I'm with you on that one. : ) I think some people would be unimpressed either way, though. If they had gone down the 'hero saves the day' route, people would complain about it being too cliché.VegettoEX wrote:It's not impressive for the producers of a shonen flick to not fall into the trap of just having the hero save the day in the end? Like they have literally done every single other time ever in the history of completely ever? Especially on the first full-length production in 17 years? Where part of the goal is to bring everyone back together and relive those great experiences?
I dunno what it takes to impress you, then!

Haha, don't underestimate your fans Mike :p I love Goku not winning. He sort of did, though, because Bils doesn't destroy the Earth because Goku wore him out. So even while he lost, he won sort of :p I think that's really greatVegettoEX wrote:I am clearly the only one relieved and impressed that Goku (nor any other hero) didn't end up 100% completely winning or truly saving the day.
Massive props to the scriptwriter and producers, and shame on the rest of you!DEAD TO ME. YOU'RE ALL DEAD TO ME.

OK, I haven't seen the movie, and I must say, from what Kei has told us, it certainly seems like the best Dragon Ball movie. I hope we get to see it soon

Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

Since there were some doubts before from some people, is Gohan obviously in his base form or could it have been a recoloring from SSJ to base? Also, why was it necessary for him to turn SSJ in order to trigger SSJG?

Can you answer thisNex Carnifex wrote:Kei, what was your opinion on Super Saiyan God, were you disappointed that it was just a shinier Kaio-ken technique or do we have the wrong idea? Also, how bloody and damaged do Goku and Bills get towards the end of their battle?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
SSJG looked very good on the screen. I actually prefer SSJG's looks over normal SSJ because getting stronger by hair becoming blond and pupils turning green somewhat can be associated with racism. Birusu hardly was visually damaged and Goku doesn't bleed.Nex Carnifex wrote:Kei, what was your opinion on Super Saiyan God, were you disappointed that it was just a shinier Kaio-ken technique or do we have the wrong idea? There has been a massive influx of comments and there is no way I'm going to read everything so I'll just point out a few things.
According to the timeline, this movie has to be Age 779.
Since Blooma is not even pregnant that means this cements the fact that Bra was born after Pan and is indeed 9 years old by the time GT rolls around. Bra has to be born in 780, just like the timelines in the guides say, going against what her bio in Daizenshuu 7 says. This is the same year Pilaf tries to conquer the world again according to Online, one or two years after he regains his youth.
This is indeed the get-together Blooma mentioned during the last chapters of the manga in which Goku did not attend.
39 years ago nothing interesting that could be related to the plot happened. In 740 Sno, Oolong and Puar are born, Kuririn begins training in the Oorin Temple and Baby creates Doctor M.
Trunks and Goten are 12 and 13 respectively. They still look as they did when they were kids except slightly taller. For a comparison, in the alternate timeline Trunks was 14 when he began training with Gohan.
So far what annoys me is the inconsistance in the looks. Like I just pointed out, 14 year old alternate Trunks looks 14 but 13 year old Trunks looks like a kid. 9 year old Bra looks at least 13, a trampy 13 but yeah, around that age at the very least.
Edit: There are no entries in 782 when Bills is supposed to wake up.

To me, the most impressive and moving scene was when Goku stops Birusu's huge energy ball in space. Goku is barely holding it back and the screen suddenly blacks out. Chichi and Goku's friends appear in Goku's mind, then he absorbs the energy ball and the fight ends. It's obviously an homage or the answer to Bardock's death.

It"s sad that Goten aren't more powerful. He's Goku's son after all

What happens after this? I always assumed that's because the characters aren't designed with actual ages in mind. The GT = 5 years later thing never jived with me and sounds like a random number they just tossed out there. I get the impression whenever a story takes place a number of years after an earlier one the designers just sort of make everyone vaguely older (if they make them older at all) with little regard to whether or not they're on target or consistent. So "older Bra" translates to "pretty much a teenager." "Older Trunks" makes him a businessman while "Older Goten" is...well..."pretty much a teenager." I wouldn't put too much stock in the discrepancy between the hard numbers and character ages. They never make sense and I doubt any thought beyond "vaguely older" or "still the same" ever enters the equation.DNA wrote:So far what annoys me is the inconsistance in the looks. That's okay :p I've been following along. Kei said that they were looking at how the girls were unveiling the Bingo prices. The Bingo, btw is apparently just a regular Bingo type of thing, nothing like the Cell Games as some people suspected.Scarz wrote:I'm kind of late to the party and I apologize if this has already been answered but who or what was Oolong and Roshi ogling (and whistling) at?

How long did the Super Saiyan God lasted? Also, could Goku power down to base & power up again into SSG before it went away?
BTW, how is the plot synopsis going?

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Goku gets exhausted and Birusu stops the fight. Birusu says he wants Goku to say "I give up" and he says so. They talk for a while, then go back to the ground. Birusu tries to destroy the earth, but he blasts only a small rock and says he's already run out of power.UpFromTheSkies wrote:What happens after this? Maybe he lied and stopped destroying the earth.
There's no explanation on it.Raykugen wrote:Kei, there is not explanation about why Gokuh can breath on the space?
