Dameon Clarke vs Dale Wilson

Post by Garlic » Sun Nov 21, 2010 4:34 pm

Hello. I would like to know what voice for Cell was the best in terms of voice acting and character. To me Dameon Clarke will always be Cell. Not to say that Dale Wilson was bad; it was just that sometimes his performance and the overall voice was very odd and wooden. So who do you think was better :?:

Dameon Clarke = "With his face...in the mud!"
Dale Wilson = Opera blast

Yeah, I'm going to have to choose Mr. Clarke on this one.

Travis Willingham. Dead-on impersonation of Clarke, but with some honest acting chops.

Kenny Green in my heart.

You know what's strange? In Burst Limit, I though that Cell was being played by someone doing a so-so Clarke imitation while in Raging Blast, they managed to get Clarke himself. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was the other way around. Willingham really does sound exactly like Clarke in his role and is just as good.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

Wait, what? That was Clarke?!

The voice that came out of Cell was so unlike what I was used to that I assumed it was in fact an impostor. If that really was Clarke, then somehow he's gotten worse. His work on the actual dub was much better than whatever the hell that was in Raging Blast. o.o

Dale Wilson has a fine voice for a villain, but that villain isn't Cell.

Clarke's has a bit more presence and grandness. Cell should sound like this guy who believes he is absolute perfection.

I actually really like Clarke in the role, although it's somewhat limited to very specific examples. There are times when he sounds as though he has a real handle on the character's madness, and then there's other times when it's as though he's completely missed the point.

Generally enjoyable, though, although his early stuff was a bit stiff.

Uh, did you read the entirety of my post? I said that it was the other way around, in that Burst Limit was Clarke, while RB was an imitation, despite what I originally thought.

I felt Willingham was a bit off in RB2, which is the only current-gen DBZ game I've played, so I dunno about the other ones.

As far as the Z dub actors go, though, Dameon Clarke is definitely superior. Dale Wilson sounds like the G-Man from Half-Life having a job as a news anchor.

Clarke had very stiff delivery at first for Perfect form Cell.
Remember? "He should feel lucky, He's the first to be touched by my perfect Bo-dy." which is probably the only instance where Dale Wilson's Cell voice was better. Clarke's Cell improved & developed during the fight with Super Trunks and from that point on, His Cell voice was better than Wilson's.

I think Dameon Clarke much better but don't get me wrong I grew up on watching ocean dub when it was aired on toonami in united kingdom and watched Android Saga to end of Kid Boo Saga in ocean dub.

Dale Wilson's voice for Perfect Cell sounded like a game show host and as for Dameon Clarke's Perfect Cell souned more threatening which is the right voice for playing Cell. So the results are in and the winner is Dameon Clarke for outstunding voice for Cell from Dragonball Z funimation dub.

I've only seen clips of Wilson's Cell. Its decent, but doesn't fit the character entirely well.

Clarke's voice suits the character very well. His acting was a little inconsistent at first when he became Perfect. However, he gradually improved during the Super Vegeta and Trunks fights.

I'm wondering how Willingham will do in Kai.

You kind of answered my question with this comment, but was Willingham confirmed as Cell for Kai?

I'm not a big fan of Clarke or Wilson, but I would have to say I like Wilson's Cell a little more. My favorite is Willingham's Cell.

I'd choose Wilson since almost everything I've heard of Clarke's Cell sounds rather... weird. Like he had to ANNOUNCE everything. Wilson was a like that too, but Clarke's really bombastic voice really overdid it. I also hated Clarke's Semi-Perfect/Form 2 voice; I don't recall Wilson doing any modification to his voice other than making it a lower pitch than his Imperfect/Form 1 voice.

I liked Wilson's rather strange verbal tics, like the gargling yell and the elongating of certain syllables. I'll admit I remember it as probably being better than it was (listening back on some clips I can see parts where his line-reading is pretty bad)... But neither Cell actor was perfect, so between the two I'd still go with Wilson.

It'd be cool to hear Dale Wilson in another villainous role, but unfortunately I haven't found one. He seems to only play a lot of incidental characters in the shows I know he does voices in.

He's the only Cell voice actor funimation has so he will be doing Cells voice in Dragonball Z Kai.

Clarke no contest for me, I've always been fond if his Cell voice.

Willingham does a good impression of Clarke, but it's just that - an impression. I have Raging Blast, and at first in the story mode to me it really sounded like Clarke stopped giving a shit anymore. But when I learned it was a different voice actor it made a lot more sense, basically to me Willingham sounds like Clarke on a bad day.

I know a lot of people think that Willingham does a fantastic impression of Clarke and they can't differentiate them very well, but for me as a kid I had an obsession with the Cell Saga and I loved it, and Clarke's Cell was my favourite by far, so it became ingrated into my mind.

Willingham just sounds too gruff for my liking, and it's really a shame that Clarke won't be returning.

On the subject of Wilson I can't stand his Cell, he elongates his words too much and I feel like it really doesn't suit Cell

I can't stand the Funi Cell voice, definitely Dale Wilson.
