I believe in that of you are going to hate something, to that extent that you put time and effort to making a home-page about it, that you should at least give it an honest shot, by maybe trying out the different forms.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Another interpretation is that people are entitled to their opinions when it comes to purely subjective matters, and they aren't necessarily slobbering neanderthals if they don't dive into a franchise in every form that exists to see if they enjoy THAT version of something they didn't like in another form.Wojak wrote:Because of that people rather are glued in front of the TV nowadays instead of reading letters in book-form.TheGreatness25 wrote:Because most people are exposed to the Anime first, and THEN go for the Manga. But if they didn't like the Anime, why even go there? Besides, I doubt if they picked up the Manga they'd go, "Ooh! This is actually really good!"
It's too hard to do.
You can see it on their spelling too.
Someone that follows anime and manga should know that there can be differences them between that alters them to such a degree that you may dislike one of them.
The same goes for books and movies based on books.
It's like tasting one kind of mushroom and then claiming that you hate all kinds of mushrooms. There are different kinds of mushrooms and there can likely be one that tastes in the way that you like.
And yes, putting Dragonball aside (since my fanboy days were over years ago), I think that people that hate things so easily without knowing much about the matter are slobbering neanderthals with opinions.
It's a shônen show, made for young boys.Krakabeast wrote:DragonBall is a kid's show?Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote: Hell, I'm on a forum SPECIFICALLY discussing a kid's show from Japan that is 20 years old.

Can't be. We like it, and we're men. We're manly men. Except for the women here. They are womenly women. We would not be a part of a fandom for a mere children's television show. I guffaw at that concept, and I shall now go shave my luscious, manly mustache.Krakabeast wrote:DragonBall is a kid's show?Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote: Hell, I'm on a forum SPECIFICALLY discussing a kid's show from Japan that is 20 years old.

Dragon Ball Z is EXTREME and thus is for EXTREME BADASSES. They just censor out the gore, violence, swearing and hardcore sex scenes. In Japan you needed a psychiatric evaluation before watching to make sure it wouldn't make you BITE SOMEONES FACE OFF with all the adrenalin running through your veins from the most hardcore, gangsta show ever made.

Never even knew those sites existed.
The fact that people tried to ban the show is madness. Why? How can Satan have made the show? Most people that say this crap are hypocrites, I bet they don't even believe in God and still claim Satan made it.
Yea, it is also a show for young boy's, it's action and cool, and the reason why a lot of people like it (including me) is because I don't remember and animated series being as good when I was that age (well, really I was roughly the right age at the time of it's airing in Japan, when it started here I was a bit older), so it's like you wanna go back in that mind frame to enjoy it, then realise that you don't need to as it actually is good to watch, whether young or old.
Dragonball is a lot ruder than DBZ with the dialogue and flash scenes, but DBZ is bloodier, and more on the serious side.

I never knew using a phrase maligned by both dub and sub fans alike as a one sentence foot note to a post was complete dub bashing. But let it not be said that I am unopen to your needs, I will edit out the horrible offensive, disgustingly derisive and morally repugnant line.SSJ2bardock wrote:That was uncalled for man, this is about Dragonball Z hater websites not you making fun of the dub.
In an earlier thread people were doubting that random and completely off-topic dub bashing took place here.... see exhibit A

Yeah, it was. I was going to put in a "candy-ass faggot" in my post but I thought that would make things a bit too obvious. It was a play on the whole "DB is a kids show?" thing.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:The large majority of Sprite Satan's post was really more of a bash on an Anime Labs mentality rather than a dub one, anyway. =p
Rock the Dragon is deliciously OTT anyway, so I thought I was safe with mentioning it. I didn't count on it being the hot button this week.

...yes, and it was referring to the idea that the Japanese version is some gory, bloody, super manly adult show for the grown-ups. With all the "Candy-Ass Faggot" and whatnot you find in Anime Labs subs. O_o;;SSJ2bardock wrote:It was the "ZOMFG the show is X-TREME!" that I was talking about, randomly flaming the dub out of nowhere was just very... random.
I think you're misinterpreting and over-reacting, here.
The whole "Is Dragon Ball a children's show?" thing probably stems from the lack of an agreed upon definition for what constitutes a children's show. Is it simply a show that kids would get the fullest enjoyment out of (As in... well, Dragon Ball - I still love the series, largely for reasons that I wouldn't have as a kid, but there's no doubt that I'd have become more deeply immersed in the story at 11 or 12), or something that you'd be hard-pressed to enjoy very much once past childhood (Teletubbies, Dora the Explorer, your average Saturday morning cartoon, etc)? The second comes across as more insulting, and I think that some people who get offended at the idea of Dragon Ball being a kid's show might be operating under that definition.

lol Some of this stuff was funny. Anyways...
Back to the Manga thing. Thing is, DBZ was on TV. It was really easy to access it. I've been a DBZ fan for so long and honestly, the only way I was ever exposed to the Manga was if I went out and looked to buy it. The TV show was easily accessible, so that's what most people see first. The ones who get the Manga are ones who specifically look to buy it. That's why you can't blame DB/Z haters for discussing how they hate the Anime, because that's easily accessible. If they hated it, why would they specifically go out looking to buy the Manga? Now that would make no sense. Spend all that money just for that? I made a clear and conscious decision a long time ago that I was going to invest my money into the Anime and if I got a chance to get a REALLY GOOD version of the Manga (translated of course because I don't read Japanese, and meaning that it is accurately translated and uncensored), then great, but if no such version exist, screw it. Why put money into it if I have the show on DVD uncut? I really do technically, switch it over to the Japanese version and it's gold. That's why I don't personally have the Manga and I've been a fan for almost 13 years. Why on Earth would a hater of the show go out and buy the Manga? That would make less sense to me.

So Animaniacs isn't a kid's show anymore, either?Dr. Casey wrote:The whole "Is Dragon Ball a children's show?" thing probably stems from the lack of an agreed upon definition for what constitutes a children's show.
