"Fansub Dialogue" - Rumor Guide
Inspired by this thread, I'm working on a quick little new page for the "Rumor Guide" called "Fansub Dialogue."
What we'll compare are some of the most notorious fansub "translations" (be they filled with curses or simply way off, but well known) with Steve's translation and Julian's own translation. We won't let Julian look at Steve's translation until he does his own, so there won't be any bias. It'll be a good way to get some perspective on what's being said from a wide range of different angles. And, of course, we'll provide the original Japanese dialogue (both romanized-and-written and in MP3 downloadable format).
So far, here's what I've got:
DBZ Episode 96: Goku's "kusoyaro" to Freeza
DBZ Episode 120: Trunks' comment about coming back to Earth in a "tin-can"
DBZ Episode 130: Vegeta's "candy-ass faggot" line
DBZ Movie 7: Vegeta's "kusoyaro" to little Jinzoningen
DBZ Movie 12: Gogeta's "I am neither Goku nor Vegeta..."
DBZ Movie 13: Vegeta's fuck-fuckity-fuck
If you can think of any other great examples, be they from Anime Labs "scripts" or not, please let me know. However, keep in mind that this is *not* a thread to discuss what you think of the translations, what you think they should be, blah blah blah. I'm asking only for suggestions, and not conversation about them. Thanks!

For that matter... and I forget which episode... but it's something like:
"I am Bulma! Hear me roar!"

All right, here we go:
http://www.daizex.com/guides/rumors/fan ... ogue.shtml
I think this is a pretty good start. I'll definitely add more as they come and we discuss them, but a few things to start off with is really nice. I've even got MP3 samples of the dialogue for people to listen to, on their own .
Proof-reading, thoughts, suggestions, whatever. I'll want more examples in the near-future, but for now, this is what it'll go live with.

Well, I know they all work, because I confirmed them on the site, myself. Are you right-clicking and doing "Save As," or are you just trying to stream them off the server? Please do not do the latter .Mizugi wrote:I still can't get any of the mp3s to work.

Ah, thanks. Part of the trouble is that I've never actually seen this particular movie, so it's a bit difficult for me to imagine what's taking place. That, and my listening skills still aren't perfect.Daimao wrote:Julian, you might want to try listening again to the Vegeta clip from Movie 13, and picture him saying "近づきすぎて火傷(やけど)するんじゃねぇぞぉ!"
So... anybody wanna provide me with a mental picture / video clip?

Well, if it's any consolation, I had to Google the phrase in Japanese to check it myself. Loud background noise is not your friend in this business.SaiyaJedi wrote: Ah, thanks. And I really like the way you've re-worked your translation. You do me proud.
