I don't know what you mean, because Gokuu clearly says "Ma-jin Buu" in the original japanese dialogue, with the meaning of the dialogue being basically what Thanos6 posted.Onikage725 wrote:Um... it's been a long time since I've seen it, I'll admit... so maybe later in the movie he says something...Thanos6 wrote:Actually, that was in the Japanese Movie 12, at least according to all the subtitles I've ever seen for it. "You're the second one to have pushed me this far, after Majin Buu."Why is Goku talking about Buu?
But the scene in question here he just said "Now it's a fight" or "The real fight starts now" depending on the subber (I havent seen Simmons' version yet, but you can verbally hear a lack of the word "Buu" in that scene).
Why is Freeza's dub voice so hated?

I made a whole point about that earlier and that isn't entirely true. The actual voice a person has is genetic, but the manner in which a person talks is shaped by experiences. I mean yeah, not every evil person (or almost any really) talk in your typical anime deep voice. But Freeza's voice isn't stereotypically evil. His voice isn't deep, outside of his two monstrous forms, and his manner of speech (before he loses control) is generally very polite. These are indications of his character. Contrast that with when he's at 100% power and he's speaking in a rougher, vulgar, and more boastful manner. He loses his temper and his voice (or rather, his tone of voice and the pitch he uses, and the way he chooses to express himself) reflect that. Dub Freeza sounds like a chain-smoking grandmother, and is sort of polite but tends to fall into FUNi's standard insults and puns standard of villainy. 100% Freeza sounds like normal Freeza taking it in the ass. The voice sounds wrong and the character's nuances just aren't delivered as well.Rocketman wrote:Voices are independent of one's character.Mystic Jack wrote:I think its because the japanese voice suits the character so much more. Yeah you're right, sorry about that. Like I said, it's been awhile since I saw it, and not any of the fansubbers ever wrote it for some reason. I also had two sets of ears check the scene for me, and I listened to one over the phone and we didnt hear that.Thanos6 wrote:Thank you.Darkprince410 wrote:I don't know what you mean, because Gokuu clearly says "Ma-jin Buu" in the original japanese dialogue, with the meaning of the dialogue being basically what Thanos6 posted.Onikage725 wrote: Um... it's been a long time since I've seen it, I'll admit... so maybe later in the movie he says something...

But I just watched it myself on megavideo and he does say it. Sorry about that. So kudos to the dub on script, points still off on ridiculous music and Janenba having two names.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

I think what he or she meant was that sometimes the voice can be whatever someone thinks of if they're reading the manga. An example or so would be if a person is reading Batman, and they read his dialogue without thinking of Kevin Conroy's voice.Onikage725 wrote:I made a whole point about that earlier and that isn't entirely true. If so, that's an entirely seperate issue from "Why is Freeza's dub voice so hated" or the answer or Mystic jacks' answer that the japanese voice is better suiting.Super Sonic wrote:I think what he or she meant was that sometimes the voice can be whatever someone thinks of if they're reading the manga. Please tell me you're a female, single, and live somewhere in the nothern US. That's usually how I describe Funi's VAs when I'm arguing with dumbass dubbies on IMDB: Forced and over the top. I usually use the example of Fat Buu to get my point across since they did just about everything wrong with him vocal wise .Kunzait_83 wrote:Dameon... eh... has his moments I guess. I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I don't like it because he sounds like an old lady. His original voice makes him sound like a douchebag, which fits his character well. I actually always thought that he sounded just like Mayuri from Bleach, and then I looked up that it was in fact the same seiyuu. I guess that guy is good at doing the voices of douchebags...

With me, it was the opposite. Heard Mayuri's Japanese voice and noticed he sounded like Frieza. Heck, for a long time before I knew his name, I referred to him as just "Masked Frieza". Don't call him that anymore as I know his name, and have gotten used to Terrence Stone as him.Bomber Greek wrote:I don't like it because he sounds like an old lady. Don't know if anyone else here watches Zatch Bell, but when I first heard Zofis, thought he reminded me as a mixture of dub Frieza and Wuya from Xiaolin Showdown (likely because the latter's VA does his voice).

Well, you see, I used to be a dubbie before I started to watch Bleach subbed. I saw all the Bleach dubbed episodes, and I honestly couldn't wait any longer. Now I'm a subbie. But, I never liked cut anime. I've always held a grudge against it. I also hated the American music. So, you could say I was part dubbie part subbie. Also, (sorry I talk so much) I'm a REALLY new anime fan. I kind of started in April.

You may be right there since he also voiced Iizuka from the Kenshin OAV. XDBomber Greek wrote:I don't like it because he sounds like an old lady. And BomberGeek, don't feel embarassed or anything about being new to anime. We all started out that way once.^^

Yeah, I know that. When I was talking about the music changes, I was talking about animes such as Dragon Ball Z and One Piece. No, Bleach doesn't have anything cut in the dub. I'm really glad that it was treated respectfully.Super Sonic wrote:Bomber Greek wrote:Well, you see, I used to be a dubbie before I started to watch Bleach subbed. I just started watching Dekaranger, and i turns out he's the main villain on that show (Broodwing is the Power Rangers SPD equivolent, even though he's the secondary villain there). It adds a little extra to my enjoyment of the show. He's using like a slightly more sinister version of his Freeza voice (well I guess used, since the show's like 3 years old). Kinda sounds like Coola actually.Bomber Greek wrote:I don't like it because he sounds like an old lady. His original voice makes him sound like a douchebag, which fits his character well.
