Something tells me the movie will not become popular with the fans or public. I will eat my own pants if this movie isn't the Dragonball equivalent to the Super Mario bros. movie.FindKenshi wrote:I don't know if you guys really care or not, but I do want to share with you, an actual nightmare I had about this movie. You see, in this nightmare, the movie ended up being as bad as every Dragonball fan was fearing it would be. Goku was a whiney emo kid in High School. Piccolo looked like a human throughout the whole movie. He also fights with a gun. Goku doens't even do kamehameha, ect ect.. just as big as a disaster as you can imagine.
But despite all DB fans hating it.. everyone else loved it. I mean it went big. It became an ultra-blockbuster hit, raking in more money then Titanic and Episode 3 COMBINED. It became so popular, that they easily got the rights to do an original TV series produced in America called "The Real Adventures of Dragonball Z." This series, of course, was starred by the movie versions of the character... emo Goku, "pimp-truck" Yamcha, high school cheerleader Chi Chi.
The only small reference/easter egg they gave fans of the original series. Goku sees someone do a Kamehameha in a video game, and laughs saying it looked very lame and "You'd never catch me doing something goofy like that."
Basically the series spawns so much new fans, an overwhelming tide of fandom, and one thing they all have in common is that they hate what Dragonball used to be. We fans of Akira Toriyama's wonderful story become a very small group of people who are basically flamed and ridiculed at all turns. At the end of my nightmare, AKira Toriyama himself stepped forward; and much to our dismay, stated that he feels the new movie/series is the "true" story of Dragonball, and that his own story is too outdated and should be forgotten.
Sure this will never come to pass, we may even say to ourselves something like that could never happen, and we'd probably be right--but still it is a scary thought. If something even remotly similar to that happens, even if its not on that scale, it still has the potential to "kill" the series.

After reading the thread with a similar theme, about the movie getting an American spin-off series... I saw an ad a little later that night for a new, American-made Transformers series... and it made me flinch with fear that something like this wasn't so impossible.FindKenshi wrote: But despite all DB fans hating it.. everyone else loved it. Oh for crying out loud, guys. Not even regarding the dream thing, I think you're all exaggerating just a little as to the impact of this movie, and your fears about it are completely unfounded. It's a DragonBall movie, not the Apocalypse.
You can enjoy it, you can ignore it, or you can be one of those guys who claim that they hate and despise the idea, but will see it anyway, "just for a laugh."

Cartoon Network's original animated shows are always really cool. Megas XLR, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, and many other's were some of the coolest stuff that I've seen and one of the reason why whenever my TV's on 90% of the time it's on Cartoon Network. To be honor if they ever got the rights to a new Dragonball series, I would be looking very forward to it.

YEah in a way I was also half-relieved that they didn´t start off with Vegeta because quite frankly, thinking of who Hollywood might choose makes me nervous. They could potentially ruin one of the most superb characters in the history of Anime. I mean to Pull Vegeta off you need off the charts talent cause he is so complex.Chuquita wrote:I've never seen Heroes, but I'm glad Vegeta isn't in this movie.
It'd take one superior acting job to pull him off. XD
Milo Ventimiglia IS pretty indeed but I think he isn´t too pretty that he couldnt play Vegeta convincingly. Both Goku AND Vegeta are supposed to be quite hunky so whoever they were to choose for the part would have to be good looking. I said Milo is past DBZ cause I would assume he would try to aim for something a little more mainstream or artsy than DBZ but in a way I know he really isnt. If the first movie does well, I swear he would be just right for this part, I just know it in my gut. I cant picture someone too tough looking, like Ray Park, too muscular too harsh. Vegeta is a lot more delicate than that.

Only the first three seasons of The Transformers, Beast Wars, and Beast Machines were written and produced in America. You do realize that Transformers is an American series, yes?
The majority of Transformers shows have been Japanese. The rest of Headmasters, Starforce, Masterforce, Beast Wars 2, and Beast Wars Neo were all on the air before Transformers made its way back to the US with the series Micron Legend (Armada), Super Link (Energon), and Galaxy Force (Cybertron). Of which Super Link and Galaxy Force premiered in Japan first.
A new Transformers series isn't a real big deal because Transformers shows never stopped being made. Dragon Ball however has been completely off the air for a very long time.

I've got to take a Mulligan on this one.Xyex wrote: You do realize that Transformers is an American series, yes?
Actually, I'm not a huge Transformers fan. That's not to say I don't like it, I just don't know anything about it beyond it having to do with robots who turn into various vehicles (or animals), and that it's a series based on a line of toys.
I just assumed since so many of the series that have been on TV for the last few years seemed like Japanese anime.
I prostrate myself before you, in all modesty, and beg forgiveness for my noobishness.

Hurm... Emmy Rossum's pretty hot but she's also really talented. I have to say I like the actors they've been picking, they all have talent, but it's going to be so weird.

Damn.... Beaten to the post. Well, she is pretty hot, and has been in handfull of films. But, I am far to skeptical to say that she'll do a good job. Because in order for her performance to be any good, the writing has to be at least somewhat good. And, well... I just am not sure about that.GI_Judd2287 wrote:http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6607

Did they say who she was playing? What female roles that we know about are left?the original ero-sennin wrote:Damn.... Beaten to the post. Well, she is pretty hot, and has been in handfull of films.
