Man, that is almost word for word how the last flame war happened talking about Nostalgia Critic. About a year or two back I believe. Man, I really do not want to see that re-enacted.

Can I ask a question about the DBZ Abridged series. What is Gohan's character? Like, not being mean. He's just boring, and oh, sometimes he's cynical and has daddy issues. Like, I just don't get it. He's super boring. None of Gohan's lines are memorable, and it's ONLY Gohan. Like, everyone else has something memorable about them that they've said or done, but Gohan has none of that. Like, it even sucks because like, when he had those super "look how funny it is that he's super smart" faces like when he tells Bulma how far she has to fall before going to maximum velocity, or when he like, facepalms when Bulma tells Slug about the Dragon Balls, like, those weren't entertaining. They were just bad and felt like you guys were trying super hard to make Gohan memorable.

Kaiser, everything about the series is great. But Gohan is so far the weakest part of your series, and that sucks because he's a main character. I'm sure you guys are doing your best to try and make him interesting, but man, Gohan is such a throw away character in DBZA. Like, I hope that changes when the 7 year timeskip happens. Like, you could subvert the daddy issues thing in teen movies and make it that Gohan needs lots of attention and like, sex or something because Goku never gave him attention. Just how in those comedy movies, the girls with daddy issues do the same. Just like, reverse the roles, I dunno.

To be fair to TFS, at this point in the series, Gohan didn't really have much to him, either.

(I mean, neither did Nappa, but he was never a main character, so they just did whatever they wanted with that characterisation. They can't really do that with a major character.)

I hope TFS get their channel back. My channel got taken down a few weeks ago by Toei as well. I honestly don't understand Toei. You will see all these fucking YouTube clips of Dragon Ball that get monetised by Toei but then there's some that'll get taken down by them. It makes no fucking sense.

I tried contacting Toei about my channel take down and they never replied. Seems like my channel's gone forever. TFS is a much bigger name though, so I'm sure they'll get their channel back if everyone yells at YouTube loud enough.

YouTube has been an absolute mess these past few months. It's actually embarrassing.

Because someone has to be the straight man, a.k.a., "the only sane person on the show". This is the guy who's made specifically so that all of the super wacky characters have something to bounce their wackiness off of.

By having someone normal, it serves to further emphasize the hilarity of how insane everyone else is. They serve to reflect our own reactions to what's happening. When we think someone is being ridiculous or stupid, they'll POINT out how said person is being ridiculous and stupid, in a comedic way of course. For example, "this is either going to be completely stupid and ridiculous, or it's going to be extremely dangerous and life-threatening, there's never any in-between with you". And of course, we would never have gotten any of the hilarious Gohan and Goku shenanigans that we're getting now if Gohan wasn't one of these.

Unfortunately, that can often mean that they ARE rather boring on their own. Because they're so sane, they're not able to be entertaining without someone insane besides them.

Gohan's pretty much worthless even in the main show when he's not Saiyaman. At least DBZA actually acknowledges the fact Goku's a bad father to him.

As a lot of others have said before, Gohan isn't terribly interesting in the series proper, at least until the Boo Arc made him a goofy nerd. Before that he just doesn't have a lot of personality. He's nice and courageous and gets in over his head, but other than that, what can you say about him? I think that this can be partially blamed on him being introduced during the more action-oriented portions of the series. There isn't much room to have character interactions between all of the fights. Most of the other characters are introduced much earlier, when fighting didn't completely dominate the series and there was a lot of character interactions. Sure a lot of those interactions were gags, but they did go a long way to to establish personalities and relationships. When Toriyama explains that he didn't feel Gohan was fit to replace Goku, I don't think it was because of fan backlash or that he didn't have the bad ass requirements. I feel that it was because Gohan isn't nearly as interesting as Goku.

Krillin Plays are the only LPs I can watch back to back. There's something about imagining Krillin getting owned again and again in these that makes me binge. Like the Outlast set, I've watched it twice.
