You don't need to pause DBZ for that. You could go piss, make a sandwich, realize you forgot to wash your hands, wash your hands, make another sandwich and come back and Goku and Enemy Of The Month will still be staring at each other.Raki wrote:The eye catches provide a good pausing point in case you need to go do other stuff, like a piss break or to get something to eat.

Geez. As I said before, these releases could be absolutely perfect and someone will still find a reason to bitch and moan about some small random detail.Rocketman wrote:You don't need to pause DBZ for that. The releases can't be perfect because the anime itself is not perfect. Heard the expression "polishing a turd"? You can make it shinier than a pearl but it's still made of shit.Kendamu wrote:Geez. People are completionists, just because you want to get it over with as fast as possible doesn't mean no one else is going to watch the entire thing.Rocketman wrote:Who gives a fuck about the eyecatches. They're fun, cute little pieces of the animation, and they're pretty unique, most anime series eye catches are boring. Crappy static images or even just the logo.

So you're here because you like collecting polished turds? I'm not following you.Rocketman wrote:The releases can't be perfect because the anime itself is not perfect. Tell me Rocketman, do you actually like Dragonball at all?Rocketman wrote:The releases can't be perfect because the anime itself is not perfect. Heard the expression "polishing a turd"? From the sounds of it, he's just an anime hater (or a manga purist, whichever), in which case he has no business in this thread. Really, it's kind of pathetic that he's here bitching about something he won't buy.

He does, but he's a manga fan/anime detractor (if I have that right). Why these sets would therefore be of interest to him, I have no idea, unless he's only in here to troll and take shots at random people's comments (which knowing how he sometimes rolls, wouldn't surprise me).Rory wrote:Tell me Rocketman, do you actually like Dragonball at all?Rocketman wrote:The releases can't be perfect because the anime itself is not perfect. But in his defense (kinda) it would be erroneous for people on this forum in general to assume that being a Dragon Ball fan is synonymous with being a fan of the anime (it isn't). Easy mistake to make considering the nature of this particular thread, but still.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

According to the Mythbusters, you can actually make a polished turd very appealing visually.Kendamu wrote:So you're here because you like collecting polished turds? I've never cared for the eyecatches though. They disrupt the mood of the show. They especially piss me off if it is the first time watching a show, not knowing what's about to happen; I'm on the edge of my seat, and then "BAM!". I don't need them, but if they want to include things like that fine. I do however, like the next episode previews, because on rare occasion, they have footage that isn't used somewhere else.

I'm also a much bigger fan of the manga, I do feel that Kai is giving an all around quicker and more accessible experience, and I too at times cannot stand the anime.Kendamu wrote:Y'know, I own all 42 volumes of the manga in English and Japanese. In essence, I agree with your post and think that Rocketman should leave this thread as he's merely trolling at this point. No, I'm serious Rocket, you're obviously just being opinionated and self-righteous about how you feel about the show. In short, you're not that big a fan of it to begin with, so here you're just causing more trouble than anything else.
On Topic: I don't know if I'll be purchasing these as soon as they come out, but I do know I want to get them some day. Sooner rather than later of course, but when the time is right and the price is just a little cheaper... and I have more money!

Simply owning the manga and preferring it to the anime doesn't make you a manga purist. Manga purists are the kind that pleasure themselves to Toriyama's artwork each night and have bouts of explosive diarrhea when they see an ad for the anime.Kendamu wrote:Y'know, I own all 42 volumes of the manga in English and Japanese. If I'm gonna buy a polished turd, then I don't want to pay a hundred bucks for it.Kendamu wrote:So you're here because you like collecting polished turds? I'm not following you.
The anime, any version of the anime, is only good for making music videos and base Vegetto awesomeness.
Hell yes I do. What I don't like the the stuffed-to-bursting-with-crap-and-slower-than-a-kid-whose-family-tree-has-no-branches...thing that dares to call itself 'Dragonball'.Rory wrote:Tell me Rocketman, do you actually like Dragonball at all?

Yarr!
So then why are you even here in the first place if you don't even like what's in the set?Rocketman wrote:The releases can't be perfect because the anime itself is not perfect. In other news, I was just doing some price speculation.
Let's pretend for a moment that, for some odd reason, you like paying MSRP and shop at places like FYE. You're looking at spending about $560 on Dragon Boxes (roughly 1/4 the Japanese price). If you were to buy all the Orange Bricks at MSRP, you'd be paying about $450. So, really, $560 for Dragon Box quality is amazing.
Now, looking at Amazon prices (in the US, at least), you're looking more at something around $270 for the entire Orange Brick collection if you got them when they first came out (current total price would be about $222). That's about 60% of MSRP. If we get lucky the Dragon Boxes are around 60% of the MSRP, we're actually looking at something like $336 for the whole series.
While the Dragon Boxes look to be super expensive compared to the previous release, in reality they're not that much more expensive especially considering that there's 9 Bricks and there'll be 7 Boxes.
So, for those of you who have a steady income and were able to afford the bricks, these Boxes aren't really going to be outside your budget, either, in the long run.

Oh, trust me. I've said some pretty bad things about the anime before. I just don't ever swear it off permanently.johnboy1 wrote:Simply owning the manga and preferring it to the anime doesn't make you a manga purist. Depending on how long it takes to release, it's not much at all. Even if they cranked the whole thing out in a year, that is only $50 a month set aside at MSRP. I don't have a steady income, but I still see no problem in me being able to afford this, especially with the potential discounts.Kendamu wrote:In other news, I was just doing some price speculation.

Pretty much. When I bought the first 3 bricks, I still had a lot of spare cash left. The only reason why the last 6 bricks left me with no money is because I bought the Double Features with them, and the price of the DBox at discount places like Wal-Mart and BestBuy will probably be pretty much combined price of a Season Set and a Double Feature.Kendamu wrote:In other news, I was just doing some price speculation.
