Feels like there's a little less follow-through, and easing; but still nice either way.
Not a lot of awkward shots like 39 had.

It never ceases to amaze me that you can just pan a background sideways while having your characters do crazy acrobatics and the suspension of disbelief is retained.
Gohan deflecting the poison beams is quite reminiscent to how Goku deflected Hit's invisible ki blasts in EP 71.

Now this is an example of a great use of repeated frames. That was a quality fight, even though the animation wasn't super amazing. It was still really good and it's way above Super's average. Reminds me of ep39 just way better.

Good episode. Enjoyed it a lot. Though I think last week's was a little bit better, primarily because of the impacts. Don't get me wrong, this week's episode wasn't bad from that perspective by any means, its just that Tate's really good at that. I will even go as far as to say that he is better than Shida in that perspective. The OP is a good example of that. His Goku vs Bergamo had more of an impact than Shida's Goku vs the Alien dude. On a side note, Otsuka's impacts in the Goku vs Alien dude(the last scene in the OP) were very good as well.

Heavy outsourcing for this week's episode from Wanpack. Last week's was also heavy on that. I hope we get this level of outsourcing on a consistent scale. Nice storyboarding from Hatano Kohei. His ep. 56 was my favorite episode, so I am glad that he is still around after stepping down as the SD even though it was a temporary role. His work in the filler episodes was bland but it was understandable as it was rushed, but his work this time around was really good.

Just out of curiousity, does the order of the staff list also show which Studio worked on which part of the episode, or does it merely seperate them into the studios' they were working for and the parts they worked on were interchangeable?

Both episodes is supervised by Shuiiciro Manabe. I guess... he's good. Or no, he's talented.
Just imagine him with a good schedule.

I saw a re-used scene in episode 80. The punches after Goku said that Gohan need to finish it quickly, or before Gohan got poisoned and deformed.
Is re-used in the rotations before the Kamehameha vs Poison thingy.

Dang, that's sad. Where did you get the info?

And, btw is Keisuke Masunaga retired? Or is he...

Animators like Shimanuki, Tate, Yamammuro, and others are still alive and well. Uchiyama was probably pretty old when working at Z.

Was Gohan's transformation, bank animation from episode 33?
https://ibb.co/f8yQfa
Actually it felt that some parts of the episode were redesigns and redrawn based on scenes shown in other episodes.
Let's hope that it helped the production. Even though I found it weird, outsourcing part of their production and reusing stuff from older episodes. Is the schedule so tight that even redrawn scenes from older episodes have to be outsourced in order for some episodes to be complete? Or they are just going full conservative in order to secure that the production won't have issues later? Maybe as a safe measure just in case?

Nope, just a generic transformation pose.

It also looks like SSJB Kaioken, but mirrored. It's a very common angle in Dragon Ball. If you compare the two side by side, there are many differences.

Oh, so there was some sakuga in this episode? I knew that the cut which is there had to be uploaded. I just didn't know it was animated by Higashide. He's a blessing!

I liked this episode's animation and art quite a lot. If every episode was on the level of Episode 80, I would never complain. There were some very good shots here and there too. I especially liked how Goku was drawn, as he's usually badly drawn.

The bottom one is something I'd like to see more in Dragonball. Goku did it versus hit too and I think it's a really badass action sequence.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

I was just going to say the Gohan deflecting blasts cut should be on the Booru and then Ajay uploaded it, lol.

-Episode 80-

Really liked this one too!

It's funny how repeated frames are such a cheap way to animate and yet it became a classic thing that most fans, me included, like to see in DB fights.
It's a win-win scenario for both parties.

I thought it was too soon for this arc and one of reasons for that thought was the schedule, but so far they doing better than Champa arc. Not only the fights look better, but also they are longer than most fights in Champa's tournament and these are just preliminaries...

I'm also glad they kept the filter, unlike what the NEP showed. Everything looks so damn beautiful, at least in the location they are in.

Looks like we have an animator from BONES that worked in this episode. I always thought most animators would like to work on Dragon Ball, not only because of the popularity but also because the fights can give them a big room for creativity. Now that the schedule is better, looks like more talented animators may be ready to ride the train. :D

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota
