They said that at the start, when they were talking about '150 characters, not counting forms'. Then when they said 160+ they started counting forms again. And 161 is the offical number right now. They wouldn't have given an exact number if they weren't intending it to be the final count. Don't forget, this game is finished and being printed right now. It's over. I highly doubt that the character count is any higher than 161.

It's about time they put Trunks Saga Gohan (Saiyan Armor, or even with his Piccolo outfit) in to a game, I'm tired of having to be Saiyan Saga Gohan if I want him to have long hair.

Thats the thing. Gohan had a bunch of cool outfits I'd love to have seen in the game. Here are some of them.

Trunks Saga combo of saiya-jin armor and scruffy hair (could be Kid or Teen Gohan, more likely Kid)
Android Saga long hair (Teen Gohan)
Cell Saga long hair and armor (Teen Gohan)
Cell Saga short hair and armor (Teen Gohan)
Cell Games Piccolo Robes with sholder weights (Teen Gohan)
Great Saiyaman Saga High School uniform (Gohan)
Fusion Saga Kai uniform (Gohan or Ultimate Gohan)
After Buu casual clothes and glasses (Gohan)

To be honest, Z (Neko Majin) is a reasonable possibility, now that Viz translated one of the chapters. It's highly doubtful, but there's an outside chance.

Maybe the Japanese will get Kuriza. That would be awesome!

A few seconds before Goku shot the Kamehameha, we see that Piccolo is a few steps away from the edge, so I guess he really did die! I hope so.

My belief (and hope) is that the "boost" option you see come up when you do a blast attack, is for extra damage normally when you and your opponent are both fighting with reasonable health, but when your opponent is on low health if you select boost, it will vaporize them.

I really hope that's the case.

This whole obliterating power is cool but what about matches like Goku VS. Teen Gohan in story mode? I doubt Goku would vaporize his son but its obviously going to look that way. I know it isn’t a big deal but it’s the little details like that which makes the game look weird at times.

I think when hitting your opponent and not shooting him with something like kamehameha wouldn't vaporize him, it would be logical.

I mean, Goku wouldn't shoot a full power kamehameha to finish off his son :/

Well, but on the other hand, you're right if it goes to ki battles and directly after that someone is KO and so on...

But I doubt they will think about that properly -.-

It'd be odd for some attacks to allow full vaporization (is that even a word?) of the opponent yet the majority can't, so I'd say it'd probably be disabled in story mode due to obvious reasons.
