"Dragon Ball Online" Discussion Thread
Re: Dragon Ball Online News
Honestly, I really don't give too shits about the game, the only interesting things to me seem to be the character creation and the story.

Well hopefully it won't be as bad as the Digimon MMO which is running on pure nostalgia.

Re: Dragon Ball Online News
Is Mr. Popo anywhere in DBO? If he lived long enough to serve the Kami before the current one we know, wouldn't he be able to live for who knows how long?
How long was King Piccolo trapped inside the rice cooker? Woulnd't Dende still be Kami of Earth for DBO if our Kami lives that long as well?

Re: Dragon Ball Online News
Logically. Also, since Muuri is still the Grand Elder of the Nameks, it's quite obvious that Dende is still Kami.LeprikanGT wrote:Is Mr. Popo anywhere in DBO? If he lived long enough to serve the Kami before the current one we know, wouldn't he be able to live for who knows how long?

Dende is the one who first noticed Miira's messy time traveling and alerted Time Patrol Trunks so yes hes still Kami.LeprikanGT wrote:Is Mr. Popo anywhere in DBO? If he lived long enough to serve the Kami before the current one we know, wouldn't he be able to live for who knows how long?

I would like to know this too. Also where is this Japanese version hosted?TheDevilsCorpse wrote:When was that confirmed?Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Europe, US, Aus. Will not be supporting the game..
Registering for a Japanese accoun is easy..much easier than korean(thank god) I enjoyed the game quite a bit, I thought it was fun. At least I know a bit of Japanese to get around.
Though we never see them in-game, we know that both Dende and Popo are still there on the sanctuary. There is a skill that every player has from the beginning which has something to do with Popo guiding your character back to the character's "Popo stone". It's basically the same thing as the hearthstone from WoW. And according to the story, Dende was the the one who sensed all of the time discrepancies on Earth, and informed Trunks about it, so he must still be Kami.LeprikanGT wrote:Is Mr. Popo anywhere in DBO? I don't know about the Europe/US/Australia thing, but I can't find anything about the Japanese version being released yet, beta or otherwise. The official Japanese site has nothing about it, and still says the service provider for Japan is "undecided."Gamma wrote:I would like to know this too. I suppose it's possible there are Japanese fan patches of the game, the same way there are English patches. Or maybe there's a super secret closed beta going on in Japan.

Re: Dragon Ball Online News
Does anyone know where can I read information about DBO story, characters, etc.? Is there an official, English written, site with such content?

Re: Dragon Ball Online News
I think possibly Kanzentai. I remember reading somewhere about the 'back story', which was all the stories on what happened to everyone after Z ended.
Re: Dragon Ball Online News
There's no official English text that explains all that but there are some really good fan translations of the story and other stuff. I'll link you to them:Senzu_Bean wrote:Does anyone know where can I read information about DBO story, characters, etc.? Is there an official, English written, site with such content?
Translation of the plot from the game's intro:
http://www.dbocom.com/forum/showthread.php?p=429
Translation of plot and character details from the main site:
http://www.dbocom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=634
These translations only tell us the backstory to the game, if you want to know how the story actually progresses through the game itself, then you should watch videos of the time machine quests translated. You can get them all on YouTube, from this channel:

Re: Dragon Ball Online News
The exact translations in the second thread can be found a little further back in this very thread. They certainly seem to be pretty accurate to me. From what I understand, it would be rather difficult to go about translating the Korean to English, as from what I know, many of the character, attack, and item names are changed from Japanese to Korean. I could get rather confusing if you don't even know what Goku's name in Korean is.

Re: Dragon Ball Online News
I read that earlier in this thread, but it's nice to refresh my memory on it!
Re: Dragon Ball Online News
I don't care much for the time travel stuff, but I absolutely love the backstory to game. Would be nice to see an animated special revolving around the New Turtle and Crane schools.
Re: Dragon Ball Online News
I bring this collection of familiar characters and winks that are in the game. It's in Spanish, but perhaps you Google translator helps a little. This better not show it, right?
Familiar characters and hints:
Guys, in this game there is a great amount of hints and characters. In fact, as you may know, the map is 100% recreation of the DB manga's Earth. Absolutely every place we saw in the manga, but even so, everything has evolved 200 years and a few places have changed drastically. In addition to the locations that we all know there are also new locations that we have never seen, and many which have been created over the years, like the villages of the Majins and the Namekians. It is so great the number of hints that reviewing all of them that it could take us months and months of dedication of only that each day. To be honest traveling the map has giving us the sensation of actually traveling the Dragon World.. And the map is no even complete. Many locations are left, more than half the map has not yet been added to the game, but in the future I'm sure they will finish it completely. In a press conference they even dropped that Penguin Village would be included.
For the moment I will leave a few characters appearing in the year 1,000 and a few hints too. Let's go. We'll start with the most well known:
Piccolo:

We can find Piccolo as an NPC in a zone infested with evil Namekians. He gives a mission that has to do with those Namekians. His physical appearence changed in that he has changed his boots and some wrinkles have appeared in the corner of his mouth.

