Probably drawn by Keisuke Masunaga, though the action cut around it makes me think it might just be Masa'aki Iwane. Tough call.

You could always try asking Iwane if that is his work on his BBS.Ajay wrote:It's been almost a year since I last bought a cel. It's a really lovely drawing, though.

Re: Dragon Ball Production Cels
oh damn, is this how animation used to work?Ajay wrote:Just a follow up as mine has actually arrived now. Took a quick snap on my phone so sorry about the quality.
Looks really fantastic. I want to get it framed but I'm not sure what's the best way to present it. I was initially thinking about having the drawing on the left and the cel on the right and, after having worked out which episode it's from, get an engraved part underneath saying something like 'Original Cel from Dragon Ball GT #<?>'.
Any other ideas?
I had no idea they did layers of stuff with transparency like that

Oh man, i would have dropped a very hefty dollar for that piece of history.bleed0range wrote:
I know the person who owns this cel and I tried so hard to get him to sell it. lol. This for me would be the only cel I would need.
For anyone who would like to browse the gallery he took down... there's still some working links of some of his amazing collection.

In my dream fantasy land, I would have procured the cel for this scene if it still existed somewhere, and travel to Japan and set up a meeting so I could convince Toriyama and some others to sign it.
Re: Dragon Ball Production Cels
Where can you buy these ? does Toei sell them on Amazon Japan ?
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: Dragon Ball Production Cels
They were originally auctioned off by Toei when each show ended.sintzu wrote:Where can you buy these ? does Toei sell them on Amazon Japan ?
Nowadays, unless you live in Japan and have access to certain stores, you can only pick them up on online auction sites like eBay, Mandarake, and Yahoo Auctions.
If you're at all in with the cel community, you can get some good deals through trading and private sales, but that's a lot rarer these days.
Keep in mind that the prices on eBay can be insanely bloated. Lotta fans trying to take advantage of people who don't understand the worth of some of these things there.

How much should one cost? How do I know a Cel is legitimate?Ajay wrote:They were originally auctioned off by Toei when each show ended.sintzu wrote:Where can you buy these ? does Toei sell them on Amazon Japan ?

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
