I went ahead and picked up some Speedy Dub VCD's; a couple of movies and I believe the Arrival VCD contains the Ocean Dub.
I just love the blurb on the back, it's like a movie mashup.

VCDs of the 'Speedy' release of certain media. The Arrival VCD contains episodes 1 and 2 of the Saban/Ocean dub. The Legend of Shenron VCD contains Funimations first dubbing of DB Movie 1. Finally the Super Saiya People, Goku VCD contains the Speedy Dub (Filipino English dub) of DBZ Movie 4.THEGOKU wrote:What exactly are those?
I managed to win it off Yahoo Auctions for about $150 USD. Seemed like a good price compared to what it usually goes for, and it was always one of my holy grail items anyways, so I was willing to pay upoldboy88 wrote:Absolutely nice find!fps_anth wrote:New pickup today, and it's a big one. Possibly my new favorite item in the collection:
What you see here is Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 51 from 1984. Indeed, released on November 20, 1984, it contains the debut of the Dragon Ball manga! Chapter 1, in all of its original glory! It's in great condition, too. I continue to be amazed by how well the Japanese take care of their belongings. The thing is basically a phone book from 1984 that sold for 170 yen. The page quality is so crappy that you're basically supposed to throw them out and buy the tankobon when it's released for your favorite series.
But luckily, a few copies were saved and now I own a piece of history!
The first page of Dragon Ball, ever! Fully colorized, it looks fantastic.
The other pages in this chapter are semi-colorized, using white and... orange? What a funny choice. As you can see by the title page, Goku's original outfit in Dragon Ball was blue. Maybe they saw these pages and figured he'd look better in orange some time down the road?
I look at how much Spider-Man #1 or Action Comics #1 go for these days and I hope I can one day sell it and buy a private jet with the money
just kidding, I think I love DB too much to let this one go!
May i ask you what you payed for this? Because, i see this Item occasionally on plattforms like eBay, but it goese between 200 and 400, never as an auction but as direct buy.
Can somebody please explain what is in this and this and especially this?Sin wrote:The Arrival VCD contains episodes 1 and 2 of the Saban/Ocean dub. Odd. I thought Speedy dubbed some of the episodes. I pointed out that last VCD in particular because it appears to mention an episode skipped in Saban's run (Gohan and the robot). Are you saying its false advertising?clutchins wrote:More Ocean dub episodes.Danfun64 wrote:Can somebody please explain what is in this and this and especially this?Sin wrote:The Arrival VCD contains episodes 1 and 2 of the Saban/Ocean dub. Wow. That's a stellar pick-up. I'd love to own a copy of that someday, though I imagine that took some hunting.fps_anth wrote:New pickup today, and it's a big one. Possibly my new favorite item in the collection:
