dbboxkaifan, could you take some screenshots of the Madman DVDs for episodes after 13? Since that's when FUNimation supposedly no longer got film masters.

Not sure I like the background colour on this one. I think the Blue was well suited for it. However I love how they have used the actual logo. I was going to get these sets and sell my US Funimation ones, but I heard these have some bad ghosting and not so great subtitles...

Also it says 5 Discs, Manga UK already said it was going to be 4 Discs... Although I remember Dragon Ball Z Season 2 having the same problem.

Looks cool but they should've dropped out the "Season" and "Digitally Remastered" thing, 'cause it's always good to have variety than having more of the same design (bricks layout).

I've been watching my DB Collection Part 1 and the picture quality looks great with each episode having its Japanese title card intact, but you were saying the subtitles weren't good? You mind giving some more detail?

This is what DB Collection Part 1 / DB UK Season look like:

Well I looked at this review here: http://www.toonzone.net/forums/anime-fo ... yzCM_l_t8E

They said that someone else did the Subtitles for the Saga Sets and they weren't as accurate as they could have been? Apparently some "unnecessary cursing"

When you watch your Madman sets do you notice ant ghosting in it? I hear these sets suffered from ghosting from the NTSC to PAL conversation.

I would have preferred if they were done by Mr. Simmons but even Simmons made grammar mistakes on the Bardock & Trunks TV-Specials as well as a few on the subs of the Dragon Boxes Z, but I suppose for more accuracy Simmons' subs are better.

Ghosting? I've been watching all of it on my Samsung LED and didn't notice any ghosting but some split second bad video compression otherwise it's a great collection which I gladly own (yet to purchase DB Collection Part 2 though).

Looks like we can't call GT the Yellow Bricks anymore. I would've preferred blue for this release, but at least they're using the original logo. Also, does the UK version really have the original Japanese episode title cards? Does UK GT have them as well?

The original logo is nice, but the colour scheme is actually quite ugly in my opinion. I prefered the blue.

Does anyone have any examples of the difference in all subtitling between these and the season sets?

Edit: actually the yellow is growing me...

Well they're certainly making an effort to make this release unique. Now the Bricks will go from Yellow to Orange to Yellowy-greenish. Based on what I've seen online there seems to be more interest in DB getting released than there was for GT. I hope it does well.

Well did Dragon Ball ever get a full TV airing here? If it did it must have been pretty low-profile, I don't remember watching it past the General Blue/Commander Red-ish saga on TV, so maybe it's the part of the series that people haven't really seen before?

UK releases:

DB = Saga sets repackaged as Blue... Yellow Bricks
DBZ = Orange Bricks
DBGT = Green Bricks

Manga UK licenced the Green Bricks from Madman rather than the GT Singles.

Yes it got about 2-3 full runs of the series in Blue Water dub. They even had promos for every new saga like they did with Z which is something they didn't do for GT. I was really disappointed when it got taken off. It was the beggining of the end for Toonami UK. Here's a cool promo they did for the Piccolo jr saga:

I noticed that on the episode "Arale Vs. General Blue" the title card was in English which I've read about previously although I was hoping it wouldn't be on my copy but it is, oh well the translation itself wasn't too far off though I'd have preferred to have seen in its original form.

Anyone thinking of purchasing these day one?
GT is slowly dropping in price, I guess I'll wait till next year and pick up GT with Dragon Ball 2nd hand.

The Banana Bricks do look quite nice but considering I've already gotten it and each BB costs £20 each for around £100-ish whereas the DB Collection Part 2 will be £44 and then I have the second and last part of Dragon Ball (£60-ish total so still a nice save of money to use elsewhere).

Maybe I should call it Yellow Bricks 'cause that's more fitting than Banana Bricks. :P

To be honest, either works but I'd pick Banana Bricks for the sheer comedic value.

Banana Bricks sounds more whimsical, which is what Dragon Ball has a lot of so it fits.

Oh no! They've caught on to the 'banana bricks' name! :lol: They seemed to take it the wrong way, but I tried to explain to them that it's not really a negative label.
