Uh, I meant he didn't feel any Ki from the robot, and therefore knew it wasn't alive. All on instinctive level, of course.

I agree with what Dai said, but with regard to the whole "part of being a Saiayn" theory may I point out that Nappa, Radditz, Bardock and Vegeta all had to use the Scotor to detect an opponent and judge their power level. Based on this, I'd say that none of the Saiyan race knew how to sense ki. Goku was the first and Vegeta picked it up after he want to Earth.

Well, pehaps they COULD sense ki, just not terribly accurately. Freeza made Scouters standard issue, so rather than trying to learn to sense ki by themselves better they just came to rely on Scouters since that made things easier.
