I'm fairly sure we'll at least have an option for them. I mean Atari did put an option for them in the American version of Sparking and they owned up to that whole GH B3 fiasco which in and of itself should have made them finally realize that there are American DBZ fans that aren't complete dumbasses.Kendamu wrote:I like that Cha-La Head Cha-La opening!
I hope the Japanese voices are in the American version as well.

I got my copy from Play in the post this morning, and for the £17.99 I paid for it, I can't complain with anything I've seen or played so far.
I like Budokai 3 and I really liked Sparking/Budokai Tenkaichi at first, though it really lost its appeal quickly, after playing those games it's nice to be playing a relatively gimmick free straight shooting DBZ fighting game. I love the manga-inspired look of the game, and it's really fun to play as a beat-'em-up in it's own right, throwing in the DBZ flavouring only makes it that much better.
Two thumbs up, and at the budget price it's been released at (at least in Europe), playing it feels even more satisfying.

It depends on your setup. I have a modified U.S. PS2 for my imports, and a Pioneer plasma television. It looks just as good as any NTSC game. Of course, it has a 60hz mode which helps.m121akuma wrote:Is there a place where I can import games from the UK? Although it'll probably look like shit in the US, since it's PAL, won't it? Cuz that budget price sounds mighty tempting.
Oh, and the game ships today, it won't be on shelves more than likely. Wait until tomorrow, save yourself a headache.

I wouldn't count on getting it until tomorrow, unless you live in a city like New York where they seem to get things on the day they ship. But around here in Florida, anyway, I know it won't be in until tomorrow.theoriginalbilis wrote:Holy molee, Super DBZ comes out in US stores today, Tuesday, 7/18... Yeah, I just called my local EB Games, & they pretty much told me that the game was shipping today. They won't have it in stock until Wednesday. So "theoriginalbilis", your best bet is to preorder it at your local EB Games & wait for it until tommorow, unless you can find a gaming store that already has in stock. Either way, good luck.tigerwiccan wrote:I wouldn't count on getting it until tomorrow, unless you live in a city like New York where they seem to get things on the day they ship. Just wanted to say that I finally have the game. I made a Goku character card and played a few fights against my brother, who made a Vegeta card. I have to say that I love this game. It will take some more getting used the controls, though. It's not exactly like street fighter. As a matter of fact, some moves are done in ways more reminiscent of certain Neo-Geo fighters. Like to go Super Saiyan, you have to do a backward half circle then forward and either punch or kick. Also, the dashing and jumping is nothing like a Street Fighter game. But I think the gameplay is really solid and there is definite room for skill here, unlike certain games where you just have to guess what button the other is pressing.

Here are my thoughts of the game so far. While I generally don't mind the style of gameplay, the controls sometimes annoy the hell outta me. Their very intuitive & sensitive, but that goes with any traditional 2-D or 2-D stylized fighter. The gameplay itself is very intelligent & does require strategic ways to beat your enemy, but that makes it all the more fun. Each character has their respective strengths & weaknesses to exploit & use to your advantage. The music in the game is really cool & appropiate for an arcade fighter. I enjoy a lot & its a nice departure from the Budokai series of games. The graphics, although can get a bit giltchy at times (slowdowns etc.,), are very unique. The manga style graphics are more a welcome & even though it doesn't measure up to the likes of Budokai 3 ( & even Sparking....I guess), I still prefer this style the best because its an obvious homage to Akira Toriyama's manga, in which I prefer over the anime series.
My Overall Conclusion: Get the game (eventually). It should be in any respective fighting gamer's library & even DBZ Fans. Even if you don't play it that much, it's game worth having & supporting because much thought was put into this game. Crafts & Miester needs our support as fighting game fans & DBZ fans. I'd also reccommend you get at Circuit City (as mentioned by another forum member) when they have their sale for the game at $29....or you can just import it if your dissapointed by the absence of the Japanese voice overs (here's to hoping its unlockable).

