Saiyans have survived holes in the chest before. Goku did against Piccolo, Vegeta survived Krillin blowing a hole through him, and Broly himself survived being stabbed as a baby.
Sure it was serious, but I doubt that that's what killed him. Especially with Toei's bizarre fascination with sun-based deaths (see movies 4, 5, and GT.)
True but it clearly goes through the region where his heart is (assuming Saiyan hearts are on the left side)
Id assume that would kill him before the sun finished the rest.

It is not going "through"his body,if you look at the movie his body is exploding from the inside, there is a small one on his heart and a large one on his back.

The hole first appears in his front, then blows out through his back exactly in the same spot where the hole in the front is.

That's closer to where Vegeta was hit when Krillin blasted a hole through him, and he managed to hobble around for a while. And even if you don't count that, when Freeza shot him through the heart, he still managed to carry on a conversation with Goku before dying.
For what it's worth, Piccolo also survived being shot through the heart for a little while, at the end of the Freeza Arc.

I thought it was a little closer to Piccolo's shoulder than his heart. But do Namekians even have hearts? Or are they even in the same place as humans? They don't seem to have any discernible bone structure when they lose limbs.

Well, I figured it had to have hit some kind of vital organ to take out Piccolo like that. If it was just a flesh wound, a wound that size wouldn't be that critical. I guess it might be something other than a heart though.
Edit: Just checked, Freeza shot Piccolo right through the middle of his left pectoral, so it wasn't his shoulder.

At best, i'm willing to put M10 Broly on par with SSJ2 Goku even though I believe he's slightly weaker than SSJ2 Kid Gohan. I don't see why he should be any higher than that given Goku's statement in M11.
It also irks me when people say he's high SSJ2 tier when Goku tells Kaio he an Pikkin (who's not an SSJ2 tier fighter) that he'll go down in Hell and tear Broly a new one. This was all before SSJ3 was introduced so there's no way Goku can feel confident in all of this and lose miserably to Broly.
Also, I can see M8 Broly capping at FP Perfect Cell given his ability to tank a KHH from Goku. He should be more or less on this level.
