The first Dragon Ball Season Set includes 31 episodes on 5 DVDs with more than 745 minutes of uncut action. The Season Set releases will feature an aspect ratio of 4:3, English and Japanese language options, and the original Japanese musical score in 5.1 Surround.
What is the source of this quote? It's not on that liveblog.

That quote is from what appears to be an official press release for these sets, and it says that the episodes will be in fullscreen.

So we just have to decide which one we trust more: an official press release or an official rep. It is frustrating indeed.

That's funny considering that the freakin' trailer is 4:3.

Question for he forum. How much was volume 1 of DBZ suppose to be back in 07? Was it compareable to the price of Dragonball Season 1. It seems slightly more expensive than the Z and GT sets.

It's the same price.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

It will most probably drop to 24.99 on Amazon if you're willing to wait.

Thats great. I was afeared it was going be stuck at the same price point as shows like Case Closed. I would still buy it. But it would be a large chunk out of my ass.

Well, don't reps sometimes have bad info? I think I'll go with the trailer and the official press release.

He responded, "Like the DBZ sets, it's going to be widescreen."
FUCK. What the hell? The former report of the set being Fullscreen better be real, or there will be Hell to pay!
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

We have like 2 Sources (Trailer being in 4:3, Press Release) Saying the series will be Fullscreen
I want to believe it's gonna be Fullscreen. That's what I'm believing until we get more info...

Damn conflicting reports. *grumble grumble*

FUNimation, for Gods sake, NO MORE FAKE WIDESCREEN. We like SEEING THE FOOTAGE. >.<

Sure I can "put up with it" on the two DBZ sets only available that way, but I don't want to "HAVE" to put up with this BS.

For the record, this is the same crap we went through with the GT sets. A rep told us they were going to be in widescreen as well. I'm still sticking with the official release and the trailer. Screw what a rep says, if FUNi puts 4:3 footage in the trailer and writes "4:3" in the freaking press release, then to do otherwise is false advertising, which FUNi doesn't even NEED to do with DragonBall.

It's best not to trust FUNi's reps, especially at cons, because lately they've been proving that their most up-to-date information is, like, three years older than what the rest of the world has.

Oh this better be in 4:3.

I haven't been one to bitch and moan about it (manga is my preferred flavor of DragonBall) but the footage is already there. Anything done to it now would be done simply for the sake of reducing the quality of the image.

I just thought...... Is there possibility, that if US dub have the original japanese bgm music in show, can they release a soundtrack???
majority of japanese and american BGM from DBZ are released, but from Dragon Ball, there is only a bit released from all that music.....
Yeah, I know that it's a naive, but I'm too much to japanese BGM's

I don't know a lot about video, but having 31 episodes on 5 discs can't be good for the bitrate can it?

Hmm.

7 x 5 = 35.

I guess 7 episodes for Discs 1-4 which is good, because the 21st Budoukai ends there. Then Disc 5 could have the last 3 episodes.

Widescreen, shmidescreen, as long as they release this I'm happy. I'd rather have the uncut Dragon Ball than the tip of Goku's hair.

Awesome, official confirmation on this set is great. I too, am going to go with the official press release and quotes that it'll be glorious fullscreen. Kaiser, since it happened to you specifically, you should really e-mail FUNi and inform them that their very own representative of their company may be completely misinformed and, worse yet, passing out this misinformation to people where this information may mean the difference between a sale or not. Plus, the rep must not be doing what he's freaking GETTING PAID FOR!

False advertisement is a big thing, ya know.
