Yes, I do. I know that the Dragon Box discs are about 7.6 GB and that's basically as much as a DVD can hold. To fit another episode, the bitrate be lowered and the video compressed.rereboy wrote:You still don`t know that. English Dragon Box Release

Does anyone know if this is the final specs? Cause if I am remembering correctly, the DBZ season sets were originally going to be 5 discs each, but when they finally came out they were 6 each.gallagtor wrote:If they're cramming 42 episodes onto 6 discs, that means that there will be 7 episodes on each disc like the Orange Brick sets. Also, as someone earlier in this topic mentioned, technology has advanced quite bit sine the dragonboxes were originally released, and maybe since they are putting the english dub in, they have to re-author the disks, and since compression has improved they are able to fit more per disc without quality loss. But then again I could be talking out my ass.
Season 9 also has the top and bottom of the screen cut off.jjgp1112 wrote:Funi did that with Season 9 and still had a GB of space left. Dual Layer DVDs hold 8.54GB of data.gallagtor wrote:Yes, I do. I know that the Dragon Box discs are about 7.6 GB and that's basically as much as a DVD can hold. Again, you fail to understand how video compression has drastically changed since 2003.

I've never seen a retail DVD over 8 GB.Big Boss wrote:Dual Layer DVDs hold 8.54GB of data.gallagtor wrote:Yes, I do. It also has extra footage on the sides, what's your point?gallagtor wrote:Season 9 also has the top and bottom of the screen cut off.jjgp1112 wrote:Funi did that with Season 9 and still had a GB of space left. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I have a ton of them. Dunno what you're thinking about.gallagtor wrote:I've never seen a retail DVD over 8 GB.Big Boss wrote:Dual Layer DVDs hold 8.54GB of data.gallagtor wrote: Yes, I do. Again, I'm going to reiterate that video compression has drastically changed since 2003. You can get the same quality at lower bitrates these days.
I'm saying, more screen = more data. More was removed than was added. But now that I think about it, the widescreen discs have more pixels in length so nevermind. Care to name a few? You may be right about the compression, though.Big Boss wrote:

According to this video they are 42 episodes over 6 discs. The R2 Dragon Boxes (I'm going to have to get used to specifying which ones now :p) have 6 episodes per disc, meaning disc 7 ends with episode 42.omegacwa wrote:Does anyone know if this is the final specs? This is true, however keep in mind that (per FUNi themselves) they use outdated encoders. They're actually renowned for having some of the worst compression problems in the business at the moment.Big Boss wrote:Again, I'm going to reiterate that video compression has drastically changed since 2003. Big Boss' first post was ll the proof you need that dual layer discs are 8GB, hell, here's what it says on Wikipedia:gallagtor wrote:Care to name a few? You may be right about the compression, though.Big Boss wrote:

DVD-R DL 8.5 GB
DVD+R DL 8.5 GB

Funi's encoding has vastly improved since 2002. They hired a new encode guy in 2007 and their DVD's have had top-notch quality since then. Just look back at the Season 9 thread.MajinVejitaXV wrote:This is true, however keep in mind that (per FUNi themselves) they use outdated encoders. I'm talking about discs from 2007 onward, but okay. Hiring a new guy doesn't do much when the problems were greatly tied to their outdated encoder (the physical equipment). I'll find some examples later if you want me to.jjgp1112 wrote:Funi's encoding has vastly improved since 2002. I'm a bit late on the news (just got back from being out of town), but this is my reaction:

Good thing I only bought the first three orange bricks!
...Now I just need to figure out how to afford this, the every-other-month One Piece DVDs, and the sped-up One Piece Nation releases.
