What do you hope not to see in Dragon Ball Super?

Uhh, he never did. Goku isn't the only one who gained cool tecniques and transformations. Every character in the series has a pretty cool technique and Goku only had 1 transformation that nobody else had and that was Super Saiyan 3.

But I think what Retan is trying to say is maybe not as much Goku, let someone else have an episode spotlight or get a new power up and I'll throw Vegeta in on that bus too cause he is slowly closing in on matching Goku for powering up.

Mosey over to the last page of the Heroes thread and look for my giant post with the GDM2 cards. There's a link to a how to play video, and about half way through it shows of the new techniques for the characters (God Kamehameha, God Final Flash, Golden Death Ball, Bull Tackle).

Really don't want to see a continuation of the post-28th Budokai stuff (really hoping it's retconned). I don't mind Uub as a concept, though I don't like many of the character designs in the epilogue (in general, epilogues in manga seem forced/tacked on, and it's hard to find a good fit...I don't think Dragon Ball's ending did that), and would prefer for the world to remain open-ended.

Cause we're talking Toei, a company that went cheap on DB Kai and Sailor Moon Crystal, 2 of their biggest global franchises. Nothing's 'safe' and secured to have high budget when it comes to Toei, they will cut corners on literally everything they possibly can

Not to mention One Piece, they're biggest cash cow in Japan, also gets very limited budget most of the time and it shows quite blantly how much they cut corners at times.

My biggest fear is that there will only be token attempts at doing something different at best and at heart we'll mostly be getting more of the same- same black and white characters and morality, same basic plot flow, and more transformations. However, I'm also worried that we've either reached or aren't far from reaching the point where in order to do something truly different with this story, you would have to go so far outside the box that that it would start to not feel like Dragon Ball anymore. At this point I feel like I'm the type of fan that's to Dragon Ball what Mario fans that want more story in the main games are- the fan asking for something that the series doesn't do. I'd like a more complex story out of Dragon Ball (IE, more stuff like Bardock TV Special), but I know we're not gonna get that because Dragon Ball doesn't do complex.

I'm also afraid that this will result in more pointless retcons from Toriyama.

I'm also not very hopeful for the animation quality, or the art style for that matter. Every time I look at Cockpit or Junio stuff, I just think in my head, "this is what Dragon Ball is supposed to look like". Then I look at modern DB stuff with the really stiff animation and "shiny" aesthetic, and it depresses me...

...Because, I liked when DB was gritty and more morbid. I liked when things weren't all happy-go-lucky and sparkly and super saccharine.

Let's be real. The series doesn't have to do a complex story to be good. But I am afraid it will keep the more light hearted tone of bog. Which is fine, but not all the time. I'd really like the tone of the saiyan to cell arc to return. It could be goofy here and there but I'd rather it not be all the time. Heck I would even take the time of the boo arc over what I am really expecting. At least there was a legimiste doomsday threat they were all afraid of and they treated it seriously with a mixture of the humor Toriyama loves.

...does anyone think Beerus may have been a step in the right direction regarding grey morality?

Maybe I'm too hopeful, but I'm hoping a lot more of the 'villains' from here on aren't going to be evil for evil's sake.

On topic: I really hope we don't get a character introduced purely to showcase a particular skill. I felt like Goten only existed so fusion could be showcased. I don't really want any more characters like that.

Also I don't want to see Goten get sidelined and do nothing. I'd like to be shown there's more to his existence than Trunks' fusion buddy and an excuse to draw Kid Goku again.

- More cyborgs from Dr. Gero
- Nephilim (overdone in most fictional stories in my opinion)
- Old villains returning. Freeza was fine, but let's not do it again.

The only time Goku was really hogging the spotlight was in GT and that ended in 97. Since then we had nothing new in the franchise until 2013 with Battle Of Gods.
