You can argue the original insulted it too
I have no idea what you mean by this. What does the existence of the Serpentine Road and Kaio's Planet have to do with the dub term "another dimension"? How did the original insult your intelligence?

Kaio's planet= not earth
Snake Way= not earth
Not earth= another dimension
I'm saying the dub term is not a made up thing.

Not earth=Namek

Namek does not equal another dimension.

So, no, it does not follow that anything not earth is "another dimension." Yes, I do kinda see what you're getting at, but, from where I'm standing, it seems incredibly forced. I'll even go so far as to say I see where "another dimension" can fit as a descriptor for places in the next world. It's another realm, another plane of existence, etc. But you seem to be taking that a really weird extreme, seemingly implying that such places cannot exist without that specific descriptor. Serpentine Road and Kaio's Planet existed long before "another dimension" was a thing, and they've since continued long after "another dimension" ceased to be a thing. So to conflate the two concepts to the point that you're saying that the Serpentine Road and Kaio's Planet are "not dub creations" as part of your argument is, in my opinion, making a huuuuuuuuge leap to support your point.

Perhaps more to the point, while the words "another dimension," out of context are not an inaccurate descriptor, it's the way they are used in-context, as something used to obscure rather than clarify, that raised the ire of fandom of the '90s. I mean, let's just compare it to the way FUNimation handles it now. "Other World" has become their official translation of "ano yo" and has been for years. So that's what they use to refer to the next life. However, when a character is "sent" there, they don't write it to say that, "Oh, Goku has been Other Worlded." No. They say that Goku has died, and Other World is where he has gone, just like in the original. So if we try to look at "another dimension" as an equivalency we'll see that "another dimension" is not used in the same way.

I don't particularly care if "the next/another dimension" is a technically correct term. It's an asinine, insulting piece of censorship, and an utterly idiotic attempt at trying to hide the fact that people, you know, die.

There were so many alternatives they could have used. People have already mentioned "otherworld," "afterlife," etc. All of which sound less stupid than "Nappa attacked, and he sent Piccolo to the NEXT DIMENSION(tm)." They could have done what Saban did with Spider-Man, and used "destroyed" to an annoying extent, and that would have been more sensible.

There is no valid excuse for the Next Dimension bullshit. Whoever came up with it was either drunk, or just joking around, and some executive took him seriously for some reason, probably because he was also drunk.

"Goku's trapped in another dimension." You cannot seriously defend this crap.

I've seen that video, the only really bad line is Nappa saying they sent Arlia to another dimension because...Its a planet. There are a few other weird phrases too
I realize the intention which was censorship and its not handled the same as"other world" but its not like the concept is completely alien
And i did not say those places could not exist without that term.
See the links i posted in the DBZ Uncensored thread, a good amount of people seemed to believe it actually happened even years after Ocean left. one of those stories was from 2014!

This one, when I engaged in conversation with an individual in the youtube comment section: "Kikuchi's score fits Dragon Ball but doesn't fit Dragon Ball Z". This is ridiculous and a poor attempt of justifying one's preference of the Faulconer score.

When people get mad about FUNimation translating certain Japanese things that wouldn't really make sense in America.

Whenever someone tries to pass off DBZ as a "dark, gritty, realistic" series. Its none of those things, least of all realistic and its just a few among many words the Internet's ruined by just using it without a shred of thought to what it actually means.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

The series uncut was never as violent as people make out to be. The series is rated TV PG when watching it uncut. The orange bricks, Kai home video releases, the TV airings of Ultimate Uncut and Kai Uncut where TV PG. If it would be TV-14 or TV-MA if it was violent as some fans make out to be.

It probably stems from a mentality of "Oh man! This show I watched as a kid has people losing arms and getting bloody holes blown in their chests! So dark and gritty!" more so than anything else. As you said, the series itself is at its goriest PG-13 level stuff.

I think people just don't want to admit that they are watching a series made for kids in elementary and middle school. Once you reach 13 or 14, you are past the main target audience. I don't want Dragon Ball to be like the Power Rangers fan film with loads of blood, gore, swearing and sex just to be cool and edgy. Some fans just want to see stuff like Gohan having sex with Videl and Goku killing his enemies Mortal Kombat style with loads of guts and gore.

Oh man I remember when I used to say that. That has to be the dumbest thing I've said relating to Dragon Ball, though it was about Cha-la-head-cha-la.

(Sorry for double posting) Here's one I can't stand in 2015 people are still saying Kayo-ken and Kmayhamay, both of these are wrong and have basically been abolished by Funi.

Yeah see this one I can kinda excuse...when you get so used to saying stuff in certain ways, it gets very ingrained into your mind. I had a terrible habit of going "Yeah...no." as a response to most things, even when it didn't fit and it literally took my brother slapping the back of my head every time I said that to get the habit to go away. Once something gets ingrained into your lexicon, it's not easy to remove. Hell, I still catch myself saying Tienshinhan some times instead of Tenshinhan.

Something that's been bugging me these days has been the 'true fan' and 'lesser fan' crud. I've been accused of being a lesser fan for not agreeing with someone on their personal power level charts or something ingrained into the hive mind of the fandom. The whole time the guy is all "See if you were a real, true fan like me you'd..." and all that jazz. That shit makes me maaaaaad.
Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

Oh yeah I hate "true fan" because even if you causal like something you're still a fan and some people might be bigger fans but it doesn't make causal fans less of a fan.
