General Discussion for Dragon Ball Kai episode 89. Originally broadcast 16 January 2011.

This was the best episode of the series. Masunaga and Shimanuki's styles blend quite well so the shift wasn't very jarring. The animation is probably the best in the series, too. The actors were also in top form, too. I'm glad to see last week wasn't a fluke for Wakamoto.

Guess I'll start posting my entire reviews here too.

This week on Dragon Ball Kai...!! Son Gokû v. Cell takes it to the next level. The arena is destroyed...and then Cell's upper-half is destroyed!! Then Cell pops back up and the two start kicking the ever-loving Hell out of each other. The episode ends with Gokû blasting Cell. How will he get out of that great pinch?!

Dragon Ball covered: chapter #400 through 3 pages into #402.
Dragon Ball Z covered: episode #179 through the beginning of Part B of #180.

This was, without a doubt, the best episode in Dragon Ball Kai. Great animation and great acting from all of the actors. Next week will have animation from an Uchiyama episode again. >_<

Always loved the fight but i felt all the teleporting and fast fighting dragged on a bit. Much better in Kai. And no "Formidable warrior" song IIRC. Thought the ep would end with Goku giving up but oh well. Gohan vs Cell begins soon.

Assuming episode #90 covers the rest of #180 and all of #181 while #91 covers all of #182-183, then #184 would be in #92.

Well, considering the episode after next week's is called "Ikare Gohan! Nemureru Chikara wo Hodoki", or "Get Angry, Gohan! Unleash Your Power Lain to Rest", it's highly implied that that episode will be the one where Gohan lets loose. I'd be very surprised if the actual end of that episode isn't Gohan's transformation (in other words, the Spirit vs Spirit scene, sans the song of course).

That said, maybe they'll do it with the transformation happening at the ad break, and then skip into the aftermath smoke when Gohan's fully transformed (skipping the recap transformation from Z's following episode).

Of course, the best answer would be the best of both worlds. Have the episode "Get Angry, Gohan! Unleash Your Power Lain to Rest" end with the actual transformation, complete with the finishing touch of Gohan's tears flying away in the wind and Gohan getting that look of "I'm ready... Are you?!", and then start the next episode, after the recap of the episode before and the opening with the smoke of Gohan's transformation clearing away, and straight into killing off the Cell Juniors, bypassing the redo of the transformation.

I read the title as being a quote from Gokû, who does tell the others about his plan in #181. I really don't think--with a total of ninety-eight episodes--they would skip to #184 so quickly.

Did anybody else think the BGM that played while Dende/God looked down on Earth was somewhat..Faulconer-ish?
Fantastic episode overall, loved those echo effects they used when heavy hits were landed. The animation was just as good as I remember it being.
Best Kai episode yet, but that's 'cause it's based on (in my opinion) one of the best Z episodes.
Nozawa was really on form this time, Wakamoto also.

They didn't fix the coloring error on Piccolo's arm, but good episode, it kinda felt fast paced.

To be honest, I think it works better when Goku quits at the end of the episode. It's a great cliffhanger.

I mean to say that how are you guys able to watch new episodes of Kai without living in Japan or something like that? (I think it was mentioned a while ago on some other thread, but I forgot what thread it was, I believed it had something to do with a live-streaming website or something?)

You can use KeyHole or VLC (KeyHole has shitty quality, though). But I usually just wait until the fansub version to come out, since I don't really understand Japanese.

Keyhole TV. It's a streaming program, not a website. The quality of the stream isn't always the greatest, but the program is reliable, accessible, free and legal. Just download it and select "Fuji TV" from the list of channels when Kai is on to watch it live.

I'll try to check out VLC sometime soon, I'm on a shitty computer right now so until I get my laptop back, I'll use Keyhole TV for now. But anyways, thanks guys!

Watch episode 64 of "Kai". Chigusa Yokoyama's and Tomoko Yoshida's arts were amazing and not different at all!