Kame Sennin:

We can visit Muten-Roshi on his island, near Kame House. We can catch him with or without shades. His changes have been having a larger mustache and a new new model of glasses for the season of the year 1,000.

Umigame:

We can speak with Umigame right at the beginning of the game, where we appear in the age of Raditz, before he comes to Earth. In the year 1.000 we can find other different turtles around the map:

Fortuneteller Baba:

Baba we still can't find her in the game, but we know she's there, since we have her character design. In the future they will surely implement the part of the map were we will find her palace, now that an image of the map of DBO we can see that part. Baba's changes are that her hair has grown and some black nails have grown and sharp.
We can also see her ghost servant. I'm sure it's not exactly him, because there are many that as NPCs and there are some green ones:

Additionally we have this concept-art where we can see some type of boat- house with Baba's symbol. This mans that perhaps her palace isn't her house, if not only her workplace:

We also have the Mummy, although we don't know if it's him or a costumed actor, becuase he appears by a film crew:

Karin:

In the game we can visit Karin's Holy Land and scale the famous tower. At the bottom of the tower still stands Tao-Pai-Pai's pillar in the ground, very old and full of moss. Once climbed the tower Karin gives us a quest that once conquered we'll convert to adults directly(¿?)...It is the only way to grow:

They've even made a statue in his honor:

Mr. Popo:
About Mr. Popo, the only indication that we have are the Popo Gems, located in the origin place of the each race. Their function is to return us to the origin location of the each race if beaten in battle. As you can see those gems have the entire face of Popo:

Muri:

There are three zones where the characters start the game, each with their own, mayor or someone in charge. The Namekians start at a Namekian village, the area is called Porunga Rocks and Muri remains the patriarch of the Namekians.

Polunga:

Shenron:

Of course, Shenron appears in the game. The truth is that there are many sets of Dragon Balls, as such there are various Shenrons:

A lo largo del mapeado podemos encontrar varias curiosidades referentes a Shenron, como esta estátua, situada cerca de Kokkara Village:

También hay otra estatua de este tipo en la zona de los namekianos:

Existe esta roca con la forma de una cabeza de dragón:

Y algo todavía mas curioso y sorprendente es este esqueleto de un dragón parecido a Shenron:

Cow Guy:

This guy I have no idea who he is. I don't know his name, but I guess he is family of the Ox-Demon King, more likely his descendant...But if he is Ox King's descendant it means he is Chi-chi and Goku's descendant as well. All that we know about him is that he is the mayor of Kokkara Village, a sort of village-school, it's also the place where humans begin the game.

Black guy with glasses:

This guy is the mayor of Pran Pran, the place where the Majins begin the game, a Majin village. I would say he is a descendant of Oob.. But there's something that calls attention (get ready for a crazy theory made in HECTOR4), his glasses, his book, his vest. To me he gives an air of Son Gohan. With the whole Goku teaching Pan and Oob... what if Oob and Pan and got together? XDDD
In addition, there are many NPCs throughout the map, look like this guy, that swarms around town teaching children, with his book and everything:

Bee:

Mr. Boo's Dog is already dead, but we can see a statue built in his name with the letter B and everything. Additionally his race of dogs are numerous in Majin villages and even some of these dogs act as guardians at the gates of the village.

Mr. Boo:
Someone who surely has died. The patriarch of the Majin race. Throughout the game we can see numerous monuments honoring him, like a fountain for some sewers and these in turn to a kind of aqueduct, all trimmed with a bust or head:

Another monument is a park with trees trimmed into the form of Mr. Boo:

Mr. Satan:
In the game there are the hints to the great legendary hero too. In the year 1.000 exist big billboards publicizing movies made about Mr. Satan's victory in the Cell Games, titled (in a clear homage to Star Wars) Satan Wars and Satan Returns.

We can also find this statue made in his honor, and in honor of the great and legendary stomach pains suffered by the world's greatest hero:

Man-Wolf:

Man-Wolf, who we can see has not changed at all, we find him around and even help us fight some enemies. Here he is in human form and wolf form:

Ohzaru:

Toninjika:

Toninjika apparently has returned to Earth somehow before Jackie Chun destroyed the Moon, and he looks exactly like we last saw him. We can also see his house and it appears he has other minions. The only thing I know is when speaking with him we can see a scene where he speaks with a one of his subordinate (a wild rabbit with a sun glasses) and converts him into a carrot. Around his home there are plenty of carrots, huge and smaller ones, and also numerous wild rabbits.

