There's a chapter in this volume where Tori-bot travels 10 years into the future to 1994 (one chapter after Obotchaman did the same thing--Tori-bot's chapter starts with him being called out on this by his assistant after telling the assistant that he wants to do something big for chapter 200). After seeing what the Dr. Slump cast is doing, he meets himself at the end of the chapter:

and finds 1994!Tori-bot homeless and begging for money on the street. Tori-bot returns to 1984 and to drawing his manga so he can change his future.

Toriyama himself (and Torishima) are also characters in this manga; Torishima is wearing what looks like a babushka in this volume because so many people at the Jump Office were calling him Mashirito that Torishima got a new haircut and made Toriyama promise not to draw him with his new hairstyle.

Toriyama is a regular enough cast member in Dr. Slump in general where Senbei and the others recognize (and vaguely are skeptical) about him.

Hold up, having read the Angels of Hell reveals Freeza was imprisoned after Mirai Trunks sliced him, I believe there's a misconception that he, King Cold, Cell, and the Ginyus were seen in a prison cell after Goku and Paikuhan plummeted them in Hell towards the end of episode 195. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think Toriyama may be ignoring Toei's version of hell (though he offered some input for it, it was a mostly-Toei thing) in favor of creating his own version of Dragon Ball hell from scratch. Like how he's ignoring Cooler, or like how he's got his own manga-version of Bardock now.
If that's the case, I'm super-curious about what it looks like and still behind my theory from earlier that Toriyama's version of DB's hell is personalized in an ironic cruel/unusual manner depending on what kinds of bad stuff the person did in life.


I can't help but wonder if this all stems from a double-whammy of how his input was ignored back during DBE and his reaction to the original script for BOG. Cares about Dragon Ball enough once more where he's taking his author-chair back.

Makes sense; it would be easier (and faster) if all he relies on is the manga; way easier to spot-check that than popping in a dvd and zooming around til you find what you're looking for.

I don't know about Vegeta being the secret protagonist but he is certainly the second most important character in the franchise now.

Any protagonistic aspirations people may have for Vegeta in this movie stem from
Toriyama's comments in the Episode of Bardock Q&A. Though, you're probably aware of this.

In the future, might we be able to see Bardock in action…? And Vegeta as well, if possible…
You really like Bardock, don’t you, Ooishi-san?
But unfortunately, Bardock has been dead for quite some time, so you probably won’t be able to see him in action except in stories of the past. There is the trick of having Shenlong bring him back to life, but by this point, his battle power isn’t high enough, so methinks it’d be a bit difficult.

As for Vegeta, in the event that there’s talk of another animated film, then next time, I’d like him to play the main role. (Of course, this is nothing more than intentions, and I haven’t decided anything at all.)
