In that case, I highly doubt they will touch the dub at all in these new sets.

I hope they don't touch it. I like their dub.

I do too. It's definitely FUNimation's best attempt at a Dragon Ball series dub.
(My Hank Hill avatar is probably the best drawing of him ever, it looks 100% identical to him in every way possible, and his house is there too!)

It's definitely one of their better efforts when I comes to the DB franchise, but there's still plenty of dialogue changes I would like to see redone for the new sets:

- Oolong's wish of course, being one of the most obvious.
- Narrator and Muten Roshi talking over all of the insert songs or flashbacks.
- Insert songs restored and intact, but given the situation with the DBZ sets, probably not happening.
- General Blue's "little brother." I can definitely why they did this, so this one will probably stay the same.
- During the 23rd Budokai, Kuririn telling Goku that if he gets married "his life is over." I thought Kuririn wanted to get married, this dub line just seems so out of character.
- Kami (as Shen) letting Yamcha know that he "not from this planet, I'm a visitor", and Goku's subsequent reaction: "He's an alien!" It creates a continuity error in DBZ, when Kami truly discovers that he is an alien (for some reason, this is the one that bugs me the most.)
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

And I wish they would stop calling Shen "Hero". I mean, cmon!

I've always disliked that last one. It's even worse than Bardock being a brilliant scientist-- at least with that one, there's no harm done to the series' continuity, whereas "I'm a visitor" in DB makes Kami look like he had a visit from the MiB sometime before Z when he's all A-DUUURH I'M FROM *WHERE*?!

Actually, the MiB is the only way the dub makes sense in this instance. :D

Oh my god, I totally forgot about Oolong's "comforted pair of underwear". Seriously, why did they keep him all perverted but change that one thing?

Giving a Pervert what he wants is wrong and un-American! It's ok if he just wants some comfy undies though.

I'm actually kind of glad they toned Dragon Ball down a tad... because we all know what happens when they don't...(protip: threads get locked)

(I can't stress this enough, but my Hank Hill avatar is the best one I have ever had the pleasure of displaying on the interwebz to represent myself.)

Okay, sorry to jump back a topic in this thread, but I have some news.

This is a response I got from the FUNimation twitter account when I had asked them about the aspect ration of the Dragon Ball Season One set:
funimation@haseowolf Dragon Ball Season Set releases will be 4:3, + have Eng and Jap lang. options, and original Jap. musical score in 5.1 Surround.
More confirmation can't hurt, right? We never really can know until its in our own hands, but this, the trailer in 4:3, the convention panel specs...just that one quote from a guy who doesn't know what his job is all about seems to be the only contrary. Anywho, if anyone thinks that I fabricated it, my twitter account is in my signature.

Anyways, continue!!!

Or you could just link to their tweet.

I don't think any additional "confirmation" is necessary, at this point, really...

Only thing we need now is an advance copy.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Ignoring that "Jap" is a racial slur... Didn't the Original version of the Dub use The Japanese Music? Isn't Dragon Ball the only series where they ALREADY DID that?
Why would that be new information?

The dub having an available 5.1 track would be new, since it was just plain ol' stereo on the original releases.

"Jap" is a racial slur when spoken, but it's a proper and common abbreviation just like "Eng." Moreover, it's referring to the language, not the people.

I personally think that "Jap" is a racist, offensive term. I (think) it was used in WWII, where the US battled Japan. They called the Japanese "Japs" because, at the time, they were our enemies. That was quite a long time ago. The US won. Why can't anyone get the hell over it? I have never used "Jap", and I am never going to ever.
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

A bunch of white males arguing over whether or not the term "Jap." is offensive to them.

I love it. Never change, otaku of the world, never change.

To everyone else with any scrap of sense: "Jap." is a valid abbreviation in such an informal, brief update such as a Twitter blurb.

On topic: Now that two of the three DB series have been (or soon will be) released in the 4:3 format as a season set, I think there is a legitimate enough reason to believe we will see another re-release of DBZ in traditional format sometime in the near future.
