Actually, it did feel force because Goku was removed from the story and was only used as a plot device.
Yes, this is in particular from the Android arc onward, the whole convoluted way Toriyama went to take Goku out, the heart virus, and wrote Goku like the absolute stupidest he ever had "I won't take the medicine right now as there is nothing wrong with me" WTF Goku. Goku got written out in the Saiyan and Namek out quite naturally but after it definitely felt forced, and the Buu arc Goku was a literal plot device for anything his behaviour in that arc was unbelievable he'd go from 0-100 quickly, for example he was pro-Fusion for the majority arc and then decides "nah fusion isn't for me" and then a few seconds later starts saying "Oh we should have beat you as Vegetto" and I am there pulling my hair out.
Another reason why this series should've been put down like the Third Reich after Namek
I know that Toriyama wanting to end it at the Freeza arc is a rumour, but I can't help believe that some of it is true at least, the series just dropped in such quality from the Freeza arc to the Android arc onwards, I am re-watching the Android arc via Kai again and man there are just sooo many sloppy moments. I dunno if it was the editors not letting him tell the story he wanted or if Toriyama's heart wasn't in it anymore and was treating it more as a job but something just seemed off.

Quite the assumption there.
Yeah god forbid they actually develop Vegeta instead of treating him like an asshole he was in the Cell arc off training while his wife is pregnant.

When Super apparently shoves Goku down our throats:

HeroR wrote:The characters in Super can work with Goku and they're treated like equals to him. Goku just being in the room doesn't take away from the character. In Z, the characters were so depended on Goku that they couldn't go an episode without mentioning him in some way even by hoping he will arrived, get better, training to get stronger, our last hope, being like him, ect. Goku was wanked to hell in Z, even when he wasn't in the room and everyone else was secondary to him. In fact, this was a major issue Goku had, which is why he didn't want to do anything in the Buu Saga.

I don't really what the issue is with Goku making some kind of appearance in most episodes in the Tournament Of Power. I mean, he is the main character and the plot of the entire arc was single-handedly kick started by him, so it would seem natural for the guy who has always been the central focus of the main story of Dragon Ball and instigator of the current arc to get some kind of screen-time. And even with most of the screen-time he may get in some episodes, it doesn't from the main focuse that other characters get. Characters like Krillin, Android 18, Android 17, Kale, Caulifla, the Pride Troopers, the Kamikaze Fireballs, Hit, Piccolo and Gohan and even Roshi still get their respective focus in their respective episodes without Goku disrupting the flow of it, even if he makes an appearance.

Are you trying to be funny or something? Piccolo has had about 15 seconds just like Tien and Frieza.

I think it was about the 15 seconds of action. He mostly just stood around and commented.
Again, no one is disputing Goku is the main character.
But from a writing perspective, you can write it one of two ways. Either have Goku kicking ass early on and involving himself in most bouts with most the screentime and then have him lose shockingly and ironically, OR you keep him low key at the start, and reveal the big transformation to the audience with the promise of big things to come from him.
What they're doing is having their cake and eating it too. Both having Goku overpower a lot of people early on, and they spoiled the transformation. The reason that doesn't work is because we now know he won't have a shock defeat. From any of these guys. So what's the point in watching him beat them? Why would a writer focus on the character who essentially has godmode cheats enabled until he gets to the part that's been spoiled or us?
And you can't say merchandise, because DBZ is what took Goku over the top to begin with. Where he wasn't shown off nearly as much.
I don't understand what the writers are hoping to achieve by doing it the way they are.

