Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
What happened to my previous post? Must've been deleted because I posted the full episode.
Anyway, while watching the part where Piccolo powers up I noticed they used 'The Braveheart Challenges the Strong'. Good to see they're still using that piece, despite the fact that it's overused I really enjoy hearing it.
EDIT: It seems they're using a lot of old themes this episode. I'm unsure how much they've been using the old themes this arc as I haven't seen a new Kai ep since episode 55 but by the lack of complaining I'm guessing they hardly ever use them now.
They also got rid of the army filler!

Ah yeah, right. Great work, I wasn't completely sure if they'd be able to properly cut around it or not.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote: They also got rid of the army filler!
The episode covered a total of 33.5 pages, starting 3 pages into chapter 361 and ending 7.7 pages into 363.

Oh, really? How did they manage to cut that part out? It seems like that would come out really awkward looking

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I love the dialouge exchange between Piccolo and Cell. It's like Furukawa and Wakamoto are trying to outdue each other to see who has the more awesome voice.
A Dragon Ball/Urusei Yatsura crossover would be awesome.
Having Toshio Furukawa balance between Piccolo and Ataru would be hilarious.

Oh wow Norio was chewing the scenery so bad there wont be much of it left by next episode.
I love it though, Dragon Ball is a show where over acting is a bonus.

Very nice, I love how they are doing subtle variations on the original opening.CashmanX wrote:Here's the new opening.

Cell sounded like a generic villain this time, although I would bet that it was on purpose.

Wow, I thought I suffered from amnesia or something. I knew something was off when I watched the episode and Wakamoto's performance.
I was so eager to hear the good, old Cell doing the KameHameHa, but... that wasn't too bad either.
Like others said it's nice that he is bringing something new to his performance. However, I personally think it's a bit overboard, especially the screechy parts.
Looking forward to next week as usual.

About a year ago Kei made a fan version of this scene's score...turns out he got it right.

^_^; I wonder why they just didn't go for a full picture like SSJ Goku or 100% Freeza.

Especially since Cell, Particularly in his perfect form, is a generic villain, IMO.Son Wukong wrote:Cell sounded like a generic villain this time, although I would bet that it was on purpose.
Wakamoto surprised me this episode, but not in a bad way, to me this new take makes the most interesting form of Cell even more so. He can change up the voice for the second form too if he wishes, as long as he matches the delivery and intensity for the perfect form. Because if not for Wakamoto, Perfect Cell would be a complete throw away character, so I hope the rage will be there in full force.
Back to this episode, Wakamoto's vocal inflections were all over the place, making Cell seem very chaotic. And while there were no "beughhh" type sounds (not yet at least), there were tons of other creepy ass sounds he made, I particularly enjoyed how he lingered at the end of sentences. I really loved every time his voice got monster like and guttural.
Pacing once again was just right, making for an exciting episode, I was happy to see that military bullshit cut out. The music wasn't as solidly used as the last episode, but it fit fine none the less. But then I don't remember the Z version of this section being anything too special either, so it's apples and oranges musically.

His portrayal of Cell in KAI reminds me of Cell's First Form in the FUNi dub. Very different from his Cell from Z

Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
I decided to give this episode a watch after hearing reactions to Wakamoto's new voice.
Honestly, this may be one of the few Japanese voices I actually enjoy more in Kai. It may actually be even creepier than his already-creepy Z voice, just in a more erratic and disturbing direction. And if he isn't over-the-top creepy, Cell is extremely generic, so it's a plus.
