I wouldn't exactly call it an "unfounded, illogical prediction". I'd found it on, well, just about everything we've seen and heard so far.SSj Kaboom wrote:I'll just say this, so far, is an unfounded, illogical prediction.

Well, at least in terms of saying "it'll flop," it is. That suggests something in the area of financial success or popularity with audiences. THAT we definitely can't tell until the movie actually comes out.djkalteraphine wrote:I wouldn't exactly call it an "unfounded, illogical prediction". Of course! I really liked it, too! So did my friends I went and saw it with. However, we were the only people in the theater! Overall, the movie's made like $82-Million worldwide and it was on a $120-Million budget. If DVD sales are high enough, it might break even.djkalteraphine wrote:It was totally awesome, though.Kendamu wrote:If this turns out to be what the Speed Racer movie is compared to the Speed Racer anime, it just might work. The only problem with the Speed Racer movie was that it was done far too late for it to be a nostalgia thing.
Using the same colorful fast-paced popcorn-eating fun in the setting of Dragonball might actually work out better since Dragonball was recent enough for more people to easily remember it in a fond light but far enough into the past that it'll get labeled as "oldschool" by the masses. Speed Racer was just too long ago for it to work in that light.

Wikipedia has some new information on the film, though I don't know how much can be trusted:
The fact that the film will have "auras" is a little weird; I don't remember there being any aruras in Dragonball, but I might be wrong. It just sounds like an attempt to make the Dragonball film more like the more popular Dragonball Z.
Don't know if it has been previously mentioned that Piccolo will supposedly have green skin, but this is the first time I've heard of it.Wikipedia: Dragonball (Film) wrote:Effects
Dragonball special effects are being done by Amalgamated Dynamics, while the visual effects are being done by Ollin Studios, Zoic Studios, and Imagine Engine. The film will also have the anime style of fighting in Dragon Ball, such as ki energy blasts and auras. Other special effects, such as Piccolo's green skin, will also be in the film. The makeup is being done by Ed French and requires four hours of application.[32] In the August issue of Jump SQ. Chatwin revealed that he will be using Goku's signature move the Kamehameha in the film.

Wow, now that I think about it, you're right. I don't remember seeing any ki aura's until the Freeza arc.
I'm just happy to hear Piccolo will remain green. TTuTT
If we have to be robbed of Goku's hair, muscles, and facial features (the loss of which kills me a little inside, no matter how many laws of reality Goku's hair may defy
), it's at least some consolation to still have a green, pointy-eared, antennae'd Piccolo.

On hiatus.

I don't know how I forgot about the Kaio-ken; that's one of my favorite power-ups. *Head-desks*. >_O
But yeah, I just re-read the latter half of the Piccolo Daimao arc and I don't recall seeing any ki auras.
On hiatus.

Son Goku had an aura in "The Path to Power". But does that count?Chuquita wrote:SSj_Rambo wrote:There was the red Kaio-ken aura in the Saiya-jin arc.Chuquita wrote:Wow, now that I think about it, you're right. I don't remember seeing any ki aura's until the Freeza arc.

A lot of characters in Dragonball (The Anime) had this wierd, special effect looking glow around them (Unseen aura).SSJ2bardock wrote:In the dragonball anime Tenshinhan could see Piccolo's aura at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, but he was using his third eye to see it so I don't think that counts.
It looked a little like this:

That's something I've been thinking for a long time. That's part of the reason I'm kinda skeptical about this movie. I don't want to see "Dragonball" being marketed the same way as "Dragonball Z."SSj_Rambo wrote: The fact that the film will have "auras" is a little weird; I don't remember there being any aruras in Dragonball, but I might be wrong. Exactly, the two shows are completley different in their respective styles. They probably went with Dragonball as opposed to Z because its more realistic (if you can call dragonball logic realisticKendamu wrote:That's something I've been thinking for a long time. It seems at Comic-Con this weekend Jamie Chung did an interview for Dragonball. No big news, but her opinions and thoughts are interesting: http://io9.com/5029471/dragonballs-chi- ... e-spoilers
She did kind of confirm an old rumor though, one that we didn't really want confirmed, though it could do some good for Goku's character: She said that Chi-Chi will have to fight herself in the movie, which hints at the rumor of Piccolo Daimao's ability to create clones of a person made out of their evil self. This is kind of bad, since it shows that they are differing from the manga, at least in this case, but it would be cool if they use it to show that Goku is pure of heart and has no evil inside of him by making Piccolo incapable of making an evil clone of Goku.

That makes her sound like either a new fan of the series that only became a fan so that she can make herself think that she understands her role or a person who says some stuff she learned on her own and a lot of stuff her manager tells her to say so that she sounds familiar with the show and earns get good PR.Chuquita wrote:Is it bad that I kind of cringed after hearing the actress who's playing Chi-Chi refer to the original as a "cartoon anime".
I mean, she seemed excited about the movie, but then again she also said Chatwin looks like Goku.