I got the game (American version) yesterday and allowed myself to test it out a little bit, which turned out to be three hours! I know it may be too early to make such a statement but I got to: I LOVE THIS GAME!
The gameplay and controls is somewhat new to me since I haven't played games like Street fighter II at least a decade, but it was easy to learn and fun at that. I like the fact that each character has their own unique sets of speical moves and cominations, as well as the 'skill tree' feature that allows you unlock new hidden moves, and powers unique to that character.
I also enjoy the Z-survival game and Dragon summoning feature, which I found more conveinant in gathering the Dragon balls and gaining wishes then that of Budokai Tenkaichi and even Budokai 3, wishes consisting of new outfits, characters, skills, and 'stealing' of other characters' skills as well.
Now to join the growing majority, I was also surprise and 'initially' disappointed that the game's opitions didn't include that of switching to a japanese voice Dialogue, like with 'BT' and 'B3:GH', and also considering that atari/funimation know of the popularaity of the opition. However I then realized that I personally find such features secondary compared to gameplay and overall look of the game, so the lack of such can be tourated by me, and my wallet (Importing!). Although I'm still hoping that it's a unlockable wish or something.
So if you're a strong fan of DBZ, and can potential do without the Japanese voice opition and save money on importing in the process (like me), then you shouldn't be overall dissappointed.

I just got it today (I couldn't wait for a sale, I WANTED IT NOW!) and so far I've played thorugh the arcade mode as Kuririn & Goku. The controls are pure fighting game, and are MUCH more intuitive and easy to learn/play. I had no trouble jumping into it.
I think this will get a healthy amount of replay amongst me and my fighting-game friends.
And yes, it is disappointing that the US release has no Japanese voice option, but I'm willing to bet that it'll be on the "Greatest Hits" version *bleeeh*... maybe it's an unlockable somehow. Oh well. In summary: nice graphics, fun controls & gameplay, good replay value = $40 well spent.
Chao!

IGN's video review....with Japanese voices? What the hell? Did they get a copy of the European version, or is there something we're missing here?

I got the game yesterday. For what it is, a port of an arcade fighter with extras, I am very pleased. It is a different type of fighting game than Budokai 3 GH (My current favorite DBZ fighting game) I like that it has its own unique style. Being a long time Street fighter fan and player, I dove right in and picked up the controls fairly easily.
For DBZeque battles with in game power up and transformations, I'd still go with Budokai 3 over this. For combos, fun to use controls, Manga style graphics, and faster paced fighting game bliss, I'd go with this over Budokai 3. I would dare say the true DBZ/fighting game fan should own both games and enjoy either depending on thier mood or type of player thier friend is that may be joining them for 2 player action.
I love the big VVVVVVVVV!!!! that come up on screen when you do super moves and such. I honestly felt like I was playing out pages from the Manga in 3D. I like the semi-destructible environments too.
The computer player can do some crazy shit when he gets in a bind. I look forward to figuring out how to do some of the moves I've had used on me so far!
Even though it has only been a day, I will go on out on the limb and say that I am pleased with this game and enjoy it quite well.
Any fan should have both of these games in thier collections. As I have them listed on my PS2 HDD Game selection menu:
-Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 SE
-Dragonball Z: Super Arcade
I imagine I will buy Tenkaichi Budokai 2 as well when it comes out, but I am not expecting much from that game. The first one was fun for a couple days then it got stagnant real quick. The two games I listed above are the ones to have and hold on to. You can skip the rest in my opinion.

The review copy that got sent to the press (and was leaked to the net, I had it for a week or so) actually was the European version, though it was tweaked for the final release. That's more than likely what they had.m121akuma wrote:http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/769/769480/vids_1.html

EDIT: Yeah, that's what they used. No subtitles for the pre/post fight banter, but Japanese voices = preview version.

I got my American-release this afternoon. I don't mind the dub voices at all, since I got hooked on DBZ from the dub so long ago. I had to take a break, though.
Too many hours of rolling my thumb in circular motions over controls...
Now I get the amusing little warning that pops up when the game starts!
From now on, I will, indeed, take a 15 minute break every hour and play this video game in a well-lit room.

While were on that subject, I would like to say that this is why I didn't like the game so much. I cannot, for my LIFE, pull off any moves intentially.(If I just mash random buttons while rolling the joystick I can, but who wants a broken controller?) I mean, what the heck was Goku's SSJ Transformation? Up, down, right, left, Up, Triangle, Square, Left, Up, Right, Right, Left, Down(X∞), run around the block, kiss your neighbors wife, shave your cat, run back, and press R2?!(Okay, I exaggerated a little bite.) I mean, that is great in the arcades, but it is a lot harder on consoles!
Oh well, thats my opinion. Geez, am I a whiner....
