Substitute for a mod chip?

Post by Sun_Wukong » Sun Nov 28, 2004 4:49 pm

I dont know if this is exactly the right forum for this. I've heard there are Swap Magic Boot Disks that work just as well as a Mod Chip. Anyone know anything about them?

For what system?

PS2? You're probably gonna be shit outta luck unless you actually go inside the system and do some soldering. That other crap just doesn't work. Then again, I have absolutely no experience, other than what I've read on the Internet. And we know how good the Internet is for information.

Gamecube? Boot disc :P. Easy as pie.

Xbox? No idea. Don't own, don't want, don't care ^^.

Yes, i know there are swap magic discs for PS2... haven't seen one in quite some time [online]. For the love of GOD don't open up your PS2! I seriously F'ed mine up trying to mod it for Kingdom Hearts Final Mix...

If you're looking to play the import Budokai games, just go with the Cubester! look up the "Free Loader". Like EX said, "easy as pie".

Well...you could always buy an actual Japanese PS2. LikSang has a few for 200 bucks, it seems. You always take a big risk with MOD chips. *flashes back to the Sega Saturn incident of 2003**shudders*

There is a device called the "Magic Card" that you could use for older model PS2's if you want to avoid the messy mod-chip installations.

However if you have one of the new thin model PS2's your pretty much out of luck.

Heh...don't underestimate the Saturn, man. For what it's worth, I've had nothing but good times with many import games for it.

I just remembered that there's some kind of custom case that some places are selling for the original PS2's that will let you perform an easier disc-swap trick. It's basically a flip-top lid case and a swap disc. Dunno if it works or not, though.

A friend of mine has what's called a "Mod Card" for his PS2. It looks like a flamboyant memory card, but it performs all of the same functions of a mod chip. The only downside is it takes up a memory card slot, so if you're using both slots for something, you're shit outta luck. I don't recall where he said he got his, but I'll ask next time I talk to him.

As for Saturns, yes, people are still buying them (Lik Sang still sells assloads of stuff here: http://www.lik-sang.com/list.php?nav=over&category=178& ). I really want to get one, but once again, I'm too damn broke -_-
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

I just remembered there is also a device that doesn't screw your guarantee, It's a thing that goes on your PS2's USB port...

That's what i use to play with my "imported" games. You don't have to open you console, you just have to take out the protection in front of the DVD player (with the little Playstation logo on it). It works very well.

All this sounds interesting. Any for the PAL? A chance to play Kinnikuman Generations/ Galactic Wrestling, since it never came out here. Bet it's because of France.

Sun Wukong, i can't help you because i bought it from a French online store so i don't know about where to buy it in the States.

As for Kinnikuman Generations Frobman, that's a possibility although i don't think Broken Jr. has the nazi symbol on him in the game (i haven't been to the AKIA forums in a while  ). But since Ultimate Muscle wasn't translated into French, i don't know why they would have sold the game in France.

You can translate the site with Google or Alta Vista, or will that not do?

So is the game in France or what?

To my knowledge, Fuujin, there are swap discs for both the Playstation, and the Playstation 2.

I'm pretty sure if you get the pack, it comes with a cd for Ps1 games and a dvd for Ps2 games. Not positive though

- Fuujin:
There is a device I've found, that became available recently called "Breaker Pro", it works on PS2's to play PS1 games. If you would like the link, I could PM it to you, as I am not entirely certain of Daizex's standpoint on the subject, or linking to said devices, and I'd rather not get myself in trouble for breaking a rule.
