Is anybody else looking forward to the Blu-Ray?

It's fine and dandy that we've all judged Kai watching the HD option on Youtube, but is anybody curious as to what Kai will look like on a HDTV? Do you think your opinion of the show will change if the footage looks gorgeous and with the sound in Dolby Digital?

I am.

But I wont be able to buy it for a while, there's no digital TV signals here yet (next year hopefully) and Blu ray players are expenisve, as well as the discs themselves so I haven't bought an HDTV yet, even though my current TV is hours away from dieing :?

I've seen it on an HDTV. Although there was undoubtedly some video compression, it still looks good. Especially the opening. I'm ever so slightly anticipating the blu-ray because it'll be 4:3.

See, I'd actually like it in 16:9. I'm getting the Dragon Box for 4:3! If it was in widescreen, it'd be a way for Dragonball to look nice on my HDTV, filling the whole thing (withouth need for yucky stretching).

Uh... your HDTV doesn't have a zoom/crop/resize feature?

Yes! But it doesn't have a "crop each scene as it was cropped when Dragonball Kai aired" feature. :P

I wish the Blu-rays would at least give an option. Maybe it's a ploy to get people to spend extra money on picking up the 16:9 DVD's just for the widescreen...

My blu ray player only allows me to stretch 4:3 into a 16:9, makinf everything dissoriented, so I will not be be buying these, unless Funi releases them in 16:9 bluray.....

I pre-ordered the first three Blu-ray episodes and I'm definitely looking forward to it. But my order will be shipped a month after it has been released because I ordered some other stuff along with it. So I’m actually depending on the board to give a proper review when it’s out.

Maybe once I've picked up all of the FUNimation Dragonboxes I might be tempted by the inevitable US release, but only because I have difficulty walking past Dragonball merchandise I do not own.

Even Dragon Ball Evolution? Just kidding of course. Anyways I'm interested in the Blu-Ray discs mostly because a DBZ with reduced filler is ideal for getting other people into Dragon Ball. That and it's different enough to warrant collecting. I guess...
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

I'm waiting until I know for sure whether it's going to be region locked. Lots of Blu-Ray discs are region free, though, so I live in hope...

I've got one. Blu-Ray movies are still separated by region codes on the PS3. :(

I could've sworn that I replied to this.

So, yeah, I've already pre-ordered the first disc and the first box.

Do you think there's a possibility of 4:3 versions of the intros and outros?

Considering "Dragon Soul" is used in the commercials for the blu-ray (cropped differently), I would guess those are in 4:3.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I'm gonna do one of my infamous dissections on it, I'm just waiting for it in the mail. It'll be a DVD\Blue Ray double dissection!