Maybe its part of Toriyamas outline, if it happens the same in the manga, then it will be all Toriyama..
Maybe he is hogging the spotlight a little bit, but - hey , he is Goku, the main character of the show, right? As for other animes - yes, the main protagonist doesn't has to be always around but not in DB.
Also, Vegeta with Frieza are probably being saved for something bigger so if you are either Vegeta or Frieza fan, you should just wait a little bit more.
I'm absolutely not tired of Goku.
Goku's the only one keeping me invested this arc (I've got no idea what's going on with Vegeta). I'm excited for that new blue+silver transformation.
When he's around, Freeza steals the show, but he's been vanished for what feels like a while now. He's not high up on my favorites, but they've been writing him really well ever since they brought him back for this arc so at the very least Freeza's entertaining.
Goku's presence in Super is nothing compared to GT. GT is terrible with Goku. Super made me like him more and made him a more interesting character even with some inconsistent hiccups lol
Zamasu is the best DB villain besides Freeza (and this is only the case because the current Super arc elevated Freeza to be that good).
Now I'm not saying I completely agree, but sometimes Goku's presence is a tad overbearing: I mean what has Tien been doing in this tournament; why hasn't Frieza tortured the U6 Saiyans; where is Vegeta; what happened to 18? And even when there are supposed other characters as the "main focus", they only come off as 2nd best to what Goku does in the same episode...

Holy shit, this. GT Goku was a nightmare of a character who actively stopped other characters from participating in fights so he could do things himself. The only times I can recall Super Goku doing something like that are in the RoF and Copy Vegeta arcs when he sent Goten and Trunks away. He'll team up with or fight just about anyone.
Goku's putting in face time but he hasn't eliminated anyone since he and Vegeta took out the Trio de Dangers in episode 98. We're going to get Goku either way so I'd rather have him engaged in the plot doing things than kept on the sidelines by writer fiat with viewers and characters waiting for his inevitable return.
Because he's been presented completely OOC (manga) or shoe-horned into every fight (anime). Give the guy a break. I loved Goku throughout Z because they didn't shove him down our throats despite being the MC.

Hit and 17, most recently.

I'll agree that Goku more or less stopped others from fighting was infruiating, in no way do I see how Goku became more interesting in Super. He's become annoying.

Give two examples?
Examples of overbearing Goku / underwhelming side cast:
1. the Gohan-Piccolo episode; whilst they did have some focus from the 9 minute point, in my opinion Gohan and Piccolo's battles came of more underwhelming than Goku and 17's in the previous episode, but thats just me pulling at strings for those two, hoping they contribute a fair amount
2. the Hit episode, this is slightly debatable but I think as soon as Goku arrived in SSG, he hijacked the fight/ stole the limelight and the focus was less of what genius way does Hit get out of this predicament but how cool is Goku, he can mix Blue and Red and he can just fly through the Kunshi's minefield, which Hit didn't do for some reason. Then again Hit's time skip feints were quite cool, so I'm not too salty but some of the stuff seems like they have to have to make other characters shine less so Goku can shine more when I think it should be everyone looking good, so the ToP looks better, because it's been about a 6/7 so far for me anyways.
3. 17

Goku in SSJG mode was nothing compared to Dyspo, and in Blue mode he couldnt do serious damage to Kunshi, while Hit needed a total of 2 attacks to send him out of the ring, overall Hit shined more than Goku.
And before we saw Goku not breaking Coccotes barrier while Kale and Caulifla did, and what about jobbing to Tupper in order to make 18 look good?
In 102 Goku fought Su Roas for 37 seconds and didn't get anywhere with her. Meanwhile 17 knocked out two of the other fighters in spectacular fashion and ease, cementing himself as a fan favorite from this arc. Continuing into 103, he fights with Ribrianne and shows no sign of being overwhelmed. Meanwhile, Goku's still fighting Su Roas. 17 is so nonplussed by Ribrianne that he jumps in to defend Goku from Su Roas.
Goku can't have any presence if this ranks as overshadowing.
Goku did worse against Dyspo than Hit did. It seemed like he had his number, but the last thing we saw of their fight was Goku being knocked back and Dyspo standing there with a cocky/confident attitude. Then Hit takes over and completely dominates him. And he takes down Kunshi, who he also tactically dominated earlier.

While I definitely wouldn't mind a break from Goku, I agree with you that he's where most of my investment is in this saga at the moment. I'm pretty excited for Freeza and Gohan too as well, as they're the only U7 characters (Goku, Freeza, Gohan in that order) that I have any investment in this saga.
