So, today I received a link from a girl who complained to me that she wasn't able to see the certain scene of the latest DragonBall special on Youtube because she was being blocked. As far as I know, the special wasn't licensed anywhere yet so I decided to check it out and fair enough, it said the video had been blocked because it was property of "ABGroup" and therefor blocked in our country.
So, that name wasn't exactly familiar to me, so I googled it;
"The AB Groupe is a French business group in the field of broadcasting."
Okay cool, so it's licensed in France! But I don't live there, so I searched some more and I read this...
"The AB Group was responsible for the dubbing of the movies in 2003 for UK audiences. The dub is notorious among fans for the script and the changing of character's names (for example Piccolo is known as Big Green)."
......Can someone please tell me that this isn't happening?! Thanks!!

Re: DB OVA " Yo! Goku Returns" licensed in Europe?
If anything they'll release it in other languages. I doubt they'll do their own dub...
Re: DB OVA " Yo! Goku Returns" licensed in Europe?
So you're saying they will probably dub it in French only? But that would make it a release for France only, why block content for the Netherlands where we don't get French releases?SonGokuGT wrote:If anything they'll release it in other languages. I doubt they'll do their own dub...

Are you sure it's not AB just flagging DBZ videos willy-nilly because they had/have the license for the show? They may not necessarily have the Jump special.

Re: DB OVA " Yo! Goku Returns" licensed in Europe?
Could be... But I haven't seen this kind of block before with any other DBZ video.
(As in, from ABGroup. I did receive blocks from major companies as Toei and Funimation)

This is what I believe to be happening. AB does this to a lot of Dragon Ball that's uploaded to youtube. Some of which I believe they don't even hold rights to. Here's what's in the info of all the videos they block.B wrote:Are you sure it's not AB just flagging DBZ videos willy-nilly because they had/have the license for the show? Re: DB OVA " Yo! Goku Returns" licensed in Europe?
They would do the French and sublicense the special to other countries. I think that's how they've done it in the past if I'm not mistaken...Bura wrote:So you're saying they will probably dub it in French only? I just tried to watch the Korean DBZ intro and it was also blocked by AB Groupe. So yeah, as usual, they have no fucking clue what they're doing whatsoever.

I was trying to watch some latino DBZ yesterday to get a sample of the voices and kept getting a "not available for your region, copyright claim by Funimation" message on a lot of the episodic uploads.

I think I'd be vaguely interested to hear what a "Big Green" dub of the Jump Special would sound like. I mean, I'd much rather have an accurate dub than a "Big Green" one, but the idea still amuses me if only because I'd like to see if they'd come up with anything to rival "Let that child alone.".

Ah, I'm so relieved now. Thanks everyone. I'll change the topic title to "ABGroup" to avoid any further confusion. XD

Re: ABGroup
Forget the AB Groupe, I want to see another Creative Product Corp dub, with vaguely Hispanic-sounding Gohan.

Re: ABGroup
Talking about the AB group, they're losing rights to all the Dragonball series next year, and this is the reason they push the db z gt dvd boxes so much.

Re: ABGroup
Really? Has another company expressed their interest in licensing the series in France?sangofe wrote:Talking about the AB group, they're losing rights to all the Dragonball series next year, and this is the reason they push the db z gt dvd boxes so much.

Re: ABGroup
Does this mean they'll lose the rights in the UK too? Meaning that Revelation Films/MVM-Films/Manga Entertainment can finally do a UK release of the series?

I only know of France for now, but I have to dig deeper into this first. The Time Traveller wrote:Does this mean they'll lose the rights in the UK too? Meaning that Revelation Films/MVM-Films/Manga Entertainment can finally do a UK release of the series?
Re: ABGroup
I sure hope the Dutch rights end up in the hands of someone who, uh... actually distributes stuff.

Yeah, that will be it, Funimation blocked some of my DB themes on youtube in some countries altough they were from Brazil, Portugal and Spain.B wrote:Are you sure it's not AB just flagging DBZ videos willy-nilly because they had/have the license for the show?