Giran:

A place that was briefly shown in the manga is the town of Giran. In the game we can encounter an see a tombstone of one of the most Giras (this is how Giran's race is called)

Nam:

Another place briefly shown in the comic is Nam's village. In the game we can visit it. The funny thing is that they have thrived and there is a curious statue erected on behalf of Hoi-Poi capsules, which spared them of the long drought.
King Chappa:

We do not encounter King Chappa in the year 1.000, instead at a Time Leap Quest that leads up to just before qualifying for the 23 º Tenkaichi Budokai. What we discover around the mats of the playoffs.
Garnet Farm:

Surely this is the of that farmer who was killed by Raditz, whose name may be Garnet. Close to the farm is the lineup:

And an NPC who appears:

Mo-Mo Milk:

It is also a farm where they sell milk. There an NPC will give us a mission to deliver milk, like Krillin and Goku during their training:

Announcer:

The Announcer of the Tenkaichi Budokai returns and appears in the year 1.000. Well, no, I don't it's him, perhaps a descendant of his, but the truth is that he looks exactly like the old.
Soma (or Sona) Kahn:
This seems to be the descendant of the famous actor named Barry Kahn, who Boo copied her face to kiss a girl. When can see signs of her band (I think) in many places, and themselves (or any NPC with their appearance) also appear there:

Bear Bandit:

In the same Time Leap Quest of the 23º Tenkaichi Budokai Chi-Chi fights the Bear Bandit that wanted to demolish Umigame at the beginning of the story. This occurs before Chi-chi enters the tournament's qualifiers. Bear Bandit now has a couple of Lacalle.

These are his minions:

¿Pilaf?:

Well of course, I place Pilaf with questions because it is not clear whether he is or not. It is speculated to be a descendant of his. Well why? It's because this guy's name is translated from Korean Paella...Yes, you read correctly, Paella, the typical Spanish plate...And the symbol that he has on his clothes is diffrent from Pilaf's. And you see that accompanying him is a guy like Shu, that is not Shu, this guy is called Ron. There are also more types out there like Shu:
This is called Pulta:

This is referred to as Station Engineer Technician:

And this is a Supply Sergeant:

Well, Ron and Paella appear at the gates of the castle of Pilaf, and when we enter it we face an army of Freeza's soldiers that take form of statues of Pilaf, Shu and Mai:

And how intriguing, this is a science-related NPC that is similar to Mai:

#16:

We can see #16 after entering Pilaf's castle, in a room with a laboratory. It seems that #16 was fabricated into a series, because in the background we can see capsules which say: 16 A, 16 B and 16 C. Needless to say, such as a new #16 has been repaired and follow their creator's orders.

Tao-Pai-Pai:

Or rather Tao-Pai-Pai X, which is the name the new version of the Tao-Pai-Pai Cyborg. This character we find as a Boss in an underground mine, and even has a kind of student (although it seems it is a clone of his young version) that knows his Kiko-Ho:

His student (or clone):

Dr. Gero:

We find Dr. Gero in his new laboratory... and nothing else. Well yes, we don´t know if a new Dr. Gero was rebuilt, if it is a clone or is the original ... It could be anything:
Commander Red:

The commanding general of the defunct Red Ribbon. It appears that his brain has been reconstructed and has been placed in the body of a new cyborg called #9. We find him in the ruins of the old base of the RR.

Other interesting facts and hints:
This NPC of a little Indian looks a lot like the character that was the daughter of Sherman Priest, whose village was attacked by a young Oolong:

There is a statue erected in commemoration of that mermaid Goku gave Kame Sennin to accept him as a student. The statue shows us that mermaid on Kinton cloud:

This scraping of fish is very similar to that Goku licked in the saga of Piccolo Daimaoh, which belonged to Yajirobe:

This plowed field, added to the possibility of wearing a turtle shell reminds us of the Goku and Krillin training with Kame Sennin:

This NPC is similar to Ireza, the friend of Gohan and Videl in the Orange Star High School:

West City University:
Al estilo de la Orange Star High School, en West City se está construyendo la West City University:

Capsule Corporation:

Thank you very much to the users from DBOCOM, DBO Brasil and DBO-ESP for their images.

Re: Dragon Ball Online News
So Mark's Cell "movie" is called "Satan Wars"? With the blatant ripping of the Star Wars font? XD
That is fantastic.
Equally fantastic and bizarre is that huge statue of him on the toliet. Why would anyone want to be immortalized in stone while on the john?
The huge Buu water fountain is kinda cool. A lot of the landscapes in these screenshots look really inspired. :3

I must say that all looks fantastic!
Actions have reactions so don't be quick to judge, you may not know the hardships that people don't speak of.

So Majin Buu has died? Somewhat weird I must say.
"La verdad es que hay varios conjuntos de Dragon Balls, así que hay también varios Shenrons"
And there are more than one Dragonball set?
