I agree with both VegettoEX and TheBalishChannel here. There's nothing wrong with copying (or even tracing) from the source. But if you do, it's important that you make it very clear where you got your poses/pics/ref etc. Especially if it's nearly identical to the original. Otherwise you might be called out for "stealing", even if you were doing it for practice.

Mybbad, I should've clarified that yeah he should have at least sourced the images, but I think it's still unnecessary to attack Eskobar like that

My post was not an "attack" on Artwork.Eskobar as much as it was a critique or a suggestion for all who do this in the future. Never did I use a derogatory term like "asshole" in a deliberate attempt to offend anybody; I simply pointed out the fact that the user posted his images without citing the original artist. I have my doubts that the dog-piling would cease had VegettoEX and Scarz not supported what I had to bring about the current situation.

I do not want to be held responsible for the derailing of this discussion, so rather than allowing this to escalate even further, I'd suggest those who've taken issue with my harmless criticism to stop where they are and move on so that this thread can resume and continue to be an outlet for those who wish to share their talents with the community.

Here's the rest of them. I don't trace my drawings. For some of them, I use specific scenes from the show as reference, so I still have to do them from scratch. Oh, and EDIT: Hellsing crossover and Cyborg Superman reference.

Some 8 years three weeks later, I finally wrapped this up.

VegettoEX wrote:I think TheBalishChannel provided a very well-thought-out and reasonable response here. You don't have to agree with it, but you do have to at least consider it without being rudely dismissive of it. That's the entire point of a discussion, particularly when it comes to art and critique.

Nobody was actually disagreeing with TheBalishChannel when he stated that credit should be given to the original images, like I said in my previous post. However, there's a clear difference in just saying "since those images are referenced from original art, you really should give credit to those original images" and what he posted (which included heavy criticism to referenced art itself), and that difference is what caused the responses to his posts, with those responses focusing on his criticism, not on the inclusion of the credit of the original images.

In fact, his posts seem to be much more focused in criticizing referenced art itself than just stressing the need for giving credit for the original images. In his first post, for example, I struggle to find in his words where he is stressing that need since it all just seems to be criticism regarding referenced art itself:
TheBalishChannel wrote: I'll never understand why some users on the forum feel the need to showcase "their artwork" if all their pieces are just poorly re-drawn/traced versions of already existing artwork. I've seen it become more and more apparent in this thread and hopefully it changes now that I've pointed it out. Please use this thread to post real, original fan-art.
So, no, I don't think TheBalishChannel "simply pointed out the fact that the user posted his images without citing the original artist", and the so-called "dog-piling" was not because it was simply pointed out that there was no credit given to the original images.

I agree with you Rareboy. While he is entitled to an opinion, his "criticism" is nothing more than an attack since it's not a constructive critique. "I don't like your poorly redrawn/traced art, stay away from here."
Again, I don't trace my drawings, I make them from scratch using scenes from the Anime. Just like most the famous Fan Manga writers do on their material.

That was my original point, but I was somehow in the wrong. Oh well, doesn't really matter.
To get the thread back on track, successorofhate I really like your drawings. The Cooler vs Freeza(?) one looks awesome

Thank you! I've just went ahead and gave Freeza another transformation. I did this back in 2010 when I was hungry for new DB Content.

Any tips for beginner drawers who can't get faces on-model? I've tried some other anime like HxH and they are much easier to draw on-model, but DBZ for the life of me is always off model. It doesn't look bad. It just doesn't look like the characters.

I've practiced a lot, and am using references, but I've hit a wall :(

I struggle with faces too. I try it once and then I erase 50 times and can never get right on my head. I suggest just drawing heads over and over from different angles to get it down better. That's what I'm doing and it helps

Fingers are the worst. I can draw fists ok enough but individual fingers look awful lol

That is a sick cosplay, but how does he breathe with his nose covered like that?
