Is the composition of the Universe Survival arc terrible?

It would have been way better if every universe had at least one good fighter at least SSB Kaioken level and if they had given Goku less focus. In DBZ, there were lots of episodes without Goku and the show was better because of it.

If Every universe had 1 fighter at SSB Kaioken level, then only Goku would be fighting them. That would have been even worse.

I agree, not every character has to be God level, weakers characters are necessary to make good use of others too, but I wish this tournament wasn't so linear: and we had stronger characters accidentally killing weaker ones (because in a Battle Royale you cannot always measure your opponent strenght) and being desqualified because of it.

Horrible pacing, fake to no tension most of the times, focus on characters we don't know scrap about, too many rushed episodes, no coherent build up... And once every blue moon we get a fantastic episode.
Fighting and animation is rather good. What infuriates me is they've shown to be QUITE CAPABLE of delivering GREAT Dragon Ball when they want to, as seen with UI, Roshi's episodes, U2's erasure and a few other things.
So I never know if I need to be hyped or expect the worst between each week, with a probability of not even being disappointed most of the times because mediocre in this arc has been the norm. They better make the last U7 vs U11 worth it to save this arc.

Yeah, that's a complaint that will probably be voiced more often when people review the ToP as a whole. They made it a battle royal, so things should happen in parallel. The pictures on screen tried to convey this a little bit by occasionally showing that some other fights are happening at the same time, but the writing was done the same way previous tournaments were written: sequentially. A sequence of new enemies presented to have them eliminated by the main cast. Why, for example, do Goku and Vegeta eliminate an entire universe right in the beginning? Those two would get plenty of glory later. We could have seen Dyspo bolt in superspeed between three from the Trio of Dangers, throwing them all out, before they knew what hit them. That would have a long way to establish him and his superspeed as a serious threat and it also would have cut away from U7 and enhanced the feeling of a battle royal with more stuff going on than whatever the main cast is up to.

I concur. Bad thing they said it was a "battle royale". Good thing they called it "Tournament of Power", because It felt like more of a tournament with elements of a battle royale rather than an actual battle royale.
